While I prefer spending 10 gp on Silk Rope for my low strength characters, my higher strength characters all have 50 feet or even 100 feet of Hempen Rope.
Converting 5e characters who have Hempen Rope to the new PHB 2024 rules means that their gear will now be lighter by 5 lbs, for each bundle of 50 feet. That's Math. I'm going to have to go through all their inventories and lower their carry loads.
What's even more unsettling is that my 5e characters who have Silk Rope are going to get 9 gp back. And that's for each bundle!
I have a Halfling Second-Story Work Rogue with an 8 Strength and he has 250 feet of silk rope in his inventory. He's going to get back 45 gp. How am I going to explain this to the rest of the party!

Why are you giving cash back at all?
Think of it this way. Your replacing old with new? Think of depreciation.
But in an update of a character think of this way. They always had that equipment.
A few gold either way to a character over 3rd level should be nothing.
Well put.
I could also take the Crafter Origin Feat to start saving 20% on Magic Item Purchases right away.
And with Fast Crafting, I can start a shop of my own. I'll be making back the 45 gp lost from 5e24 deprecation of Rope in not time at all.
2014 [item.]Rope, Hempen (50 feet);Rope[/item.] Rope
2014 [item.]Rope, Silk (50 feet);Rope[/item.] Rope
2024 [items.]Rope[/items.] Rope
I didn't realize Rope got sturdier in 2024. DC 20 instead of 17 to break it.
