Homebrew Ælgori Race Details

Ælgori are often shy and curious, native to a distant world mostly covered by water, and at home more in the tropical depths than on the sunny beaches. Ælgori tend to be cautious and hesitant to try new things. Many of them found their way onto other worlds through magical gateways or powerful teleportation spells. Usually non-violent, Ælgori would rather submit and try to find a peaceful solution, but when none can be found will try to subdue their foes either through magic, or by grappling them or knocking them unconscious and swallowing them whole to either provide nourishment or to safely move them unharmed into a prison cell. Ælgori skin ranges from blues and greens to coral patches and black. They tend to always be moist and are covered in soft ridged skin with eyes that can range from black to white, and all colors in between. It is common for Ælgori eyes to have random patches of color thrown in.

They can hold swallowed objects and creatures safely inside their main cavity, but can leak stomach acid into it at will to clean it or dissolve larger items.An Ælgori stomach has an additional organ like a tentacle or tongue that can grab objects from the main cavity and pull them inside and is roughly the same size as a human's.

On their homeworld, Ælgori live in large underwater cities made of marble, and living things such as corals. Elsewhere they are usually nomads, exploring and learning about other worlds, and sometimes groups will settle down and create a colony offworld in a lake or ocean, but sometimes also in damp caves near a body of water. 

Ælgori Names

Ælgori often have multiple names, not representing family lines but adding new titles to mark milestones in their lives. Alora may have been given her name at birth, but after gaining a better understading of the world around her may rename herself Drocala Alora, then gain a new first name for a heroic deed, Abolisher Dracola Alora. Titles given are often treated as a name or they create a variation of it to use as a new name. Older Ælgori may have dozens of names strung together and while the most recent is preferred will often answer to them all.

Ælgori are descended from aquatic predators and that heritage is reflected in their abilities.

Your Constitution increases by 1 and your Wisdom by 1.

Age

Ælgori mature physically the same as humans but are often mentally mature by age 12, and can live to be around 130 years old.

Alignment

Ælgori are usually lawful and tend towards neutral or good allignment, but there have been known to be many strong personalities among them that range from chaotic good eccentrics  to chaotic evil with a thirst for power and domination.

Size

Ælgori are the same size as humans, usually ranging from 5 to 6.5 feet

Speed

Your base walking speed is 30 feet, matched equally by your swim speed.

Darkvision

As a result of your natural habitat, you can see in dim light within 60 feet of you as if it were bright light, and in darkness as if it were dim light. You can’t discern color in darkness, only shades of gray.

Amphibious

You can breathe both air and water.

Swallow

You can make a bite attack (1d4 bludgeoning) against a Medium or smaller target you are grappling. If the attack hits or the target is unconscious or willing, the target is swallowed, and the grapple ends. The swallowed target is blinded and restrained, it has total cover against attacks and other effects outside of you, and if you choose, everything you have swallowed takes 2 (1d4) acid damage at the start of each of your turns. You can have only one creature swallowed at a time and swallowed objects count towards your carrying capacity. If you fall unconscious, a swallowed creature is no longer restrained and can escape with an athletics check equal to 8 + your proficiency bonus.
