posted a message on Pact of the Chain - Familiar - Ideas for delivering Touch Spells

I haven't put a lot of thought or research into offensive spells through my familiar yet as I haven't gotten that far. I was looking forward to using her for touch healing spells from across the battlefield since my party doesn't have a healer beyond my bardlock.

posted a message on Bards, and why we love them

I've always avoided spell casters and when I played a ranger (my comfort zone and first love) I never bothered with the spell casting. It was intimidating to me and I found I could live without it. Another player in my new group wanted to play ranger though and with the interest of party diversity in mind, I decided the time had come to push my boundaries and force myself to roleplay something different.

Enter my Tiefling bard, raised from infancy by the tribal elves that pulled him from the burning wreckage of an otherwise decimated slaver's convoy. Though not especially gregarious in bard terms, he was still a mostly joyful child with a knack for creating and telling stories. Wanderlust and curiosity eventually seized his spirit, so he set out for adventure. His career got off to a fatal start however, as he was killed early on by an evil spirit while his first true party had inadvertently entered a sub-plane of their existence.

Seeing their tribe's adopted son passing between worlds, the spirits of fallen warriors and leaders snatched him from the clutches of death and returned him to the realm of the living. He was now changed though. He had become part warlock with a duty to complete tasks that would bring honor to the tribe.

posted a message on Find Steed Item

Thanks for the replies, all. I'll be looking into creating a custom magic item for sure because I was enjoying the thought of my character having his own magic mount as well. Guess I'll see how it plays out. With as infrequently as we play it'll be a year before I make it happen.

posted a message on Find Steed Item

One of the players in my group is the GM's wife. In trying to encourage her to give D&D a try he agreed to let her have what amounts to a vanity pet unicorn. She REALLY wanted a unicorn and that's how he sold her on playing. Everyone is cool with it as it has no in game effect, even if it is maybe a little silly. She's playing a ranger for what it's worth.

I'm playing a bardlock (Ranger is always my first choice, but I wanted to keep the GM's character unique for her to keep her interest) using the homebrew patron The Wild Hunt which has Find Steed on its spell list. My question is: How would I go about gifting the spell to her so she could have a unicorn steed? My thought was something along the lines of a Figurine of Wonder, that is to say an item of some sort infused with the spell. What steps would need to be taken to do that? Or is there a better way to go about it?

posted a message on The Wild Hunt Patron

Has anyone played a warlock of The Wild Hunt Patron? It sounds awesome and my GM has approved it, but we only play every couple of months, so I haven't had the chance to do anything with my bardlock yet. With The Raven Queen having just been released I'm tempted to change while I still have a chance. Any thoughts on either?

I'm having a similar dilemma. I can't find a picture of a bardlock that matches what I've imagined in my mind. Good luck to you!

posted a message on Bard instruments. The weirder the better.

I seriously considered rolling with bagpipes, but my DM was really gungho about the classic bard with a lute, so I gave in.

I also believe "voice" should be seriously considered. I almost went with the concept of a bardbarian, strolling through battle singing and swinging. One day...

posted a message on Bard College Discussion

I've yet to select my bard's college and just multi-classed into warlock (part of saving the character from death in our group's first session). I've loved the combo so far and am only struggling with what order to take levels / whether to go for the college or pact selection first.

posted a message on how can i sell the idea for a bard ?

It's going to be really difficult if the players have no interest in supporting one another or truly roleplaying. Giving opponents disadvantage with Vicious Mockery can be great fun if the group is actually emoting what their characters are saying. Bardic Inspiration can be very helpful too. I was very pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed being the player to tip the scales, but not actually swing the sword.

posted a message on Vicious Mockery

Someone happened to post this picture of a 3-column, 20 row insult generator to a Facebook D&D group the day of my first session playing my first spellcaster (Bard). It was a lot of fun to use, and use it I did.

posted a message on Multi-Classing with Warlock

I'm playing a Bardlock currently. I'd originally created him as Tiefling Bard with no thoughts of multi-classing. However, after having spent more time and effort researching and creating him, both mechanically and narratively, than the other six players combined (probably; we weren't exactly tracking our hours), he was killed during the first session rather fantastically. He was a hit of a character and everyone enjoyed him immensely. I realized how much I enjoyed the spellcasting that I'd avoided in years prior. So I came up with a pitch for the GM where the character becomes a warlock as well, swearing some sort of pact that he and I would agree to later. I love the concept and can't wait to continue on with it.

Incidentally, the GM agreed to let me take the homebrew Otherworldly Patron The Wild Hunt, but I'm considering changing over to the Unearthed Arcana The Raven Queen.
