    posted a message on 3d printing & D&D

I'm hoping the new Thingmaker printer will come out soon, it loos like it's making really smooth models and it's a while lot cheaper then most printers. My da Vinci 1.0 printer was like $500 and its a low-end printer that's prone to break, so now it's collecting dust since the printing bed isn't to level and calibrations don't work which of course happened right after I managed to fix a previous problem.

I'm a huge SpoonyOne fan, so I love the Counter Monkey series. He also did a Rifftrax on the Dragon Strike boardgame VHS Vidfeo Tutorial. It's a boardgame published by TSR and the gameplay is based of D&D.

It's not a stream, but a podcast. But I can warmly recommend Major Spoilers Podcast's Critical Hit. They've been at it since 2009 in a larger ongoing story, and during "off seasons" when the DM needs a break they also test out other systems like FATE and Call of Cthulhu.

I'll do a little bit of reflavor on the NPCs to make things a bit more interesting. I've done a few changes with the premade in the Starter Set

I try not to differ. I don't usually run premades, but when I do I read then until I know it fairly well to do it as my own story. And I keep shorthand notes instead of checking the book too often as I feel it can ruin the mood if the DM got their nose down a book for the majority of the game.

I'd also love to see more higher level stuff like paragon paths or prestige classes or something of that kind, things get a bit samey when you reach a certain point in level.

posted a message on Could this weapon be made in game?

Oh sure. It's all fair game as long as the DM approves. A "bladed sai" would basically be a trident without the staff part, which as far as I know is what the trisula is.

maybe not hula hoop sized, but the circle blade do look a like the Indian chakram, and fantasy do love to enlarge weapons :P Could give it the Throw property :D

Never heard of a Italian Jitte, but I have heard of the Japanese Jitte. When you have a weapon like the Sai/Jitte that are meant as blocking attacks and entrap weapons it's not the best idea to have it as a bladed weapon, you'd ruin the edge right away, and Japanese blades might be razor sharp but look at them the wrong way and they chip. That's why in kenjutsu when blocking with your sword you should never make edge-to-edge contact.

And as the pictures hows under my post, the monouchi (middle prong) is not sharp, it's usually round or faceted. Plus if it was bladed like a stiletto or dagger, you'd seriously injury yourself the way the sai is supposed to be held; close to your arms and body.

Bladed sai are a fictional product by 80's and Pop-Culture, such as Frank Miller's Elektra and the 1987 Ninja Turtles. Or being mixed up with the Indian/Thai short-handle trident (Trisula)

posted a message on Fantasy corpses?

Most affordable would be printing out paper tokens for corpses.

There's the official Corpse Mini, it's called Fallen Villagers iirc from Savage Encounters. If you have the time, you could try to find some inexpensive minis and customize them into dead bodies.

posted a message on So... all the old settings are effectively dead?

I guess it's a good thing, that if you want setting books you'll have to buy the old ones and just use the fluff with your 5e game. I mean, just look at Sword Coast Adventurer's Guide, it got straight up copy/paste sections in it from previous editions.

I'd love getting full setting books, but if it's just gonna be a old book in a new cover with 1 or 2 Character Options and maybe 1 background. I might as well just get a secondhand book or buy the PDF on dmsguild.

I'd love to see a variant Feat rules, where you get Ability Score Increase and Feats, maybe a feat list with smaller Feats ala 3.5 or 4e.

And more Feats in general and Character Options. I'd also love to see more Backgrounds

posted a message on What fatal mistakes have your party made?

I run a 5e game for a group of friends. They like to party hard, so when we get to game it's also party time. We've had 2 sessions by now and I'm running the Starter Set game.

The group decided to split the party in the very first session, and the Tabaxi Bard with 5 in INT and Human Ranger stayed in town while the rest went to find a Goblin hideout. The Ranger and Tabaxi got of course jumped by 4 1/2CR ruffians. I let them live since it was their first time, so the rest of the group when arriving back to town found the two naked and tied up in the trees outside of the town.

Second Session, the group was going to find a band of Orcs. Inside a cave they see a bunch of large rocks big enough for a raiding party to hide behind, but they only see 1 Ogre. After doing a good deal of ranged damage to the Ogre, the Bard got confident an wanted to enage the Ogre in melee, as soon as he entered the cave he got 6 javalins through him.

Unearthed Arcana have a simpler Encounter Builder, the one in the book isn't all that great to follow.

    Quote from Jackattack72 >>

I made a ninja monk and worked all weapons into Japanese style i.e. Sai instead of dagger.

Sai are truncheons weapons not bladed or sharp pointy weapons. I don't remeber if it passed further then the Playtesting of NEXT, but the "Oriental" Flavoring of Weapons Table re-skinned Light Hammer into Sai, as they both are blunt force weapons, can be used for two-weapon fighting and both are throwing weapons.
