I am looking to run a campaign or at least the first part of one and then progress it from there. This will be horror and survival themed with the players taking roles as villagers, hunters or small time casters, largely left alone and isolated the region they exist in has not encountered monsters, demons or much magic or at least not commonly for centuries. In fact for the most part they happily live their lives with only stories of such things or occasional tales from passing traders. Ruins are left alone, whole towns deserted and nobody dares to venture in a see what awaits, the heroes won and cast out the evil centuries ago…or at least that’s what the stories say….and yet still nobody dares to look in the dark places of the world for fear of what may lurk there.
You can play can play whatever race and class you want except homebrew, bear in mind that your characters probably have a trade, a life and probably quite happily go about things without really considering a dragon burning a village down. The scariest thing they probably face is bandits, goblins and such. You can go with starting gold and purchase what you want, you will need to roll for sanity as well, standard rolls, coin weight on, encumbrance on as well.
I will say now you will for the most part be in charge of rolling for your characters sanity, fear and madness for the most part, he/she is your character and you will be the judge on what would unnerve them. If you give a brief try and include some fears/ phobias for flavour.
A few questions. Are you using standard array, point buy, or rolling for attributes.
I am looking to play a Firblog Druid. He would be the protector of (ecosystem would depend on setting local) a short distance from a small village. If the village would be friendly to one such as he then he would be on friendly terms with them and come in every few month to trade and find companionship with select friends. If the people of the village would view him as a monster than he would be more of a nature spirit to be appeased and avoided by the locals. He would make his living off of the land and as a protector of nature with small supplements through trade or taken from poachers.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
This sounds interesting:
I'm preparing a Human in his late 30's, he served for a time to the city watch but something happened and he had to step out of that gig...he became a fisherman to make a living so he changed the old long sword for a trident and net, he spends most of his time in taverns, and some say that he spends more time fighting than drinking (and he is quite the drinker)
Sanity Roll: 13
Phobias: As a seasoned warrior and tavern brawler Bodin believes that he is not afraid of anything (mostly because he stop caring a long time ago) but being sober brings the insomnia, and the insomnia bring back those memories. ((I haven't determined what happened with him before, maybe we can tie this in to the lore of the campaign or just say that a group of humanoids killed the sector he was patrolling or somehing like that))
(The message is because I erased the stats rolled before and just made a new one for Sanity)
We will go with standard array and just roll for the sanity attribute. Level 1 will be fine, we will use mike stones. I’ll share what I’ve got on here.
miagi that will be fine, they would probably see him as a friend, Probably With equal parts superstition and curiosity
Sounds like an interesting and fun game concept. Will you be using the starting equipment or the starting gold? I was thinking of making a Tiefling Bard if that is acceptable. I'm curious on how the sanity attribute will work and if it is treated like the rest of the base stats, i.e. str, dex, con, ect. If accepted into the game, I'll come up with more of a bio along with his fears/phobias.
Short bio: Stix is a Tiefling that spends most of his time either at the markets or in the taverns trying to earn coin through musical performances or telling stories of monsters, demons, heroes of old, and the supposed history of the ruins and abandoned towns. He keeps himself mostly covered up, but his horns keep the hood of his cloak from covering his face exposing parts of his rusty red skin and yellow eyes; and his tail seems to have a mind of its own and can be seen when it moves the back of his cloak around. Despite his infernal heritage, Stix does try to make the best out of his situations.
I'll admit that I have no experience with PbP but have been curious about it for some time. My local group fell apart fairly quickly. My experience with RP is a few years of 3.5e, Pathfinder, and the little bit of 5e. I have a few character ideas that I'll get built up and pick my favorite to post.
I would like to play, Lucien, a Human and the local Ranger/Hunter/Tanner.
Short-bio: Lucien is 32 years old and has a loved daughter Laura, and a much-loved daughter Sirya, of 7 years old. He wants to leave his modest, simple but joyful life for as long as he can. This small rural village is perfect for them. What he fears the most, is heaving his family in peril, he will do everything to protect them.
The general plan is that the sanity stat is going to act as a basis for your characters mental well-being, so anything below a 5 basically means that the character is mentally unstable to start off with to some degree, 10 is around average - they pretty much act as the average person would, 15 is where they get to the point where unless you are talking undead, demons and extremely stressful situations they keep it together. Once you get to a 20 they are probably the ones causing the traumatic experience.
There will be 3 strikes with strike 2 (Short Term ) and 3 ( Long Term ) resulting in a roll on the madness tables before starting again. The stats ability modifier will represent your characters ability to cope with their stress. I plan on letting you guys judge when you need to roll and what DC you need to roll against as they are your characters and its a bit unfair if i have arbitrary saves for you when you know your characters best. Its meant to act as a RP element and give a sense that as your characters delve more into the past and go up against these evils it puts strain on them, warps their minds and that aren't just at risk of losing your characters life.
@Jpmick - Don't worry mate, the main difference is ranges with PBP as you don't have the board to go by I have most of this set up with little drawings or on the pc so i knew roughly where people are.
Vosnin Emberlight is a local weapons blacksmith within the city, operation out of "Fury Forge." He is a dwarf from the local mountains in the area. His dwarven clan has branched out in their enterprise sending blacksmiths to local cities to produce and sell weapons. Business has been good for the most part.

Would love to play as the local priestess if that's cool? Not sure what deity would fit best?
Sister Jess, a middle aged halfling woman, spends most of her time tending the small village shrine. She preforms the usual duties you would expect; presiding over weddings, coming of age ceremonies, and funerals. She also visits and tends to any sick folk in the village or surrounding land. She usually uses mundane medication, but magic comes in handy during emergencies.

Rollback Post to RevisionRollBack
Current Characters: Tailine, Tiefling Rogue 2 - Zanoliv
Hokaen is a half-elf who was raised by his human mother who told him nothing of his father. Growing up poor, Hokaen found or stole to help survive. After his mother's death in a fire that burned his home and which he barely escaped from himself, he was an orphan. The guardsman who took him in would later inspire him to turn his life around and he joined the watch as an investigator. Still without answers as to what caused the sudden fire that took his mother all those years ago.

Thanks, he is know as a Shepard of the forest. He will even watch over villagers in his woods if they show the proper respect for nature. This would include only killing predators in self defense and not for sport, hunting only what is needed, and never clear cutting an area of forest. If they follow these rules he will lead dangerous creatures away from the villagers and help the lost find their way out of the forest. On the few time he has entered the village it is to buy mead, his weakness. As a Firblog he has never had need of names but the children would call him “The Blue Spirt”. This has shortened to Blue and is what he is called by the villagers. In the past he befriended a satyr and learned to play the pan pipes from him.

did you guys wish to use discord for this or are you happy to use the forums? I have both. DIscord does have the slight advantage as I can add in pictures and improvised maps if we need them for ideas on what things look like, extra chat etc.

What will be the expected frequency of this? Will it be X posts/week or set days/times?
It will be weekly, probably about twice a week at least. It gives people time to get on with life and stops anyone from getting behind.

I'd like Discord in case, useful for OOC chat or quick answers, you can even add a dice roller
I have never used discord before but am always willing to learn.
