So I haven't been able to find a fox stat block for a normal fox. And I wanna use a fox as a familiar but they have to be viable. Like a non darkvision, 20 ft speed, small creature with a 10 passive perception isn't worth it. I want a fox that has some use, and I was hoping someone here has a stat block for them. ^^
That could actually work! Though I might chance the charisma to a 14 for it's cuteness but that's another thing ^^. Did that with my halfling ranger's bear companion. He has I think a 14 charisma. First of because he is sentient, second because he is cute af. And third because intimidation is charisma based so I didn't want him to have a +1 or a +0 because of a -2 charisma or whatever a bear has.^^
Re-skin the stats of a cat or badger or homebrew it.
Cat is probably the best of the two. Thank you! ^^ Oh yeah I will by all means homebrew at least a bit of it. Because I want the fox to be a quick little fluffy shadow of deathly death! ^^ I really like the find familiar spell. And I had a hard time picking between luck or magic initiate. But as luck fits my character, I went with that first, but now I'm getting second thoughts cuz I luv fuxez!
Bit of thread necro, but foxes are 14-20" at the shoulder and 18-35" long. Most jackals aren't any bigger than that, so the Small size should be just fine.
Personally I would rule that Fox stats would use a reskinned cat stat block with the added bonus of 30 ft of darkvision.

Hollow unbreakable arrows are the most OP common magic item, and my current method of coming up with insane combat shenanigans.
if you make a steel pipe with one end closed and a nozzle on the other, you can enlarge it, fill with any liquid, and then drop concentration, creating a high pressure squirt gun. (or a pipe bomb, depending if it holds)

The official fox has darkvision, keen hearing instead of smell, bite (that it is actually proficient in) instead of claws, a burrow speed instead of climb, a slightly higher DEX, and slightly slower walk speed.
And again, I wonder why anyone is still responding to this 3 year old thread, 2 years after it became completely moot by an official release?

well the fox is behind a paywall of 30$ and I don't want to pay that much so

You don't need to purchase the whole book, you can pay just $1.99 for the fox on it's own. You can find that option here

A jackal seems a good start.

I figured foxes would be a tiny beast.
Probably yeah. They are about 1 or 1 and a half feet long so that's true. My bad! Thanks for pointing that out ^^

Actually, in the 3 years since this thread died, there has been an official fox stat block. So further discussion is rather moot.
