Wondrous Item, uncommon
While wearing this circlet, you can use an action to cast the scorching ray spell with it. When you make the spell's attacks, you do so with an attack bonus of +5. The circlet can't be used this way again until the next dawn.
Notes: Damage, Combat, Headwear
Do objects that grant attacks like this proc hex?
THough i guess this object gives you a specific action-to cast that spell. So I guess it should because it gives you the action...
Huh by that reasoning, something like a Homculus or anything that can attune or wear items should be able to use that yeah?
It sure does. Hex tells you that it procs if you hit a target with an attack and Scorching Ray is certainly one.
Now I'm not really sure what you mean by a specific action to cast the spell. The circlet requires an action so that you can cast the spell. It's not something specific or extra, it's just the action you have during your turn normally.
Just to make sure, what I mean by that is: Your turn > Action > Whatever you want (attack, dodge, dash, chug a potion etc ooorrr use circlet of blasting i.e., casting scorching ray)
And yeah, by that reasoning, if a creature can attune to it should be able to use it, although I would check first with the dm and the party to see if everyone agrees on it =]
If this has 1 charge when you first acquire it yet it says you can't use it again until the next dawn how is it reset on dnd beyond? I've tried a long rest and it didn't work. Does that mean it was a one charge only or is there a way for the dawn reset to work?
I just noticed the same thing after using it. Not sure if there is an official button to use, as I didn't find one, but going into your equipment and selecting the circlet will allow you to undo the charge.
Was hoping there was some button, like the long rest option, to reset charges of worn items so you could do them all at once but I guess not since most items require you to roll for how many charges you regain. So you'd most likely have to reset them individually anyways as most worn charge items will have different amounts of charges to reset.
Thank you! That definitely is the way to do it. I was trying to press the Charge button I pressed to use to try and undo which wasn't working.
I've been using this item and it look like the Spell Attack for this Item is only listed as +2 but the description mentions it should be +5. I've managed to create a homebrew magic item based on this so it has the correct Spell Attack Modifier (+5) but was wondering why the base did not already have this included.
Hopefully this is something that can be quickly fixed in the original Magic Item.
Thanks in advance.
Same with me, but +3 (i'm guessing it's my prof bonus, because the only other value it could be is my dex mod, which makes no sense lol)
Excited to see this in play in my campaign. It was loot recovered by our paladin. I feel it is a quality option for any class with few options in ranged magical attacks.
Does this item require both verbal and somatic components to cast? My warlock has one and is grappled.
@DurianTheBard - As a long standing DM, I would say no, the spell cast from the item does not require somatic or verbal. Same as a wand or Staff.
I'm guessing you've added a n extra bonus of +5, leaving the total spell attack bonus at 5 + proficiency bonus? If I understand the description correctly, it should only be +5 flat. I found no way of fixing this.
Is your character inherently a spellcaster, and is their ability score for Int, Wis, or Cha +2?
I theorize it’s auto calculating based on your ability score and not including proficiency because you aren’t a spellcaster, but I could very well not be correct because I don’t have all the information.
