I like the soulknife. I really like the soulknife. I played through the heartache of the 3rd edition soulknife and I wrote a homebrew Soulknife class for 4e. And I don't hate the soulknife as presented as a Mystic subclass. It's... fine.
But having playtested it, and having gone back and forth between the same character built as a Soulknife and as an Immortal, I have to conclude that he best solution to the subclass is for it to become a discipline, available to every mystic class. For that matter, it could simply be rolled into the Psionic Weapon discipline:
Soulknife (0-7 psi, 10 min)
As a bonus action, you create scintillating knives of energy that project from either or both of your fists. You can't hold anything in a hand that is manifesting one of these blades. You can dismiss them at any time.
The Soulknife is a natural melee weapon with the light and finesse properties. It deals 1d8 psychic damage on a hit.
Your Soulknives gain a bonus to attacks and damage equal to one-half the number of psi points spent. If you spend 7 psi points, this bonus equals +4.
When you slay an enemy creature with a Soulknife attack, you immediately regain up to two psi points used to create that Soulknife.
"...Debts must always be paid, sometimes in more than blood and gold. But this is Ordo Ursa," Ren places his hand on Erakas's chest, right where the Dragonborn's heart is. "Right here. And it always has been and always will be. Don't ever forget that. Because I won't."
