Homebrew Krymmen Race Details

Krymmen are a solitary race of unknown origin. Very little knowledge is available of them due to their secretive, predatory nature, but they’ve only been seen alone. 

A Krymman is a four armed, four legged  scaled reptilian capable of becoming  almost completely invisible at will by altering the color and texture of their flesh to match their surroundings. 

It is suspected that males possess a fleshy ridge atop their heads while females lack this, but much information on their kind is conjecture.

They are known generally to be a violent, unsocial people, hiding from other sentient peoples or ambushing weaker beings. Those who have seen their slithering forms and lived report a strong feeling of unnatural fear. 

With their four hands and opposable toes, krymmen are remarked upon for their climbing speed and dexterity. 

Though their sight is thought to be poor, they seem relatively unhindered by it, leading to a debate regarding what they use to compensate. Many believe that, considering their seemingly reptilian nature, they may, like snakes, have heat sensitive pits that allow them to perceive their prey and the world around them. A small group of scholars have concluded that they must echolocate. A third dominant group of scholars theorize a powerful sense of smell is what allows them to sense the approach of enemies and track prey.

Camouflage

As a bonus action on your turn, you modify the color and texture of your flesh to match your surroundings. You keep your shape. You do not become another object or creature, and you do not become invisible. 

This effect ends, reverting to your natural flesh if you move/ are moved to a location that your camouflage does not match. 

Armour, clothing, bags, and anything you hold do not camouflage with you,

Disadvantage to attacks on your character while camouflaged. 

Advantage to attacks made by your character when camouflaged. 

+10 to stealth while  camouflaged and still. (DMs discretion) 

 

Discerning Smeller

while krymmen can see the full color range, more colors even than humans, their long distance sight tends to be rather blurry. Their strong sense of smell allows them to perceive the world even in darkness. 

This sense also alerts them to the approach of enemies. A krymman cannot be surprised by a downwind threat.

Disadvantage to perception rolls or any rolls heavily reliant on sight. 

Advantage to perception relying on smell, any rolls reliant on smell

Unarmored defense

While you are not wearing armor, your AC equals 10+ dexterity + constitution
