First time DM. Lots of people looking to play, but a shortage of DMs. I want to help fix that, welcome to Vash's Undead Nightmare.
This was once a world of heroes, large empires grew and fell over the millennia but a dark force had put an end to that over a hundred years ago. The once great empires of man, the mountain kingdoms of the dwarves, and the forest sanctuaries of the elves have been disconnected by the armies of the undead. Those cities and walled villages that have not yet fallen serve as points of light in a dark world, but with each passing year teeter ever close to the edge of starvation. The hordes of undead that roam make travel by night all but suicide mission, our unlikely heroes have all found their way to the city of Pleasant Field by one means or another. Can they save the world from the eternal darkness, or will they succumb to the horrid creatures that lurk both within and beyond the walls...
Addition: This story will be the growth of your characters from local, to regional, to world wide heroes. The game would start with your characters in Pleasant Field, a sectioned off city with 4 quadrants only one is safe for non-undead habitation, their they will interact, level up and so on. As you grow in ability and talent you will be able to expand the area controlled in the city. As time goes on you will work to secure food, supplies and ect. towards strengthening the cities independence. Later you will expand to other cities and help to relight the flame of the world. Of course the malevolent forces of the world will take more and more notice to your action sending acolytes against you until you may one day face you. Thats all I wanna give so I don't give up to much away.
An idea my father always had, and one I finally wanted to put into action, I would prefer more 'traditional' heroes those being human, dwarf, elf, half-elf so on, will make some exceptions as long as you are willing to talk about their backstory. Looking for a 5-6 man group, will work on a first come first serve basis unless extreme circumstance. Recommended classes include: Fighter, rouge, magic user (Non-druid), cleric, and one or two user choice. Thanks for reading, and I hope to see you in the graveyard.
Edit: Thanks for your interest this is now closed but if anything I hope you will be inspired by me and be your own DM and gain the experience. Good luck out there, and keep lucky!
This sounds like good fun. Just a few questions first: What level are we starting at? What kind of schedule are you hoping to run? Are there any restrictions on alignment? In short, can you give a few more details as to your vision for the campaign beyond the (very interesting) background?
@hydra1418. The PC will be starting at level one. Schedule is a minimum response of 2 to 3 times a week. For alignment I would hope anything above true nutral to minimize clashes inside the party, but again if good reasoning we may see and evil or chaotic working with them. And yes I plan on adding more just wanted to get it up as fast as possible, will add more in a bit, thanks.
Name: Jordy La Forge Age: 28 Race: Human Class: Fighter Background: Soldier Moral Compass: Lawful Good
Backstory: Jordy thought that the only thing he ever had to worry about was guarding the village from the hordes of undead that roamed outside the city's walls. There was always the lone one that wandered inside the city's defenses but nothing major ever happened, that is until the dark night when death filled the streets. One night the city's gates were left opened, letting the undead into the city. Seeing that the city hade fallen, Jordy fled, looking for the safety of another city. Soon he finds himself in Pleasant Field.
“Spirit. In every language in all the Realms, surface and Underdark, in every time and every place, the word has a ring of strength and determination. It is the hero's strength, the mother's resilience and the poor man's armor. It cannot be broken and it cannot be taken away.”
Backstory: Yelfrig Survift lived in a house of a respectable size in the middle of the woods near the small town. His mother was an elf married to his human father were hunters and gatherers of the goods that could be found in the woods and he ,alongside them, was a little bit of help. His mother taught him the ways of the forest and father taught him the ways of books and alchemy. By the time he grew up the immense presence of undead in the wild was noticeable so his mother taught him how to fight and operate with weapons. At the same time he learned about his lineage and blood, the knowledge came with the ability to manifest power from his own blood upon his blade. Undead were still swarming the woods and now even some towns, and once the town they traded with collapsed they had to run. However they had no place to run, and the family of three tried to fight their way through the forest. Unfortunately only Yelfrig survived the numerous fights and chase downs, finally finding a populated town of Pleasent Field.
Great, I would say with what we have so far with fighter, magic, and a monk special. 2 or three more and we should be good. Also Nova I would be happy to guide you through if you would like to play. Take some time to look at the classes I have recommended and some time at races and I will give my input. I am so happy with all the interest. Thanks!
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
If you're still looking I'd love to get in.
Name: Vanya Faelin
Race: High Elf
Class: Wizard
Vanya grew up in Pleasant Field and remembers a time before the scourge took over most of the city. Her family was killed by an undead horde and since then she has devoted her life to becoming powerful enough to end this suffering. She has studied the dark arts and has just recently unlocked the power inside her to channel arcane energy into powerful spells.
Name: Lotta Sparks Age: 24 Race: Human Class: Sorcerer Background: Urchin Alignment: Neutral Good
Lotta lost her parents to the undead. She grew up alone in the streets of Pleasant Field and survived mainly thanks to her innate magical abilities. She has recently lost her work as a tavern wench due to constantly forgetting or mixing up orders. Now she is looking for an other job.
Okay so we max size plus one. As it stands we have
Drow monk, human sorceress, human fighter, half-elf rouge, elf wizard, half-elf blood hunter, and human ranger.
Now I am okay with running it like this, but it might slow down the game a bit by this large. Another thing I will warn about is that I will not curve it for lack of healer. Feel free to discuss among yourselves any changes you would like to ask of each other. I will also be doing a pm with each person for any necessary tweaks needed for the game. Thanks for your interest. I look forward to being your DM!
It might be, yeah. Perhaps either I (the monk) or the player playing the rogue should change characters. I planned on going Way of Shadow so that would be a little redundant. I liked the character I had planned out, but I also like the sound of a cleric in an undead campaign so.... you tell me.
I'm playing the rogue, but I'll have to see what Vash says about my proposed character. It did kind of depend on NOT using magic, so I'd have to come up with something completely different, hmm...

I'd be very interested! I'm relatively new to DnD, but RP veteran.
I've got at least one character idea at present (a rogue) but I don't mind playing any particular class as need be.
I can post... a lot. I'm injured and off work, so I got nothin' but time.
So a zombie apocalypse type setting? Sounds great.
I would like to make a human Divine Soul Sorceress. I'm not sure if that is a "traditional enough" magic user tough, seeing as druid is discouraged.

We will be using rolls for this. Thank you again for all the replies.

No healing seems a little rough, though?

Divine Soul Sorcerers have access to cleric spells. I have Healing Word and Spare The Dying from the start.
