Homebrew Elven Race Details

Elven are lean and curvaceous, with women having sharply hourglass figures and men having triangular ones. They stand about six feet tall with pointed ears that stick out from the sides of their heads. Their skin is olive with a rosier tone than humans; their eyes are vibrant like distilled, pure colors; and their hair is typically pastel shades — commonly yellow, orange, or red and rarely blue, green, or purple.

Fluid and Hierarchical Society

Elven are naturally gregarious and confident. They form social groups around charismatic leaders and don’t hesitate to dissolve or change them as new leaders enter the scene. Elven love a good argument, and someone who makes a good one can rise up the social ladder. In fact, the leadership of the Grand Kingdom is determined by debate.

When it comes time to determine the new heir to the Imperial throne (currently Claudette m. Musicia), a Grand Debate will be held that allows any elven subject to participate. The debates are in a group format, for the entire family will need to assume roles in the government of next Imperial ruler. Once a ruler has been established, they rule with absolute authority except when it concerns the Grand Debate to select the heir.

Pervasively Magical

Elven practice a model of magic that teaches everyone a little bit of magic. From the ministers and the high scholars of the Imperial government to the farmers and even the urchins, everyone can cast a spell or two. This comes from a natural appreciation of magic, which stems in part from the magic that allows elven to live longer than normal, but it is also a reflection of the pragmatic nature of elven.

Elven Traits

All elven share the following traits.

Ability Score Increases

Your Charisma score increases by 2. Your choice of any other ability score increases by 1.

Age

Elven reach adulthood in their early 20s and can easily live into their 150s. Due to methuselyzation, they cease aging physically once they reach adulthood.

Size

Elven average about six feet tall. Women are usually slightly shorter than men. Your size is medium.

Speed

Your base walking speed in 30 feet.

Applied Magic

Due to a cultural proclivity for magic, you have learned to cast several spells independently of any you receive from a class’s spellcasting feature. At 1st level, choose one of druidcraft, prestidigitation, or thaumaturgy. You can cast that spell as cantrip. At 3rd level, choose a 1st level spell from any spell list that contains that cantrip. You can cast that spell once and regain the ability to cast it again after a long rest. At 5th level, choose a 2nd level spell from any spell list that contains that cantrip. You can cast that spell once and regain the ability to cast it again after a long rest. Charisma is your spellcasting ability for these spells.

Methuselyzation

You ceased aging physically once you reached adulthood. You are also immune to magical aging effects.

Language

You read, write, and speak elven. Elven shares a common ancestor language with Vulgate, but its similarities to Vulgate are superficial. Notably, Elven makes heavy use of null-subject constructions.
