Pizazz's Ravenloft and Beyond

Meepo pulls out a healing potion and hands it to Rat. he has Rat fly over and pour the potion into Lionel's mouth.

Seeing Lionel go down and the tree move on to Olin, Mordekai frantically continues to cast Eldritch Blast at the tree.

Attack: 16 + 3 Bless. Damage: 9 plus 2 Hex.

Edit: another 7 + 3 damage from the crit. 

Lionel, you blink your eyes open. An undead flying cat is standing, two paws on your chest, having dumped an uncorked bottle of red sparkling liquid in your mouth. You feel what could be broken bones in your chest, you draw a ragged breath, the sky above you a shade lighter than it seemed a short while ago.  You push yourself up, wincing in pain to see Olin entangled by the thing as its massive wooden maw gnashing into his body, the roots squeezing him with force.  A blast from Mordekai blows off a huge chunk of the spongy wooden body.  Though your body feels fragile, your sense of duty is like a pillar of stone at your center. 

Olin, Lionel, take your actions. 

Potion was right in time, even if from an undead cat, young paladin was grateful for it. Then he stood up and limped back to the fight. It was not very wise, but Lionel never claimed to be the wisest person anyway.

Lionel pushes his battered body back up, and fearlessly rushes back into battle near Olin, slashing the tree with his blade which weakly bounces off a knot in the things side. 

Con save for bless from the bite attack: 6 + 4 (Pass, barely!)

Con save for damage at the start of turn: 24 + 3 (Pass, with flying colors!)

"Silvanus save us!" Olin shouts, lofting his shield bearing the Oak Leaf of his patron. A wave of divine energy blasts out from him and over the tree. Then he mutters to himself, casting healing word for 5.

(Channel Divinity: Charm Animals and Plants, Wis save DC 14 or charmed by me.)

 If the charm seems to take hold, Olin begins climbing out of the tree's mouth and shouts "Do not harm the tree! If you hurt it it will attack us again. We have one minute to regroup."

Tree's wisdom save: 20

The tree sees the presented shield of Silavanus and seems to almost flinch from it, and then in rage continues to fight. 

With Olin in it's jaws it continues to try and chew on him. Bite Attack: 20 Damage: 22.  It fails to crush him as he struggles in the roots. 

 It swings a huge branch at Lionel who has returned to battle.  Attack: 24 Damage: 14.

Lionel is sent flying, the branch crushing into his side, the sound of breaking bones is heard as he flops away.   Another branch swings down at Olin.  

Attack: 25 Damage: 20. It swings another branch, and Olin is sent flying out of the grasp of the roots to land in a heap in the vineyard. 

The creature thuds slowly forward trying to get to Mordekai next.  

Mordekai / Meepo, your turns.   The tree looks grievously wounded, seeping blood from numerous wounds, but struggles forward to continue fighting. 

Lionel / Olin make death saving throws. 

Death svtr 1: 15

Mordekai sees Lionel and Olin down and is conflicted. Realising there's nothing he can do for them except keep drawing the creature's attention, Mordekai will send another Eldritch Blast at it, and will back away his full movement, to stay over 50ft away.

Attack: 22 Damage: 7 + 3 Hex

(Edit: Do you see those dice rolls? Adding a random d6 dice roll to trigger the above rolls to work, as I've found that works sometimes: 3 

meepo shoots again with a crossbow bolt...

To hit: 24

Damage: 10

He then too backs away his full movement.

Mordekai's blast takes a chunk out of the tree that wobbles, it's roots struggling to continue to propel it.  Meepo's crossbow bolt twirls off to the side. 

The creature puts all it's energy into rushing forward, it's roots pushing and branches swinging as it rushes all the way up to Mordekai.  It's now right at you Mordekai, but can't attack.

Mordekai, Meepo, take your turns.

Olin, Lionel, death saves please.

Mordekai will unleash one final blast before he gets attacked, but will stand his ground here. 

"Meepo! Can you do anything to help Olin and Lionel?" 

Attack: 25 Damage: 14 + 2 Hex. 

Crossbow attack...

Death save 2: 10

With a final blast of magic, and a crossbow bolt that goes directly into one of its eyes...the creature quivers and then breaks apart in a massive eruption of thick blood and ichor.  Mordekai is covered in red grime as chunks of spongy rotting wood spray all around. 

Mordekai and Meepo rush to the aid of their fallen comrades, pushing past string, sticks, and vines of the grape plants and running through the wide ruts of earth that form the rows of bushes. 

From the main house Davian and his son come running out with short swords, as well as Ismark, but they've missed the battle. Ismark looks around, shaking his head at the bloody exploded tree...."I'm sorry friends that I didn't wake seconds earlier....."  He moves to Lionel and Olin to help in any way he can.

The dawn is just arriving, the sky to the east is dimly lit while the west is still dark. The dark clouds cover the sky of this miserable land.  

(I Believe we have 2 healing potions left...)

Meepo pulls out the last two of their healing potions and holds them up.  "Need give?" he asks as he looks over the two downed friends.

Meepo sees his two friends appear to be dying, and giving the potions seems to be the only options.  They give one to Lionel, and then Olin.  The magical healing elixir flows into their bodies, snapping bones into place and repairing damaged organs as the two of them sputter into consciousness.

"Two times in raw is too much," Lionel raised from the ground and helped Olin to his feet. "You know, my sword master used to say "there are fearless adventurers and there are old adventurers. Old fearless adventurers do not exist".  I should remember it more often." He slowly moved to the house. "Would you mind if we enjoy your hospitality for a little longer? A brief rest before the journey would really help right now."
