posted a message on Anstruth harp

Received this as a gift and noticed it has Heal Wounds @ level 5.  I am a level 1 Bard (multi-classing into it).  Now is the instrument itself casting the spell or does it allow me to do it? (since I don't have the spell slots for it, will it work for me)

posted a message on Best "Offcial" or close to Magic Item for Warlock 5

He said I can ANYTHING.  I tend to hang back in a fight and used ranged attacks and Innvokations.  (I tend to hoard my spell slots) and in non combat, I act like a Rogue constantly searching for traps/items I can salvage.  Also I'm not officially a Level 5 Warlock Until we play so I could multiclass.

Items I've looked at: Robe of the Archmagi , Anstruth harp/INSTRUMENT OF THE BARDS (since we lost our only healer), or the Ring of Three Wishes (I already told him I'd wish for unlimited wishes and he didn't balk)

posted a message on Best "Offcial" or close to Magic Item for Warlock 5

OK, for a couple weeks now, my group had not played for several reasons (all players cancelled last minute tonight and everyone forgot their D&D stuff last week) but I showed and was prepared to play so he is giving me any 1 magical item., preferably "official" so it's not broken  Any suggestions?   Or maybe a Homebrew that is a slight mod.  I am the black sheep of the group.

posted a message on DMing with an evil party member...

Now from the description, I wouldn't even say the "evil" character is evil, more selfish that anything.  I never really declared a class though my group says I'm evil. We are running Dragon Hoard and I serve Tiamat (no one knows) so I killed a dragon cultist I captured instead of letting him be questioned (Tiamit said to).  I faithfully serve and I get along with my group most of the time, the only true "betrayal" I'll do is when we finally face Tiamat, I'll admit I serve her and I will not help them fight her and will attack them if so ordered (I will ask them to serve her her instead of fighting her

posted a message on Trapped Creature

Now I know it's not as powerful, but we fought a Mimic (that took out 1/2 our group) and when it was wounded enough to try and escape, I approached it and offered to heal & protect it if it became a weapon for me.  Got a Nat 20 on my persuasion and now have a 2d8 sword that change eat people :)

posted a message on Lots of cantrips

1st off, I'm sick as a dog, so if things make no sense, you know why

Someone suggested the Dragon Path for a Sorcerer, I just multi-classed my warlock and chose the option that lets you pick spells from other classes. (Currently trying to kill out group's Paladin) So I wanted healing word/cure wounds to help.

Are their advantages going dragon over getting the cleric spells?  I serve Tiamat as my fiend

posted a message on Funniest D20 moments

How about some stories of the funniest things people have pulled off on  a D20

Our group hadn't played in 3 weeks so everyone but me and the DM had forgot that the treasure chest in the next room was a Mimic so one of the guys decided to go and loot it, of course I did remind him and he backed off.  So as everyone is leaving I walk up to the Mimic (who was severally wounded from earlier battles) and I made it an offer, become a weapon and serve me and I'd heal and protect it,  and my DM spit out his drink when it landed on the 20

posted a message on 2 hour game ideas for a group of 11 year olds

Not sure if you still need ideas, but if you want to keep it simpler.  How about doing something similar to Disney's Tangled, make the quest about trying to find proof she is the princess and her friends are trying to get her onto the throne.  And if the mom is willing, a friend of mine did this for his son's B-day, have her find a chest and roll a D20 to see what her present is (He rolled a crit miss)

    posted a message on Nets

Non-Combat: you can load it with gear and pull it if you are carrying to much, or if you have a fallen teammate, drag them in it

If your a jerk like me, and funnel your enemy into a corridor, place the net near you so they have to climb over to get to you, giving you ab extra round of attacks

If your can knock someone prone, use it to pin them down, or depending on it's size, 2 people grab a side and charge the enemy, scooping them up like fish.  (Depending on attack order, after they are scooped up, find a way to secure the net so they have to escape it)

posted a message on Mold Earth and Shape Water HELP!

Yes I know some of these ideas might be considered a little dark, but it's either me or them and it's not gonna be me

    1) Now as far as accessing water.  Does it have to be pure water, or could it be mixed in something.  IE, can I pull it out of someone's beer (BITTER BEER FACE!)

    2) if yes to #1, could we in theory pull the water  of an enemies body if they are bleeding, or from another source (mud)

    3) It says you can't freeze the water if someone is in it, BUT what if you moved a large enough quantity of it in a spinning ball into someones mouth, could I freeze it then so it's throat is sealed?

    4) I know you can animate it, so could you make it a spinning circle and place it against the stone on the floor/wall in the square and use it to break down the stone/mortar/etc to get underneath it

posted a message on 1st time DM for 1st time players

The feeling alive makes sense.  Plus if you know your about to die, it's gonna make you think, maybe running head 1st into battle isn't the best plan and you change your tactics.

Of course my team knows death, we just went level 4 and 3 of the six were 1 point from permanent death.  Just wait till we run into Tiamat (I'm a warlock in service to a fiend, they just don't who she is. {It's Tiamat herself} Oh fun times!!)

posted a message on How powerful does a patron need to be?

My original idea for my warlock was that she was forced to serve a demon that her sister had summoned and it held her prisoner and if she didn't serve, he'd send her to hell.

Now power isn't a huge deal, Think of this idea: You sought revenge against a local noble who dishonored a family member and the fiend caused them to have such horrible nightmares that it made them confess to their family and they were disowned and now travel the countryside trying to survive.  Being able to cause nightmares and nothing else wouldn't qualify you as being uber powerful, but it did as you ask, so you happily serve it

posted a message on Mold Earth and Shape Water HELP!

It was funny to see this post since I was just looking @ taking Magic Initiate and these 2 cantrips.

Now someone tell me if these ideas are possible:

    1) So enemy is in the hole, if you filled the hole with water, since the hole is loose earth, would it not become mud, thus making it more difficult to climb out or they could sink into it and become trapped.

    2) If they are in the hole, could you not freeze the water over the top of it like a lid, sealing them in and suffocating them?  bypassing the no freezing them in ice rule?

    3) now would most DM's allow a player to use them in conjunction to make mud and difficult terrain?

posted a message on Sneaky casting

Since I cant draw on here :)

OK, assume a 5x5 grid.  Your companions are in grid A1 & A4, Enemies in B 2-3 & you the spell caster are in E5.

Now assuming that your teammates have already attacked and you haven't, would not the enemy be focused on those who are adjacent.  If so, if they are engaged in combat, if your casting a spell, shouldnt their attention be on who is in their face?  So logically, a spellcaster should be ignored until the 1st shot is made (similar to having advantage when flanking
