If Balgrim is MIA, what should we do going forward? - Single Choice
Shall we seek a 6th party member? - Single Choice
(Leon's up, just waiting to see if he wants to stay with the group or also split off before I respond to Balgrim, Lazlo, and Kallista heading off to the Pitch, so I'm going to wait until he posts before I go any further than this post with Hyre/Aelar)
(The perception was successful, that's why they didn't get into trouble when they asked the other people, but you can only gain one point to your skill tally a day unless you're doing a skill check against another person.)
Hyre/Aelar:
"Barna, and you can save that silver tongue of yers. You got any coin or food, I'll show ya two weirdos to some books." she says. Barna stands about six feet tall and is probably the same age as Aelar and Hyre, at least in terms of her race. She's not very 'orcish' in that she doesn't have the turned-up nose, massive forehead, or even protruding tusks of a half orc. Her tusks are little more than pointy nubs that just barely peek out from her bottom lip. She was probably cast out for being 'too small' or 'not orc enough'. Her worn dress is too small for her, and has torn about the back and sleeves, showing obvious whip marks, aged and faded, but still visible.
(Aelar now has 2/3 persuasion successes.)

Leon/Kallista/Balgrim/Lazlo:
The Pitch is a pleasant enough spot to spend time in. It's peaceful, and oddly beautiful as the last rays of sun begin to vanish behind the horizon. Other people have clearly used the Pitch for a meal or two or to forage. There's a bit of litter here and there, someone managed to make a few crude stools out of some cut sections of trees. One even has a little depression carved in it to place a fishing pole. The 'stools' have names carved into them, as well as a number of raunchy jokes. The wooded area isn't dense or expansive. It's just a clutch of trees that would only amount to about a couple of soccer fields, but there could be some things to find.
There's a reason that the pond is called a 'hole'. Rather than a smooth tapering down to deeper water, it's like an enormous spike or claw was driven into the ground and filled with water. There's the water's edge, and then there's pitch blackness. It's hard to say how deep it goes. The pond is about a hundred meters wide, and almost perfectly circular.
(Rolling percentile for the chance of there being something else usable here)

Huh, would you look at that. Seems someone's been doing some training here. On one of the stools are a couple of crudely made wooden practice swords.

Lazlo calls out to his friends in a playful tone "I challenge ye to a duel! If I had a gauntlet I'd throw it down. Or am I supposed to slap you with it?" He shrugs. "First maybe we look for some mushrooms and try and get a fish."

(On failure): "Can you release me? I don't like to be held that way."
(After the above): "However, maybe we can help you in something else, or owe you a favour for the future?"

Hyre/Aelar:
Barna wasn't trying to hold onto him, she was just comparing the state of their clothes, but she was letting her hand linger on him for a moment. She clicks her tongue and shrugs then.
"Nothing worth having that isn't coin in these parts." she says, but then considers the offer.
"Well... how desperate ARE you for book readin'?" she asks, leaning towards Hyre. She's not trying to be sly, she's clearly trying to figure him out. She sniffs at him a bit.
"Mmm, maybe not. Never mind. I don't want that kinda karma hangin' off me. You ARE fresh meat, don't even smell like garbage yet. Look, get your hands on some coins and we'll talk then, yeah?" she asks, clearly about to suggest something but her own conscience stops her.

Oh wait! Hang on, roll again Balgrim. If you two are helping each other, you get advantage. Foraging will take about an hour.

"How desperate am I..." He looks at Aelar and then back at her. Desperate isn't the right word, but he did crave to know. He wants to know about magic and history. More specifically, he wanted to know about the Skell and the empty armour shells. Hyre has always dreamt of becoming an adventure. Well, who didn't? But this gave him a push forward. He might pose himself as being cold and indifferent, but he wanted revenge. His enemies were the skell, and didn't want to go against them without knowing anything. He was willing to take some risks, but he didn't want to involve his friends too much. "I guess I'm not too desperate. Not yet. Where can I find you if I do become so? Also, do you know of any place when I can make some quick coin? It seems our clothes keep getting in the way so I want to get new ones quickly..."
He tries to hide his eagreness from both her and Aelar.

Leon picks up one of the wooden practice swords and tucks it his waistband. He one of the fishing poles and casts a line into the pond. He says to Kallista, Balgrim, and Lazlo, "Good luck on your search. I'd rather have something more substantial for dinner than mushrooms though- something that doesn't have the risk of poisoning me."

(Well, I figured you didn't need to roll again since you succeeded Kallista XD and so did Lazlo, buuuut, *hidden rules revealed* if you crit, it will add a die roll to the number of mushrooms you find, so, if you two want, you can roll again with advantage to see if you crit. Either way, you found some 1ups)
The foraging goes extremely well! Everyone found some mushrooms and the coat is ideal to keep them from getting smushed, and takes an hour. You all have to give up when the sunlight is completely spent. (waiting on re-rolls to see how many and what kind of mushrooms were found)
(Also, Leon, first let me know what you're using as bait (yes, it matters) and roll survival again pls!)

Aelar was about to suggest they head to the Pitch when Hyre asked about the quick coin, which sounded a bit too much like something shady. However, he held his tongue, keeping a wary eye about them as they waited for the girl's reply, trying to project confidence, recalling his fight with the centaur to aid him in that.
