Hi all, wondering in the new rules how the interaction with Psychic Spells from Great Old One subclass affects something like Suggestion.
It says you can cast an Illusion or Enchantment spell without verbal or somatic components however the Suggestion spell states that you describe a course of action for a creature to follow. Assuming you do so without words, does the creature just intuitively know what your character is suggesting? The subclass also allows you to telepathically communicate with a creature you create a link with but this interaction doesn't really imply you need to do that beforehand.
Describing a course of action for a creature to follow is not part of the spell's components, it's part of the spell's effect. Even the verbal component of the spell is not the suggestion itself. You would do the verbal components as normal to cast the spell, and once that's done, THEN you describe the course of action.
So Psychic Spells only lets you cast it without the components, but you still need to describe the course of action as normal.
In addition to what Sookie_99 said, here's a an official ruling from the Devs in Sage Advice reiterating the fact that spell components are seperate from, and precede spell's effect, with taken as example some verbal spell Suggestion being intelligible utterance as opposed to verbal components that are chanting of esoteric words that sound like nonsense to the uninitiated.
Is the sentence of suggestion in the suggestion spell the verbal component, or is the verbal component separate?
Verbal components are mystic words, not normal speech. The spell’s suggestion is an intelligible utterance that is separate from the verbal component. The command spell is the simplest example of this principle. The utterance of the verbal component is separate from, and precedes, any verbal utterance that would bring about the spell’s effect.

So DM's, how would you run this?

Thank you! It seems logical the way you explained it.

Also, you're a Telepath, so you can just Telepath the Suggestion to them. This is also wickedly thematic.
