The town of Gibburg sat quietly at the bottom of a valley for quite some time, living in a region long forgotten. About 666 years ago, Gibburg Manor, the home of Gibber the Sane, lord of the town, mysteriously exploded without explanation after a party. Many rumours and conspiracies have spouted as to how it happened, but nobody had lived to reveal the truth- at least, nobody who would tell.
Now, as Hallow's Eve arrived, and the month of October foretold mysterious happenings to occur, the townsfolk made nothing of it. At least, not until Gibburg Manor reformed. It happened out of nowhere, as spontaneous and sudden as the undead might rise from the grave. There was not a scratch to it, it seemed- it was almost like nothing had happened at all, except all of the town remembered the ruin it had been the night before. So, at the brink of dawn, many of the townsfolk went in a group to investigate.
Like the exterior, the inside was practically the same as before. A grand foyer lay past the entrance, and even further were stairs that led to guest rooms. The decorations were the same as one would find from a party held hundreds of years ago. Paintings of unknown people hung on the walls, and it almost felt like they were watching the visitors enter the threshold of this ancient space. Imageless tapestries hung from the walls. There was no signs of aging, as if it had been stuck in time before suddenly reappearing. All was the same, except for a stained glass window above the stairs. Stories told of an elegant display of abstract color, but this was different. For it portrayed multiple varied scenes of different groups- a regular town appearing twice, the North Pole with Christmas Elves scurrying around, the very manor the town stood in celebrating the party, supposedly the one it had before its ruin, unidentified flying objects with beams of green light emitting from them brainwashing humans, a luxurious house full of evil looking individuals, astronauts of strange body shapes and different colored suits running around on a ship, and then two strange figures- one in a black suit, mask, cape, hat and white bowtie, and another with white fur and glowing blue eyes. In the center, art of a Jack-o'-lantern glowed with a large, gaping maw as it is portrayed mid-laugh. Everyone was confused, and then as they all inspected the window, ominous laughter filled the Manor. The townsfolk looked around wildly, but it seemed to be coming from everywhere. The doors closed and secured themselves with an unbreachable padlock. The tapestries suddenly gained images, showing portrayals of betrayal, backstabbing, and slaughter. An altar rose from the ground, with a circle and cryptic directions. Text appeared in the air in blood-red colors: SOME AMONG YOU ARE NOT WHO THEY SEEM TO BE. ELIMINATE THEM BEFORE THEY ELIMINATE YOU. The town went on the brink of insanity after hearing this, all talking amongst themselves, but some of them just stood there, looked at their fellow accomplices, and smiled. A large amount of victims all in one place. They just had to kill them slowly and not get found. This will be fun.

Welcome to the 10th Mafia Game! Took me a while, but I finally made it. For those who have never heard of this before, mafia is a game of scheming, manipulation, deceit, and betrayal. Some of the people among you are secretly Mafia, and it's up to everyone to find out who they are or die trying. As I said before, this isn't the first mafia game that has been held on DDB- we've had 9 before, each run by a different person. And since it's spooky month, what better time there is to revive it with a Halloween theme? (Although, it may run even after Halloween's gone by.)
Since it's been a while, and there are probably gonna be people that are new to this, the rules and roles of the game are below. All we need now are the rales, the reles, and the riles.
Rules of the Game:
Mafia on here starts with a simple process.
1. Make a sign up thread, and wait for enough people to join. What I'm doing here.
2. The game starts. Different roles will be assigned to different people. This can be a Town Role, Mafia Role, or Neutral Role. The different roles are in the Roles Section if you want to see what they are.
3. People are pm'ed their roles and the game thread is made. The game starts. :D
Then the actual game is split into two periods: Day and Night.
Day: People can discuss who they think mafia is and vote for who they think is the most suspicious. You can vote someone by saying: VOTE: PERSON or choose against it by saying VOTE: SKIP VOTE. The one with the most votes dies, and their role will be revealed. Day lasts 48 IRL hours (or more if I'm busy or purposefully extend it), and then it goes to night.
Night: This is when the regular townsfolk sleep and those with special roles do their stuff. Everything during night is done in PMs for secrecy, and people don't discuss the game in the main thread (you can goof around, just don't say stuff like who you're sus of). Night lasts 24 IRL hours (or more if I'm busy or purposefully extending it), and then it goes back to day and I'll reveal the results of the actions (whether it be in PM or the main thread).
Day and Night may last shorter then expected if everyone has voted for day or done their actions for night. This goes on in an endless cycle until a win goal is met.
Mafia: Have there be an amount of non-mafia equal to the amount of mafia, since they can't be voted out then and are free to slaughter.
Townsfolk: Eliminate all of the mafia and free the manor of evil!
Neutral: Each neutral role has their own goal that they're working towards. They work with neither mafia nor the town.
After the condition for winning is met, they win!!! Truly the plot twist of all time.
General Rules:
1. Don't be rude. It's just a game, don't get mad over someone making a mistake or two.
2. Dead people will be added to a Graveyard PM where they can discuss with other people who have met an unfortunate fate, and the roles of everyone will be revealed to them if they want. I feel like this is obvious, but don't talk about the game in the main thread if you're a ghost. You can goof around in the main thread at night, but you can't talk about the actual game or talk at all during the day.
3. NO PM SHARING. If you want, you are free to share your role, but you can't provide out of game proof of that. It's fine to say "I'm a townsfolk", it's not to say "I'm a townsfolk, here is the exact wording or a screenshot of my Role PM from Gibber."
4. Not a rule, but feel free to ask for rule clarifications if you're unsure of stuff! Don't want any confusion, besides scrambling to figure out the mafia. :)
5. If you want to join after the game has started, or if you need to step out of the game for whatever reason, there'll be a queue system where people who need to leave can be replaced by others.
6. Put "Spooky Scary Skeletons" in your first post to show you read these.
7. What happens in Gibburg Manor stays in Gibburg Manor. Don't make unofficial PMs to talk to each other in secret.
The Roles:
There are some custom or changed roles! However, there is a possibility not all of these will be used or changes will be made to better balance certain roles. Feel free to give your opinion on anything here!
THE TOWN
(Eliminate all threats, whatever it takes.)
Regular Townsfolk: They're a regular townsfolk with no special abilities. GASP!!!
Fortune Teller (Detective/Cop): Can use their crystal ball to gleam into other's true intentions and activities during the night. Each night, they can choose one person to reveal the alignment of (town, neutral or mafia).
Reaper (Vigilante): Can slay the Mafia with their scythe they found. Each night, they can choose to kill one person, but if they slay an innocent the scythe is revolted and vanishes. (The Reaper becomes a Regular Townsfolk.)
Guardian Angel (Doctor)- Sent down from the heavens to help the townsfolk in secret. Each night, they can choose to protect someone. That person will not die if they are attacked.
Dungeon Keeper (Jailer)- Somehow, the dungeon under this place is still intact after all of these years, and the Keeper has found the key. They can choose one person to throw in the dungeon each night, rendering them incapable of a role action that night if they have one.
Specter of Vengeance (Vengeful Townie)- At first a regular townie, but when they die they are filled with a burning desire for revenge. When you die, be it by murder or being voted out, you can choose one person to kill.
Dreamer (Suggested by Himynamesare)- Capable of glimpsing into the dreams of others. During night, they may choose a person to see the dreams of. When they do this, they see what they were doing last night.
THE NEUTRAL
(Out for themselves, each with their own goal.)
Poltergeist (Jester with a twist)- Has been stuck in a mortal body for quite a bit of time, and the ritual to vote out others will allow them to be free and cause their chaos. If the Poltergeist is voted out, they kill a number of players equal to half of the starting amount (for example, if we start with 12 people, the poltergeist can kill 6). If this ends the game, the poltergeist wins and everyone else loses. Otherwise, the poltergeist doesn't win, although they did make the town lose a lot of people.
Cultist (Custom)- The Cultist is a member of a cult that has been trying for hundreds of years to perform a ritual to summon untold horror, and this is their biggest chance they've gotten since the original party at Gibburg Manor. The Cultist works in the shadows, hoping to complete the ritual by binding the souls of everyone in the Manor. Each night, they may choose a person to bind. Once everyone alive besides themselves is binded, including mafia, they may sacrifice the souls in the ritual at any time and win the game, with everyone else losing.
THE MAFIA
(Slay those who are unfortunately trapped in the Manor with you, while keeping yourself safe from ejection.)
Every night, one eligible mafia can choose to carry out a kill. It is not every mafia that gets to kill per night.
Demon (Mafia Goon)- Working with the other supernatural beings of the town, you have possessed a townie's body and are masquerading as them. Eligible for the night's kill, but no special abilities.
Vampire (Consort)- Formerly a townsfolk, now turned into an undead, quite literally bloodthirsty monster. Can suck the blood of someone each night (not included with the mafia kill), which doesn't kill them but leaves them injured to the point where they can't do their night action that night. If all other mafia are dead, they kill instead of blocking night actions.
Werewolf (Custom, with some inspiration from Godfather)- Undergoes a horrific transformation into a monster before going on a rampage. However, they appear completely innocent when not in beast form. They are eligible for the night's kill, and when they do so they are immune to the Reaper's attack as their scythe is not made of silver, but appear as guilty to the Fortune Teller. When you are not performing the night's kill, you appear as innocent to the Fortune Teller, but can be killed by the reaper.

Yo I’m Himy (He/Him) (pronounced exactly as written for those who are wondering) I'm adhd and exhibit high antisocial tendencies, so bear with me if I seem apathetic. I like reading, watching anime, playing video games, and questioning my morality. I don't rp as much as I used to, but I'm almost aways on Onions or LCW. Always willing to chat. That’s all folks!
“Memento Mori. All things die eventually, so make the most of the time you have left.” - me
Count me spooky scary skeletin! (See what I did there?)
I love how the idea for this thread is a super-serious "we're all going to die and have our souls devoured" thing, and we're all just making puns about it.

(Neutral) The Possessed- Acts as an ordinary civilian, considered innocent by all. Every few nights, (determined by Gibber/the Host or the d4) they become possessed, and have to choose someone to kill.
<I don't recommend having the Possessed and the Possessor at the same time>
(Mafia) The Possessor- Instead of the night's kill, the Possessor can choose to possess a normal townsfolk. The Possessor then chooses someone to kill. The townsfolk kills that person, appearing as guilty to The Fortune Teller. If the Dreamer attempts to detect The Possessor's activity of the night, they only get The Possessor meditating.
(Town) The Necromancer- Every other night, can choose to resurrect a person. Unless that person's alignment is known already, the Necromancer does not know their alignment. This person becomes either a Normal Townsfolk (Neutral or Town) or a Mafia Goon (Mafia), depending on their alignment. However, this person cannot share any information from the graveyard.
(Neutral) The Mad Scientist- Every three nights, creates a monster from the corpses of the dead. This monster takes the place of an ordinary townsperson and is identical to a Normal Townsfolk, voting just as any other. If the only population left is The Mad Scientist and his Monsters, he wins. If he dies, then his monsters go on a rampage, killing a number of people equal to the amount of monsters he has. If this ends the game, then he wins.
Feel free to modify or not use them.

Don't you just love platypuses/platypi/platypodes?
(Neutral) The Possessed- Acts as an ordinary civilian, considered innocent by all. Every few nights, (determined by Gibber/the Host or the d4) they become possessed, and have to choose someone to kill.
Maybe. I'd prefer to not have that much killing roles added since we already have mafia, vigilante, voting out, jester...
Also, I feel like this would work better as a townsfolk, since they don't really have a unique goal and are just a regular townie with a flaw.
<I don't recommend having the Possessed and the Possessor at the same time>

If this existed, what would be the point of killing regularly when you can just possess every single time? Also, not planning on more then 3 mafia unless we get a LOT of people, and I'm aiming for like 12.
Any death reveals the killed person's alignment. I was actually thinking of something pretty similar to this, where they sacrifice themself by spending life force to revive one other person, but decided against it. The problems with this are 1. Every other night is really powerful since this essentially doubles the amount of time it takes mafia to win. And 2. If they can't share information, there is quite literally no point to reviving them besides being a nuisance to mafia and slowing the game down. But if they can, then it's game over since they know what everyone is.
See the first point.
These are really cool ideas, and I could possibly add some with some changes, but the biggest issue is space. I didn't anticipate any more roles and it's kinda full rn. I'm planning to start with around 12 people, maybe less if it's taking a long time, and there's 12 roles, so already pretty crammed unless we get more. Maybe in another game?

I completely understand. I thought that death didn't reveal the alignment, in which case the Necromancer would be a gamble.

I love how the idea for this thread is a super-serious "we're all going to die and have our souls devoured" thing, and we're all just making puns about it.

Can I make a suggestion? How about a new role(s)?

Maybe. I'd prefer to not have that much killing roles added since we already have mafia, vigilante, voting out, jester...
Also, I feel like this would work better as a townsfolk, since they don't really have a unique goal and are just a regular townie with a flaw.
If this existed, what would be the point of killing regularly when you can just possess every single time? Also, not planning on more then 3 mafia unless we get a LOT of people, and I'm aiming for like 12.

(Also, it looks like you sent the message twice on my computer)
