Homebrew Android Race Details

Built as mindless (not counting their AI) automations for labor, service, and soldiers; the androids developed sentience from a side effect of magical feedback merging with their AI creating a new kind of creature. As mortal-made constructs, many think they are little more than property; however, others have noted their ability to develop individual personalities and thoughts as something completely separate from other constructs, making the androids no different from the living races. Androids themselves have varying opinions on the matter of their being.

Flesh And Metal

Due to the android’s shape and general size, they can be easily mistaken for a human at a distance or in poor lighting. A closer inspection, however, reveals veins of circuitry, that glows while at full power, that mesh with an android’s flesh to reveal a totally synthetic body. Androids are made up of bio-organic tissue and super-strong flexible synthetic metals. Androids do not need to breathe, but because of the organic tissue used in their construction they need to eat and sleep like any living creature. Since androids are constructed they do not reproduce the way humans do, therefore have no need of gender, and normally have a sexless body shape. In personality, some androids seem more masculine or feminine, but others judge the same android in different ways. Most androids seem unconcerned with the nature of gender. Androids are roughly the same size as humans; on average, they are 6 feet tall and weigh 200 pounds. Some androids were crafted to look like the other races, but they were expensive and are extremely rare.

Mechanical Network

Androids are scattered and inconsistent, consisting of isolated groups, with a very thin network of sporadic connections. They have little society or personality of their own, and tend to emulate those around them, often in a slightly unsettling or off manner. The one thing linking nearly all androids is their dedication to whatever task they have taken up or are assigned; depending on the individual, this can border on single-mindedness. Some older, more world-worn androids lack such absolute focus, but most are still determined beings when they are called upon.

Circuitry And Soul

While androids can, and sometimes do, wrestle with matters of morality, most choose not to, either following another's lead or taking the path that is most likely to ensure their continued survival. Likewise, androids are not often followers of deities or churches. This is due more to the fact that during construction, AI programing of religion was kept to a minimum, mainly to sell them to customers regardless of religious affiliation.

Exploration and Adventure

Like humans, androids adventure for many reasons: gaining power, wealth, or fame. With their quick thinking under fire, they make excellent rogues or fighters. While their affinity for machines also makes them excellent inventors and researchers.

Android Traits

Your android character has certain traits stemming from their semi-artificial nature.

Ability Score Increase

Your Strength score increases by 2, and your Constitution score increases by 1.

Age

An android's body does not deteriorate, but an android’s cybernetic mind eventually shuts down and restarts itself after roughly a century.

Alignment

As with the humans they are patterned after, androids tend towards no particular alignment.

Size

Androids stand 6 feet tall and weigh 200 pounds, on average. Your size is Medium.

Speed

Your base walking speed is 30 feet.

Artificial Ancestry

You have advantage on saving throws against being charmed.

Constructed Body

You count as both a construct and a humanoid for the purpose of effects targeting such creatures. In addition, you have advantage on saving throws against disease, paralysis, and poison.

Cybernetic Brain

You have difficulty processing your own emotions and understanding those of others. As a result, you suffer disadvantage when making Wisdom (Insight) checks.

Darkvision

Your advanced artificially-designed eyes grant you superior vision in dark and dim conditions. You can see in dim light within 60 feet of you as if it were bright light, and in darkness as if it were dim light. You can’t discern color in darkness, only shades of gray.

Keen Senses

You gain proficiency in the Perception skill.

Power Surge

You can use a bonus action to add your Proficiency bonus to the result of one d20 roll. This can be done before or after making the d20 roll. When you use this ability, your circuitry-tattoos glow with light equivalent to that of a torch until the start of your next turn. Once you use this trait, you can't use it again until you finish a long rest.

Languages

You can speak, read, and write Common and one extra language of your choice.
