Seeking an opinion on my Kensei Monk. I am planning to do 19 levels of Monk, and 1 level of Cleric (not sure what domain yet). The reason I am doing this is because I would like to be able to apply my own debuff (Bane) to make my stunning strikes more likely to hit. I am playing on a West March server so there is no set party so I never know if we have a healer/debuffer until the session starts. Even though it is low level, I will at least be able to bring people back with a healing word. Is there a better dip to make the debuff possible? I am currently a lvl 4 Kensei Monk, and plan to get to level 5, then take the 1 lvl dip into Cleric. My stats are currently 11/18/15/10/20/10.
Also, thematically, my character grew up in a cave network living off fungus, and not so flavorful things that grow underground, so he is a tubby food obsessed Monk now that he has experienced well-spiced food. If Cleric is the best way to get this debuff, what domain fits best? I was thinking twilight (I am custom lineage and could take a proficiency instead of darkvision to get full use out of the 300ft darkvision). Any better ideas for the Cleric Dip?
You could just pick up bane through a feat, but taking a level of cleric would probably be less burdensome.
Forge Cleric would give you access to some smite spells, but it wouldn't really be that important with just one level. Giving a +1 to your weapon until the next long rest is also neat, although it kind of ruins Sharpen the Blade, unless you are ok with not sinking ki into getting +3 at higher levels.
War Cleric would give you full weapon extra attacks, and a channel divinity for landing your attacks. Divine Favor as another spell option for adding an average of+2 to your attacks wouldn't be bad though.
The Arcana Domain would be my vote for weird by useful. You would get access to 5 cantrips in a addition to your spells, including 2 wizard cantrips that use wisdom for you. That could give you more ranged options, and some more versatility out of combat. Also, playing off Shocking Grasp or Booming Blade as some kind of Anime style attack on a monk just sounds cool.
