Now, we all have heard of it and I'm sure you all have opinions on it. I'm here to share mine and let you share yours. In my opinion, it's not a bad thing. Not an amazing thing either but a decently nice thing. AI can't fully make something original and instead sources stuff from the internet and such. This doesn't make it a horrible thing to use though. Yes, it may sample things, but it likely samples a countless amount of things, leading to it not being "stolen art" Now, it is invalid to pass off AI-generated content as your own but don't think of it as some evil thing that will put artists out of business. I like to think of it instead as what it is. A tool that can assist creativity. It can be used for inspiration and ideas. It can be used by those who can't make their own content in a way that they like, instead letting them express the idea of it and finally be able to visualize what they've been thinking of. You don't have to like it, and I hope that some people continue to not like it, keeping real artists elevated far above it where they belong. But at the end of the day, it is a revolutionary tool and it would be a shame not to give it some use.
Art has long been regarded as a manifestation of human creativity, expression, and emotion. It serves as a mirror reflecting the depths of our culture, history, and imagination. However, with the advent of artificial intelligence (AI), a new player has entered the artistic arena, raising questions about the authenticity and societal implications of AI-generated art. While proponents hail AI art as a groundbreaking fusion of technology and creativity, its detrimental impact on society cannot be overlooked.
Firstly, AI art undermines the essence of human creativity. True artistic expression stems from the complex interplay of emotions, experiences, and perceptions unique to the human condition. AI, devoid of consciousness and emotional depth, can only mimic patterns and algorithms fed into its system. The result is a soulless imitation of art, lacking the depth and authenticity that define human creations. By blurring the lines between genuine artistic expression and algorithmic replication, AI art diminishes the value of human creativity, relegating it to a mere commodity in the hands of machines.
Moreover, the proliferation of AI art exacerbates societal inequality and marginalization. Traditionally, artists have relied on their talent, skill, and perseverance to carve a niche in the competitive art world. However, AI's ability to churn out endless variations of artwork at the click of a button threatens to devalue the labor and craftsmanship of human artists. As AI-generated art gains prominence, traditional artists face displacement and commodification, struggling to compete with the efficiency and novelty of machine-produced creations. This widening gap between AI and human artists not only erodes the livelihoods of creative individuals but also perpetuates socio-economic disparities in the art industry.
Furthermore, AI art perpetuates a culture of passivity and consumerism, diminishing the role of the audience in the artistic experience. Art has always been a medium of dialogue and reflection, inviting viewers to interpret, critique, and engage with the works on a personal level. However, AI-generated art, designed to cater to predefined preferences and trends, prioritizes mass appeal over individual expression. As algorithms dictate the content and style of AI art, viewers are reduced to passive consumers, devoid of agency in shaping their artistic encounters. This passive consumption of AI-generated content not only stifles critical thinking and creativity but also fosters a homogenized cultural landscape devoid of diversity and innovation.
Furthermore, the rise of AI art raises ethical concerns regarding authorship, ownership, and accountability. Unlike human artists who imbue their works with personal experiences and intentions, AI operates as a tool programmed by its creators. This blurs the lines of authorship and ownership, complicating legal and ethical frameworks surrounding intellectual property rights and artistic attribution. Moreover, AI's lack of moral agency and accountability raises questions about the consequences of its creations, particularly in sensitive or controversial contexts. As AI art becomes increasingly integrated into mainstream culture, society must grapple with the ethical implications of relinquishing creative control to autonomous systems.
In conclusion, while AI art promises innovation and novelty, its detrimental impact on society cannot be ignored. By undermining human creativity, exacerbating socio-economic disparities, fostering passivity, and raising ethical concerns, AI art threatens to erode the very fabric of artistic expression and cultural identity. As we navigate the evolving relationship between technology and art, it is imperative to safeguard the authenticity, diversity, and humanity of creative endeavors, lest we succumb to a dystopian future devoid of genuine artistic innovation and meaning.
I just think it's a helpful thing that I use every now and again. Also nothic, not everyone is a master artist who can create images of the like seen of Midjourney Bot. I think its a nice thing, which i use more because my artistic skill don't exceed stickmen.

Nah, I just asked ChatGPT to write me an essay about the detrimental impacts of AI art on society. Figured it’d be ironic.
My own opinion is that AI art is entirely unethical and it should never have ever gone public. AI art is fine for research and noncommercial endeavors, but our society can’t be trusted to use it in a safe of ethical way. Just look at the Taylor Swift deepfakes.
I have no issue with smaller companies employing the use of AI in situations where art is a necessity and they can’t afford a real artist, but when WotC or Paizo does it they’re setting precedent. It’d be much better for everyone if laws were passed restricting AI art commercially — they’ve already ruled that AI art can’t be copyrighted, but we need more assurance it will stop putting artists out of a job.
I agree with you, Nothic. I do have a confession. I do kindof enjoy Ai art. I'm not saying it's good or anything. Just typing in a prompt that no one could possibly create is funny. But, the fact that people are outright using it for jobs that people SHOULD be doing is just heading for disaster. People in Hollywood are striking because executives are firing their human animators for Ai. They're just using Ai so they don't have pay as many employees and they can keep the excess money that should be going to the animators or at the very least, the people that are STILL WORKING FOR THE DANGED COMPANY, but no. The executives only keep the money because then they get richer. I know. It's dumb. And people are using Ai art to FAKE EVIDENCE! IN SUPREME COURT! Okay, maybe not that high, but STILL! They are using it to fake the truth in the place that YOU HAVE TO BE TRUTHFUL or else JAIL. Ai art is good for like playing around with it. It's funny to see some of the things that it comes up with; but using it as A REPLACEMENT FOR HUMANS AND A WAY TO FUDGE THE TRUTH IN COURT!? Yea there's only so much time before I'll never leave the house again.

Yeah AI art sucks, and is kind of stupid. someone wants to create their own thing- it won't make their own thing, people can make what they want, yet it's not what they want. if you want to make something, make it without AI art: It is bad for the consumer, as they get a twisted, distorted version of what they want. it is bad for the artists as it puts them out of jobs, and steals their work
