Hello all, I had an idea to make a campaign but instead of the normal character application process we would roll for everything. I’m talking gender, race, class, background, subclass, stats, “alignment”
Once all the rolling is done and we have the bones of the character you will be free to write their story of who they are. I will gladly help and bounce ideas to get a good fit for the party.
Through my past experience I know I prefer and best handle a group of 4. Looking to start at level 3. I have the first dungeon crawl prepared to get a glimpse of what you’re characters can do. From that the campaign I make will be heavily dependent on what characters we have created.
The only rerolls that I will allow:
1. is if there is a repeat between characters and the SECOND characters chooses to switch.
2. not one stat being equal or greater than 15 (no rerolling 1’s)
Obviously looking for people that can go with the flow and aren’t looking to min/max. I am pretty chill when it comes to shenanigans, but will stick to the rules as best I can. That being said I do expect honesty for keeping track of your own health, supplies, spell slots, etc. Now I can’t pick off great ideas yet so players will be picked based off of post CONSISTENCY. New players are welcome and will be given a chance even though their post history will be limited. I’m in EST and will be looking to post 1-2 times a day, expecting the party to respond 1 time a day minimum.
Whats a fresh take on how the party “met?” there that’s something we can talk about to see how the collaboration goes.
post in the thread with your answer if you are interested please and thanks.
I don't think I'll be posting a character, but I know of a source which has rules for randomizing characters, and I think you'd find it useful. It's Giffyglyph's Darker Dungeons supplement, and you can find it on giffyglyph.com.

Sounds like an interesting idea. I'm up for it. EST as well and can post few times a day no problem...
Depending on what backstories we create and that they'll be lvl 3, assumed adventuring on their side... maybe imprisoned together by some tyrant. That's one idea.

Hoard of the Dragon Queen - Jalt Rhogar - Dragonborn Cleric (9)
I'm super interested in this, rolling dice is always fun.
party pitch idea: they don't necessarily know each other -- they all happen to be on some sort of leave for adventuring and signed up for a fun escape room, whoops, its real.

Making people roll for everything would be a really fun idea. It gets people to play different characters than they are used to and experiment with alignments. An easy start up would be everyone was individually hired on to be gaurds in a caravan. The caravan gets attacked and their benafactor gets kidnapped in the chaos and they need to rescue them. Good aligned pc's will want to do the rescue because they are good. Evil pc's will do it so that they can get payed (maybe exploit a little more money for their extra efforts). Nuetral pc's can will really go either way.
Building on Evilintentions idea of jail break. All the pc's got arrested for being involved in a bar fight and the tyrant is looking to make an example of all those involved.
Another idea for character introduction, all players are resurrected and as part of the resurrection they now have to complete a certain mission. Could be raised by an evil entity that is binding them to servitude or a good diety that needs their help. Just some more ideas for you to consider.
This sounds exactly like the sort of shenanigans I need in my life right now so count me in if there's room still. :)
I think the prison break idea people have been floating would be the most fun but the ressurected idea would lead to the most interesting character backgrounds so I'd be down for either of those ideas. If we do go the ressurected route, maybe all the characters could have been members of a famous but long dead adventure party. That way they come in knowing each other and dealing not only with the baggage of not only their prior life but also their prior relationships and shared experience.
(Side note: I will be unable to post at all from July 14-20, then I will be back to my usual, which is easily three-four posts a day)
To play off the evil tyrant idea, since that’s what everyone seems to be leaning towards, instead of the PCs being threatened, perhaps have it be random civilians being executed as a show of force. The tyrant calls the entire town together to force them to watch, and he party meets there. Good characters, obviously, want to stop this. Neutral will generally feel compelled to help, if not from the shadows, and lawful/neutral evil should feel as if it’s bad for business / dangerous / some form of selfish motivation to overthrow the tyrant, peasant execution or not. The only people that the plothook wouldn’t really work for is chaotic evil, but even then I could see them joining in because anarachy is fun (from their point of view, at least)
I am interested in this random character idea as well.
I think the 'resurrection' idea is the most plausible, with some form of 'geas' to force the various group members to work together (since there may be opposing alignments).
What if they were all from the same orphanage? Some adopted some not. That’s a reason to connect them but allow complete diversity. I like the prison idea too, just spit balling.
You could go with a mind wipe type thing. they all wake up in a strange place with little to no idea of who they are or how they got there and they try to survive and figure out who they are.
