Wondrous Item, legendary

A massive stone slab, 20 feet across and inscribed with arcane sigils that has been constructed for the purpose of augmenting and amplifying spells in mass combat. There are five positions a spellcaster can take on the circle. During the casting of a spell, every spellcaster must remain in their position on the circle. If any spellcasters leave the circle or become incapacitated, they all take xd8 psychic damage, where x is equal to the current level of the spell being cast.

Position 1 is the "Leader" position. The Leader chooses a spell of first level or higher to be cast, and casts it at a desired base level as an action. Positions 2-5 can take any one of the following actions:

  • Amplify. The spellcaster can expend a spell slot to increase the level the spell is cast at, to a maximum of ninth level. The spell slots are added together to create the higher level spell slot.
  • Area. The spellcaster can expend a spell slot to expand the area of the spell. The area increases by 20 square feet in a direction chosen by the spellcaster. This all can be in one direction or spread out across the outer border, but it all must be connected to the origin point of the spell.
  • Careful. The spellcaster can expend a spell slot and choose a number of creatures equal to 10 x the spell slot's level to protect during the casting of the spell. These creatures are unaffected by the spell's effects.
  • Defense. A spellcaster can expend a spell slot of third level or higher to cast tiny hut centered on the siege casting circle's center. The interior of the tiny hut is always dimly lit.
  • Range. The spellcaster can expend a spell slot to increase the range of the spell. The range increases by 100 feet x the level of spell slot being expended.
  • Siege. By expending a spell slot of any level, the spellcaster can grant the spell the ability to deal double damage against structures and constructs.

VARIANT: BLOOD CASTING

In lieu of enough spellcasters, any humanoid can step into the circle in Positions 2-5. Rather than expending spell slots, they can expend hit points, with every 10 hit points equaling one level of spell slot. Rather than being able to do these particular modifications effortlessly, they must make Arcana checks, with the DC equal to 10 + the level of spell slot they are trying to equal. On a failure, the damage is not dealt and the modification is not applied, and it moves onto the next position. This method can also be used by spellcasters who are out of spell slots.
