Dive Attack. If the aarakocra is flying and dives at least 30 feet straight toward a target and then hits it with a melee weapon attack, the attack deals an extra 3 (1d6) damage to the target.
Spellcasting. The aarakocra is a 5th-level spellcaster. Its spellcasting ability is Intelligence (spell save DC 13, +5 to hit with spell attacks). It has the following wizard spells prepared:
Cantrips (at will): booming blade, gust, light, lightning lure
1st level (4 slots): absorb elements, expeditious retreat, fog cloud, Tenser's floating disk (ritual), thunderwave
2nd level (3 slots): gust of wind, misty step, skywrite (ritual)
3rd level (2 slots): haste, lightning bolt
Multiattack. The aarakocra makes three attacks.
Knife. Melee or Ranged Weapon Attack: +4 to hit, reach 5 ft. or range 20/60 ft., one target. Hit: 4 (1d4 + 2) piercing damage.
Talon. Melee Weapon Attack: +4 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 4 (1d4 + 2) slashing damage.
Shortsword. Melee Weapon Attack: +4 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 5 (1d6 + 2) piercing damage.
Whirlwind Attack. The aarakocra makes a melee attack against any number of creatures within 5 feet of it.
Deflective Gale. If the aarakocra is targeted with a ranged attack, it can give disadvantage on all ranged attacks against it until its next turn.
Description
Elite soldiers from the plane of elemental air, the aarakocra breath of aaqa fight with a combination of martial expertise and arcane mastery.
Not bad. There are a few things that need to be done before I'll be willing to call it good, though:
I won't bother asking you to italicize the commas after the spells, but if you do that and everything else, the monster goes straight to great.
Thank you so much for the feedback. I implemented your edits and resubmitted a new version.
I realized after it was initially accepted, the ritual tags looked bizarre and sloppy. I removed the spells altogether for consistency with the number of spells a wizard could prepare. I considered leaving them in since a monster stat block doesn't necessarily work that way, but the spells weren't too vital and could always be added in at DM desecration.
Great catch on the perception expertise. I don't believe I would have ever noticed that.
