Rod, uncommon
This flat iron rod has a button on one end. You can use an action to press the button, which causes the rod to become magically fixed in place. Until you or another creature uses an action to push the button again, the rod doesn't move, even if it is defying gravity. The rod can hold up to 8,000 pounds of weight. More weight causes the rod to deactivate and fall. A creature can use an action to make a DC 30 Strength check, moving the fixed rod up to 10 feet on a success.
Notes: Utility
This thing saved me multiple times
if you dive into the stomach of a dragon and press the button, any time the dragon moves, it’s stomach will be ripped out
Use Mage hand to drop a rock on the button.
I've been thinking of making some magic items based off of this like an Immovable Spear. Pin your enemies to a wall and watch as they try feebly to reach the button.😈
I got this from a skinny guy in my dnd game, but I don't know the of the bag he uses to pull out that rod and the bag was alive to so yes if some can tell me the name of the bag pls thx.
welp, time to gather 6526 daggers.
Can a familiar activate it?
Say something got a nat 20 on their strength check but it still didn't add up to 30, would they succeed?
RAW, skill checks don't critically succeed, so no.
On that note, if something were to exert more than 4 tons of force on an activated rod (i.e. an augmented lifting capacity from combined effects like Powerful Build, enlarge/reduce, enhance ability, etc.), wouldn't that make the rod rocket in whatever direction you were pushing it?
Cast reduce and enlarge
Gumgum called he wants his immovable rod back
> Okey, so it's immoveable, but in which inertia system?
exactly. why would you assume it's only relative to the planet's rotation and not it's orbit around the star, or the star's orbit around the galactic disc, or ...
for example, earth rotates at about 600 miles per hour, orbits at around 6000 miles per hour, and moves through the galaxy at around 60000 mph.
imo, it needs to fixed to the inertial frame of the activator. so if you're riding on a dragon when it's activated, vs. standing in the same room as the dragon, it's going to give different results.
Can these be stacked within each other? like if i put another one on top and then put 16000 pounds on it?
My halfling bard used it to pole dance
I think that activating a magic item is a different mechanic than pressing a button. Magic items are generally not activated by pressing a button, as a player, you simply activate it if you are capable of doing so. In this case, the button is what is doing the activating and the Mage Hand is simply pressing that button.
Funny story - one of my characters cast hold person on a fleeing Cambion, then stuck the immovable rod in his backside, thinking that would hold it in place, while they interrogate it, but the Cambion cast plane shift to escape and took the rod with him. Everybody died laughing how absurd the situation was and the warlock was sad that he lost his favorite item in such a dumb encounter :D

get two them then push the button ends together along with a strong chain tied to both if you jump a boss they literally are just locked in place.

Immovable rod story: I had a great DM one campaign. The rule of cool applied when I didn't know since I was new to dnd. We failed to stop the summoning of an ancient black dragon, and it started flying to the town we were in previously (We were only level 7 at this point). Everyone else gave up, but my young mind had an idea. I made myself invisible and teleported onto the dragon (In one turn, not normally allowed to use two spells (action and bonus action), unless one is a cantrip). My DM had only ever once tried to ride a dragon in dnd, and that was with a ton of preparation. I just went for it. I used mage hand to bring my rod (I think it should be allowed, as it adds so many more possibilities.) underneath the dragon, inching it up to his face. The I quickly moved it right in front of the dragon and clicked the button. The dragon slammed into the rod as if it was a solid wall. Sadly, I rolled badly and my plan didn't work. I planned to make the dragon swallow it, trapping it in place, but it rolled too high. Still a fun experience how a single level 7 dragonborn wizard almost stopped an ancient black dragon.
