James fingers are stiff from the long travel and the cold wind and he got trouble to open the harnesses of his dogs. Luckily Nyx is giveing him a hand and together they slowly start to release the dogs. After a minute the first dog enters the inn.
While they do that, the other three start to explore the inn. Gilgin picks up a few empty bottles and flips through some playing cards that were left on the table. Hifu starts to examine the room to his left, while Kree starts on the right. Hifu discovers what may have been a storage, but someone turned it into an outhouse and Hifu disgusted by the stink quickly shuts the door again. One by one, Kree is checking the guest rooms. Old mattresses, broken furniture, one got a broken window and snow and cold air is coming in.
Hifu and Kree reach the rooms at the far end, while Gilgin is checking out the bar. The last room they check actually must have been of slightly better quality then the rest, Hifu sees several big beds, a cupboard nice relief decorations on the wall. Kree steps up next to him, to take a look as well. To your surprise, when Kree shines his lantern into the room to have a look, there are suddenly several grey skinned dwarfs standing behind the beds and presses against the walls, their weapons drawn but pressed against their armor to prevent any sound. For a split second there is surprise on their faces, quickly followed by the realisation that their cover got blown somehow.
Kree slowly reaches for his daggers and slowly pulls them out, hiding them behind his back as to not draw suspicion. "This is not what I was expecting..."

In Dwarvish, Kree will speak to the Dwarves. Loud enough so the others could hear him as well, even if they couldn't understand.
Dwarvish:
"Listen ere', we don't want any trouble, we're just lookin to wait out the cold. You stay here, we'll stay out here and we won't be each others problems."
One of the Duergar pulls up a javelin, but upon hearing Kree speak in his language, he hesitates for a second and looks confused to a massiv muscular duergar that stands next to the door close to the wall.
“Nyx! James! We got company!” Gilgin bellows, dropping a glass container as he draws his warhammer. He clambers over towards Hifu and Kree, muttering a prayer in dwarvish.
Oh Dumathoin, may we strike with the force of your very own hammer and our skins be as tough as the steels of your forging.

The muscular Duergar snarls some insults or commands at the hesitant dwarf and then charges shield first into Kree. The rogues attack gets deflected by the shield but at the same time the dwarfs shoulder gets pierced by a javelin. The dwarf tries to shove away from the door:

The dwarf crashes into Kree, but she is able to spin out of the way and the duergar nearly stumbles before he catches himself. He is now standing inside the room door blocking most of the door. Two more dwarfs step out of the shadow into the revealing light and throw their javelins at Kree (+5AC for 2/3cover).
Attack: 10 Damage: 5
Attack: 14 Damage: 4
Both attacks harmlessly hit the doorframe. The other dwarfs hold their attacks until they have a better target. Only one of them steps forward and helps the burly one to try and push Kree out of the way.
Boy and James dog start to bark because of the commotion and all the other dogs join them in waking up everyone.
James and Nyx were surprised.
Round 2:
One of the duergar, the one that hesitated, jumps over the bed and starts to grab stuff from the ground.
Hifu had backpedaled and threw his javelin. He uses his speed now to move forward now and closes the door to the room with the duergar since the first dwarf bounced off Kree. He takes a dagger and wedges it into the doorframe to try to block the dwarves into the room. "Grab that table, brace it up against the door, let's get out of here!" He shouts and points to the table in the middle of the room.

James stops untying his other dogs and follows Nyx inside.
James looks at his dog and commands,
"Atika, heel! Boy, heel!"
Atika, James' lead dog, immediately stops barking and comes to stand beside his master, knowing the command and obeying. James is hopeful that Boy has been similarly trained and will respond to the commanding way James speaks and the way Atika responds.
Animal Handling check to get Boy to fall in beside James: 15
Looking at his friends, who are keeping a door closed, James asks,
"What are we up against, I didn't see?"
James readies his greatsword, as he approaches the others.
