This staff has 10 charges and regains 1d6 + 4 expended charges daily at dawn. If you expend the last charge, roll a d20. On a 1, a swarm of insects consumes and destroys the staff, then disperses.
Spells. While holding the staff, you can use an action to expend some of its charges to cast one of the following spells from it, using your spell save DC: giant insect (4 charges) or insect plague (5 charges).
Insect Cloud. While holding the staff, you can use an action and expend 1 charge to cause a swarm of harmless flying insects to spread out in a 30-foot radius from you. The insects remain for 10 minutes, making the area heavily obscured for creatures other than you. The swarm moves with you, remaining centered on you. A wind of at least 10 miles per hour disperses the swarm and ends the effect.

I think you should be able to expend one charge to cast the infestation cantrip.
I don't think that cantrip was made when this was.
The Eldritch Blast, Elven Accuracy, quickened spell, Warlock Sorcerer in my group really loves this staff. Only uses the insect cloud part because that's all he needs.
None of those descriptors would have anything to do with this staff. Also.. 1 use per day (unless you wanna risk destroying it) doesn't seem like a great use for an attunement slot.
Sorry, I don't understand your reply to my comment. Being heavily obscured through its Insect Cloud ability can be very powerful, made more so as it will activate Elven Accuracy {ie mentioning a build which works well with the unique ability of the staff} . In addition, it only costs 1 charge to use Insect Cloud, so unless your using it as the 10th charge in the staff, there would be no risk to the staff...
I know it's not a spell component but in the description of the Giant Insect spell it states that the spell transforms certain insects WITHIN RANGE into giant versions of themselves. Do the insects themselves need to be present or could they just be summoned through the staff in this exception?
It doesn't say, so assume all criteria aside from material components is still required.
Perfect for a Mummy Lord! You can flavor the insects as scarabs
