It is worth noting if you are the DM you may choose to addd as an additional effect if creatures are good or evil but RAW you will just see the creature types in the description.

posted a message on Do you think that the Legendary Bundle gives a discount on all future products?

I think a big point BadEye made though that the OP has not recognised is also the legendary bundle is great for players and DMs but not everyone will use a digital map pack especially if they play with minis. Everything added to the bundle raises its price by the products price and it would be super unfair if nice little additions that are not the books we need to play the game were included raising the price and making the bundle less accessable to future buyers.

Especially with the wealth of books it looks like we are getting this year.

posted a message on The Mystic

I feel like the telepathy ability is really cool but possibly overpowered. The wording says creature but does that mean you cant communicate with other players? Because if you can communicate with other players that would be over powered as any player who could use something like the message cantrip would be able to speak with the mystic perfectly without ever actually being heard by anyone else. I feel the mystic could use some minor tweaks and little balancing but other than that I think it's awesome.

Players are counted as creauturesbut not monsters. It is not really broken if your players are being creative with things like message (which is not silent they still have to say the thing out loud) or with an old one warlock who has the same ability at lv 1, which basically means is like having two old one warlock in your party which again this would come up. Then your players are being creative and using their abilities, which is cool and should not be frowned upon.

posted a message on The Mystic

Honestly and am running a campaign with a lv8 mystic. It entirely depends on how you run your game if the mystic is OP or not.

If you run a camapign where there is a single comabt encounter per long rest mystic will be OP simple as. If you run it where there will be many fights per long rest they may start to go underpowered.

The main reason is Psi Points vs spells slots:

Psi points are more versitile than spell slots, while the abilities each a wizard or mystic of equal level can put out over time is roughly equal, the way spell slots work wizard is more a constant damage that can be sustained over a good number of encounter and rounds. Psi points by their nature however mean that mysticss power curve is all over the show they will do the highest damage if done right in a single attack but at that point especially if you put them against the wrong creature they are then low on rescources and of very little use for the res tof the fight. My players psion went for the nomad tree which makes them mainly tracer with alot of attacks miss and they move backwards but each time they save themselves cost them points, issue is that is great but if you burn points every time you are attacks either they dont use them to attakc or they burn even more to stay alive, generally my psion reaches half way before hitting long rests with no psi points and relying on his guns to try and survive while the rest of the party does cool shit.

Key thing is YOU have to ensure you read through the psion abilities carefully ensure they remeber psi limits etc. Most the time i have heard psions go nuts is much like with spellcasters people not reading the Ts&Cs on their abilites. Take for example the above tracer manuever. Now it says you return to where you were the privous round and so the attack misses, issue is as I have repeatedly had to remind my player if you did not move you may tracer rewind but you rewind on the spot meaning guess what the attack still hits.

If you are a one combat encounter than one long rest kind of DM however some advice on things to change:

Alter psi limits if they are reduced their burst capabilities are limited and at that point they even out more like a regular spell caster. Though do beware certain abilities do ned a certain level of psi limit.

Readd greater and lesser domains, so each of those large psychic power domains that they get used to be split between lesser and greater and you could only take a greater if you were the appropriate school of psionics, bring that back and you limit combo powers, you could also say you have to take all your core domain powers BEFORE you can take other schools though for this beware the soul knife has no domains so you may want to make a ruling there.

Bar that just look at what they can do and be creative with ways to make them drain their powers like above where my players keeps trying to dodge the attacks made against him.

posted a message on What would you like to see from 5e in 2019?

A thing to remeber is WotC have said they dont plan on rereleaseing their older 5E books with alterations because it seperates the player base likewise they will not release a PHB2 and similar as they can confuse the playerbase with "so does this replaces PHB 1 or do I need both?" The big thing about D&D 5E is you JUST need the PHB to start playing eveything else is for people who are invested and want more options.

I would love to see Planescape, I would also like to see because we have been told they would be coming out together Darksun with the psion class and psionic subclass options for existing classes. I would also like to see development of the Ranger alternate features rules they showed off on the Happy Fun Hour.

We know we are getting something based around sea based adventures thi year and the artificer comes out next month. We also have been told no Spelljammer for 2019. So from the small glimpses we have seen It already looks like it is going to be an interesting year.

However, i do have a question. since there is new ownership, does that mean you have to get a new license agreement with WOTC?
Will this merger also allow for either inclusion of 3rd party products or even other's (pathfinder/starfinder/77Worlds)?

Based on the Dev Update last thursday - No the deal with WotC remains unchanged.
As for the second bit the ownership of Twitch/Amazon never from what I gaather prevented 3rd party deals nor should the new ownership. THe thing that has meant we have not seen it yet is probably alot of behind the curtain legal discussions about licensing, right, amount to charge, etc, etc. When it comes to other RPGs new ownership will not change  that the product is D&DBeyond while I do not know I would imagine, that they do not want to wrestle other RPG systems (or even D&D editions) when they are still working on so much content for this one.

I may be wrong not on the team but based on past dev updates and posts on the forums this seems like what is the case.

I just hope I do not have to make a new account for DDB and Twitch as I use Twitch for my World of Warcraft add ons as well as DDB I hope that I can just use the account info I already have without changing anything.

Due to the fact they are keeping the twitch login, the DDB part should be ok. (Assuming you give permission for the data carryover) As for the curse mods on the twitch app am in a similar bind and have no idea what is happening with that.

For one, what happens if someone else buys the company? We'll have to go through the same thing again and then just trust that Fandom will purge my data from their servers?

If you are an EU citizen (and even some cases if not if company decides to extend GDPR rights to non EU customers) you may request a copy of all information that company has on you. They must then within a set time frame provide that data, you can do this to see if they have any data and if what they have is worth removing. You also have the right to request any company delete their information about you.  A helpful video about your rights under GDPR can be found here, while the video is aimed at video game developer and players the fact remains GDPR doesntdiscriminate in the type of company if it has info about EU citizens in a digital format.

You realise they are not adding ads right? And the campaign mangement tools we have seen being developed (2 dev updates back we got shown wireframes for the encounter buildiers).  Nor are they dealing away information to third parties fandom is merging hence why they get the data its not going anywhere else, there are no third parties involved.

posted a message on Amazon app

From the Adam Bradford (Badeye) AMA on Monday

    Question:

Is there any movement on getting the D&D Beyond app into the Amazon appstore? I know we can sideload Google Play to get DDB onto a Fire tablet, but it would be nice to have a native app available.

We want to do this and I imagine we'll see it in 2019. We'll share more as we're able.

posted a message on D&D Beyond in SPANISH?

From the Adam Bradford (Badeye) AMA on Monday:

    Question:

Hi ! I know a lot of fellow DMs would like to know if the dndbeyond products will be localized for different languages. With the "official" translations under way, one would hope so. So, my question is as follow:

    1) Do you plan to make dndbeyond translated products

    2) Will the purchase be separate for each language aka do I have to buy it all again

Thanks for your hard work, I love dndbeyond as a DM, my oldschool players can't get enough of it since they (begrudgingly!) tried it and I would like to keep enjoying it in my beloved native French :)

    1) Yes, we want to make this happen and are figuring out implementation details.

    2) I can't share the details for this yet, but I believe the solution will be entirely reasonable for the community. I'll share more as I'm able to do so.

An issue here is for people saying you dont want to share it with Fandom is once the merger is completed curse and fandom will have the same info as they will be one company, if my understanding is correct.

Effectively there is no way for fandom not to get your data unless you delete your account. This is not due to curse giving your data to a third party it is the third party is becoming one company with the first party and they are checking if you are ok with knowing that this party will access you data as they are now one with curse.

Basically we cannot talk about fandom and curse as two seperate companies for this discusssion because they are going to be a single company. Which means you continue treating them as curse or decide to treat them as fandom.

Feel free someone more legal minded to correct this if it is incorrect.

posted a message on What would happen to a person if they were able to peer into the mind of a Great Old One?

At the end of the day as the DM it is your port of call, you could say they need to make a save i a player did it and if they survived they gained a boon but if not bad things happen.

A thing to consider is that the ideas of Old Ones are based of the Cuthulu mythos. With them you would never die but even learning they exist drove the individual insane. Looking into their minds would do that 100x mainly because the way they exist let alone think is entirely alien to the human mind and our minds break trying to piece it together in a form the brain could understand.

Now saying that these enteties were in the mythos of great power and often could warp creatures or spawn new ones, so if someone looking into their mind, after going insane, they could if the god thought the ant on the ground that is the human was worth any attention maybe would alter their form. But as a warning the idea of the cuthulu mythos is humanity does not matter and is powerless in the greater universe full of entities who we are but ants to and our want and desires and feeling matter not to the uncaring void. So not great for the whole heroes saving the day ideals that D&D can bring if you went that route with old ones.

On that note how I have DMed them in the past is the player will gain a number of indefinite madnesses the number of times based of i think it was 5 high dc wisdom saving throws. To reflect what they learned they gain the legend lore spell (cannot recall if i set a limit though it did do psychic damage as they access a heavy broken set of thoughts and memories of their time in there) and you could totally warp their body.

But as I said there is no hard or fast rule for these things like your idea sounds awesome. My only comment would be what seperates these great old ones from gods. As traditionally great old ones are unfathomable eldritch horros who tend to work on very basse levels interacting through cults though they use them more as tools then people they trade with (nyarlathotep being a major exception not to the using as tools part more the they are more akin to eldritch loki than some of the others who are more forces fo nature in attitude) while gods are the more uber powerful entities you treat with and bestow gifts to those they deal with. Again not saying dont do what you are doing but may be a question worth asking.

But a TLDR answer would be as DM your game your rules if you want a result based off people accessing the mind of an old one go for that result.
