Except it's not. I've seen plenty of times where the BattleMaster rolls a 1 or a 2 on their SD and Precision attack still fails to hit. IME Precision attack is a "50% chance to turn a miss into a hit", if your attacks are dealing 1d8+4 damage on a hit then the extra damage from Precision attack is roughly the same as the maneuvers that add 1d8 damage to an attack that's already hit.
Precision attack is a 50% to turn a miss into a hit if you miss by 5... but why are you using it when you rolled that badly? As for 1d8+4... I don't recommend precision attack for two weapon fighters, but I've never seen a single weapon fighter with damage that low.
Battle master doesn't scale terribly well in mid levels, it's very frontloaded, but it starts off extremely powerful and the new level 15 feature is ridiculous.
Hmmm, you know, I think it would be interesting to try some more “interesting” spell choices. Like, of course you would have stables like shield and booming blade, but what if I were to choose options related to healing and life? Or perhaps even necromancy and death? Or even better, a bit of both. Now, saying it out loud seems silly, but I think it would be interesting to at least try, right?
or is this all stupid and are there better options to focus on.
Well, "healing and life" are generally outside of the Wizard kit; there's maybe two HP restoration spells they can natively learn, both Necromancy and neither really spectacular at healing. Necromancy-wise actually raising the dead is a 3rd level spell, so that's way out there for an EK, and the remainder are mostly debuff effects with a few damage/debuff ones in there. It's not objectively impossible to try, but really if you want to mix weapons and necromancy your best bet is something like Death or Grave Domain or possibly Oathbreaker. As I've said, the problem with trying to go wide is that EK's lack the known selection or progression to really be good for mixing marital attacks and utility vs half casters and currently they don't have a good option to bypass making weapon attacks and emphasize INT as their main damage stat, so leaning more heavily on save or suck effects is mostly going to suck for the EK. IDK, if some people are able to make their personal fantasies work by grabbing other spells good for them, but imo the remaining constraints on EK mean that the couple of wildcard picks you got were better for letting people customize while guiding them into a generally workable build than open season will be. We'll see how it shakes out in the new PHB.
hm. Yeah, that sounds about right. An EK is still a fighter, and the spells that an EK takes will probably reflect that.
Maybe I'll look into necromancy wizard, but that still doesn't dampen my excitement for the new EK. After all, I see myself playing many DnD playthroughs in the future.
Any time an unfathomably powerful entity sweeps in and offers godlike rewards in return for just a few teensy favors, it’s a scam. Unless it’s me. I’d never lie to you, reader dearest.
oh wait, that's right. Paladin is a holy warrior, and EK is like a 'spellblade'
Hm. Well, maybe I can figure something out. And who knows? Maybe there will be some fun new spells to play with, because I do want to find a way (even with the limited spells known) to try and do some magical wizard things even as a fighter. Or perhaps this is all wishful thinking
I did notice that with the new EK you lose the lvl 17 combo with Bladesinger where you take attack action, take 3 attacks but replace one with booming blade, then make a bonus attack for 4 attacks per turn. But that's lvl 17 lol.

healing and life is kinda a paladin.

The new Bladeward is gunna rock.
