Wondrous Item, legendary (requires attunement by a by a creature on good or neutral terms with Methis*)

The Crownplate is an artifact that predates even the founders -- originally said to be possessed by a demigod hero of ages past, it's latest references in recorded history are as Hiram Yahvol's signature artifact. Yahvol, one of the four founders of the Eight Roads market, was a powerful sorcerer, renowned archaeologist, and the primary consultant for arcane artifacts during his time. It was he who originally unearthed the Plate from its marble tomb, and he was said to have vanquished a Minotaur in the process.

The Crownplate itself is a copper-gold viscous liquid resembling molten metal. Its total volume when unattuned is roughly two liters. When attuned, the liquid will coalesce into a crown at the attuner's head. Once per long rest, as a bonus action, the attuned creature may utter a command word to activate the Crown. Upon doing so, the Crown will melt and morph into a golden breastplate that hovers just in front of the attuner. For the next minute, the attuner's AC becomes 20 regardless of other worn clothing, and cannot become lower than 20 number by any means. The attuner also has advantage on Constitution checks to maintain concentration on spells.

* When attuned by a creature on negative terms with Methis, the Crown will instead adhere to the attuner's head and begin to heat as if by the Heat Metal spell, cast at fourth level. The spell will continue for one minute, at which point attunement succeeds, or until the attuner dies.

Notes: Advantage: Constitution Ability Checks, Set: Armor Class, by a creature on good or neutral terms with Methis*
