Shapechanger. The werebear can use its action to polymorph into a Large bear-humanoid hybrid or into a Large bear, or back into its true form, which is humanoid. Its statistics, other than its size and AC, are the same in each form. Any equipment it is wearing or carrying isn't transformed. It reverts to its true form if it dies.
Keen Smell. The werebear has advantage on Wisdom (Perception) checks that rely on smell.
Multiattack. In bear form, the werebear makes two claw attacks. In humanoid form, it makes two greataxe attacks. In hybrid form, it can attack like a bear or a humanoid.
Bite (Bear or Hybrid Form Only). Melee Weapon Attack: +7 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 15 (2d10 + 4) piercing damage. If the target is a humanoid, it must succeed on a DC 14 Constitution saving throw or be cursed with werebear lycanthropy.
Claw (Bear or Hybrid Form Only). Melee Weapon Attack: +7 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 13 (2d8 + 4) slashing damage.
Greataxe (Humanoid or Hybrid Form Only). Melee Weapon Attack: +7 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 10 (1d12 + 4) slashing damage.
Oh bother...
I wish I knew how to add this to one of my character sheets on the app.
Same, my DM okayed a Werebear Beasthide Shifter Totem Warrior Barbarian who can spend a turn and a half hulking out for some huge damage and defense buffs.
Oh my gosh yes XD
You can add it in the Extra tab of the character sheet, under the Wildshape option. I'm currently playing a Bloodhunter Order of the Lycan and he full on transforms into a bear during full moons. Our Tabaxi bard enjoys riding around on my back during said transformations.
Especially after it describes being one via birth...great back story for druid, ranger, or barb. I added this for my druid but won't make it available until he's 8th lvl.
Imagine a PC being afflicted with Neutral Goodness, and occasionally being forced onto Neutral Good rampages.
Neutral Good Rampage seems a bit counteractive, I think Chaotic Good rampages seem more fitting. The whole shtick of lycanthropy is the primal, animalistic instinct coming through during the hunt, a fool moon, etc.
I feel like they should have less heath in human form... isn’t it easier to kill a human as opposed to a bear or half bear?
The problems as far as for lycanthropy and vampirism it is the most broken rule in the game and WC refuses to fix it
tired of dungeon Masters who say you cannot be a werewolf , werebears ,weretigers , dungeons & dragons game rules , a player is affected by lycanthropy all after failling a Constitution saving throw becomes infected or cursed . dm's saying you cannot play on this one because it is not a class or a race , news flash lycanthropy is a Curse , vampirism is a disease
Dungeons & dragons need to fix that rule , untill they do because they are too lazy lol, I have created a feat , for all of you dungeon Master's and players Giving lycanthropy and vampirism as a feat ,(curse or disease) according to basic rules Manuals skill and appropriate spells . So player and dungeon Master's may fully enjoy being a werewolf or vampire etc with the weaknesses and strengths according to basic rules as it should be regardless of class and race , a curse does not change your alignment , a curse not change your belief or fath and personal convention , if you was a good person before the curse you will still be a good person after , your just CURSED
if you are having trouble killing these , used strategy and just use remove curse , since it is a curse, you cast remove curse on a werewolf werebears weretigers , the curse is removed , no more lycanthrop same as vampire , use remove disease
Reverie_Nicole can you share your write up for the feat?
Our group found a vial of lycanthropy blood and one of our member became a werewolf. A few games later three of us drank her blood and go the lycanthropy change but or DM let us roll for either a roll wererat, werebear, weretiger, werewolf, or werebor. The DM let us chose between being able to learn how to use our class abilities as a hybrid but have our low stats of our original race or be able to change into our hybrid race with the above stats but will be in the hybrid/animal form until we task a long rest. As bad ass as it would be to be a Werebear warlock but having 135 hp is even better.
welcome to TravelerCon!
This is simply not true.
Curses and diseases can and do change your personality.
As on how great it's extent, it's left to the DM and players to decide, but the rules do mention the choices one has when dealing with lycanthrophy.
To put it simply, the curse forces you to assume this form and give in to it's instinct. Since you are still intelligent, you understand that the curse is probably evil.
And a disease very easily turns your personality inside and out.
IN fact, poisons can do that too. And for these ,there are real world examples, for instance mercury poisoning can and will change your personality. Diseases affect your mental state and health. Injuries, toxic material ,etc all can have an effect on who or what you are.
Basically both vampirism and lycanthropy is a battle inside of the character between their metahumanity and the curse/disease.
If you remove this, you remove the essence of these curses.
I just made a firlbolg werebear druid as an NPC. Gave him Guardian of Nature.
They are neutral good because Werebears fight off their curse and prefer to remain in isolation, maybe guard nature. They only pass down their curse to willing apprentices.
A fresh werebear might still go on a rampage.
Yah, that’s exactly how i usually interpret in my settings (to be honest, that’s the only way it makes sense).
I just find it amusing that a RAW interpretation could consider it a “Neutral Good” curse.
The question of the hero-turned-monster, is really fascinating.
I admit that I can really see the appeal of just saying to a vampire that’s managed to keep its soul, “your personality is fine, but now you’re going to starve if you don’t bite someone daily”, and seeing how they reconcile that with their personality and ideals.
But, with lycanthropes specifically, there’s something uniquely poignant about the loss of control to the beast within. The big problem seems to be how easy it is for a player who didn’t sign up for this to pick it up, and that there isn’t much wiggle-room between “resisting” and “succumbed to” the curse.
It makes itself central when you are unprepared for it.
Just use wild shape and and say it is your werebear form instead of a creature you have seen.
If you replace the climb with swim, make it immune to cold weather/cold water effects in bear form, and give in hold breath in bear form, Were-polarbear!
