The dire bear lives deep in the wilderness, far from civilization. Their thick fur naturally alters its pigmentation to suit the bear best in different environments. The dire bear isn't known to torpor in the harsh winter months, although it has been witnessed when food is extremely scarce. Powerful and dauntless, the dire bear tirelessly patrols its territory throughout the year. A dire bears territory will often span dozens of miles and most other predators keep their distance when they know the dire bear is active. Because of this lack of predation from other beasts, the dire bear is usually content with its supply of food from its territory. Persistent scarcity of food will force the dire bear to leave its territory in search of food or enter a deep torpor. The dire bear has been known to track down creatures extensively once it has caught the scent of its prey, and often hunts migratory patterns. If a creature poses a threat, it doesn't bother backing down from a fight. Otherwise, this beast often ignores lesser creatures when not agitated or searching for food.
