Talon will get closer if needed, but if he's close enough, he'll speak from the tree.

"Hello, friends! I hope your day is better than mine. Can you spare a few moments? I am lost."

Three of the members of the crew swing crossbows in your general direction, peering through the vegetation to try to spot the source of the voice...

Initiative: 10

((Talon's initiative is +3, and he can go before any of them with a 23.))

Talon raises his hands and wings slowly, but is ready to dodge any incoming bolts.

"Quaak, no need for those! I'm alone and definitely not looking for a fight."

((I'll take a Persuasion too. You still are able to Dodge.))

Persuasion d20: 12

The one in the coat with the raven holds up a hand and the others with crossbows pause, looking to him.

"And who might you be, hiding up in the trees?"

"I am Talon and I'll stay up here until the crossbows are gone if you don't mind. I was in a shipwreck 2 or 3 days ago. Memory's spotty. I just flew over the river to ask you what is this place and where would I find a town. There don't seem to be many people around. Maybe that's why things got so tense when I spoke up?"

The fellow seems to be considering. 

"A shipwreck you say? How dreadful! Have you eaten?"

"Oh, I've eaten. Found some food crates in the wreck. How about a trade? You tell me to the nearest town, and I tell you where the wreck is."

"I'm not much in the habit of making deals with voices in trees, but I understand not wanting to surprise a bunch of itchyfingers." He casually cuffs one of the guys with a crossbow still trained in your direction, and they sheepishly lower them.

"I make it a policy not to do business on a dry throat. Would you join me for a bit of rum? If my boys make you nervous, I can send them off, but I'd like to hear more about this shipwreck you were in a few days ago, and we can discuss the nearest town and how to get there.", he sloshes a flask about.

((The others doing anything while you wait for Talon to return? Blue, I think you made and insight check I didn't address, but the crew remaining on the boat seem relatively relaxed, one of them is keeping watch, while the others nap out of view of the top of the bluff, as if they don't want to be seen lying about at their ease.))

Son will just be flipping through his book trying to freshen up any memories...

Does Talon have any reason to think he's lying about wanting to trade information? Insight d20:  10

If he's not lying: "I'll have a drink, why not? I didn't catch your name, mister...", he says as he hops down from the tree.

You don't get the sense he's lying about wanting information.

His eyes widen a bit as you appear more fully visible, and his men stir a bit.

"Take a walk boys, I'm sure Mr. Talon and I will have a pleasant conversation to our mutual benefit."

They head off, and he gestures to a nearby pair of rocks, having a seat himself and a pull of the rum before passing it to you.

"So, you were part of that ship that broke up to the south? You fly up here this morning?"

Talon throws his beak up to take a small drink, careful not to spill, and passes back the rum. He perches on the rock. He becomes annoyingly aware of the fact that his feathers need preening, but now was not the time.

"Yes. I saw your group from across the river. I was hoping you'd be friendly. All manner of beasts tried to eat me since waking up on that beach. I'm guessing with a big group such as yours, you don't have that problem. If I was looking for employment... what is it that you do? If that's something you'd like to share, of course." 

He starts preening, but he catches himself and stops, waiting wide-eyed for the answer.

Persuasion if needed (d20): 13 

"Here, friends are hard to find, but all the better to keep close when you do! All manner of beasts, you say? I suppose having access to the skies helps with avoiding them. Can you describe any of them? Would be good to know what else is out there, especially since flight is a luxury that none of my boys have!", he chuckles and takes a pull of rum, before offering it back.

"We did lose a few scouts early on... could use someone with your mobility. We are here to explore and hopefully find resources worth the effort. What brought you here?", he asks, looking you up and down.
