Homebrew Weaveborn Race Details

This unique race was long ago touched by powerful forces of magic, and transmuted into a race completely meant for spellcasting.  They used to be elves before their transformation.  They are very uncommon, and only tend to live near powerful magical sources.  They look like elves with blue skin, and mystical designs all over them.  There are two subraces of the weaveborn—the sageborn and the surgeborn.

Weaveborn Traits

As a weaveborn, you gain the following traits:

Ability Score Increase

Weaveborn all are very physically weak, as an aftereffect of the magical energies they were exposed to.  This magic bolsters their health, however.  Your Strength score decreases by 3, and your Constitution score increases by 1.

Age

Weaveborn physically mature slightly faster than humans, being fully developed at the age of 16.  However, their mental development continues for at least a century, like their elven ancestors.  The magic in their blood sustains them, allowing them to live to as old as 800.

Alignment

Weaveborn gravitate strongly towards chaotic alignments, the storm within them allowing for no restrictions.  They are often neutral, but could be evil or good depending on the circumstances.

Size

Weaveborn are often on the smaller side, ranging from 5 feet to just below 6.  Your size is Medium.  Due to their frail build, they usually weigh less than 100 lbs.

Speed

Your base walking speed is 30 feet.

Darkvision

The magic flowing through your veins allows you to see in dark conditions.  You can see in dim light within 60 feet of you as if it were bright light, and in darkness as if it were dim light. You can’t discern color in darkness, only shades of gray.

Keen Senses

Your elven heritage sharpens your senses. You have proficiency in the Perception skill.  In addition, your inborn magic allows you to see the ebb and flow of magic.  You can cast detect magic at will without requiring material components.

Magical Blood

The magic running through your veins grants you immunity to the poisoned, and resistance to poison damage.

Innate Magic

Your subrace determines the majority of spells you can cast.  However, all weaveborn can cast prestidigitation and mage hand at will, requiring no material components.  Your spellcasting ability is determined by your subrace.
