Homebrew Abraxan Nymphs Species Details

The mysterious, untouched wilds that cover the vast expanse of Abraxa are home to some of its most beautiful and captivating creatures, the nymphs.

Beautiful plains and crystal-clear springs are just some of nature's wonders found in these ancient trees. Naiads gracefully swim through flowing creeks as Drayds watch them from the trees and Aurae flit through the blooming branches.

Appearance

These creatures are physically genderless, choosing to appear however they wish on creation. They can appear in many different forms, depending on which species of Nymph they are. But they all share these general features; Large, round eyes, small features, and are physically light to the touch, no matter what the Nymph looks like, they are comprised of pure magic and only weigh a few dozen pounds at the heaviest. They possess no real organs, only pure nature magic concentrated in the form of golden "blood" that leaks from them when wounded.

They have hair and body features that may resemble that of a humanoid, but one look at them and you will see that they are nothing less than magical. Brightly colored hair and skin, as well as large, colorful eyes and fanged smiles quickly put these innocent creatures aside from your regular races. Some possess strange features, such as antlers or tails, but all are usually quite small and thin-looking. Resembling a small elf.

Wild and Free

Nymphs prefer to stay in their natural homes, away from civilized races. But if you befriend one, you will see their beautiful and wild nature shining through. Nymphs crave the beauty they sprang from, and will travel many miles to be there. Their philosophies of connections with nature and the gods are nothing short of amazing. Befriending and traveling with a nymph can truly be a soul-freeing experience.

Too much time spent away from nature can actually dull a nymph, in both colors and spirit. Which can prove deadly. If a nymph spends too much time from nature's beauty (too much time spent in cities, indoors, or underground) their hit points will be reduced by 2 for every month they spend away. The more hit points that are taken, the duller and weaker the nymph becomes until they turn completely gray and die.

Nymph Subraces

Each nymph is the product of a different piece of natural beauty, meaning there are quite a few types of nymphs you may encounter;

Aurae

The Aurae are the avian cousins to the other Nymphs, displaying colors ranging from blue, purple, white, black, silver, and gray. Most Aurae are of the day, displaying more blue and white in their coloring, and feathers instead of hair. Their eyes can be any color, and they usually have two-colored irises. They are considered Small, and are extremely light, weighing anywhere from 10-20 pounds. The Aurae prefer the more mountainous regions of this world, and often avoid civilization at all costs, seeing the large buildings and crowding of people suffocating. They can also inhabit open plains or thin forests, playing in the small branches or running in the tall grass.

Naiads

The Naiads are the aquatic cousins of their sister nymphs. With green or blue scales decorating their slim bodies, they have fin-like appendages on their heads resembling hair. Their eyes are vaguely cat-like, and sport colors such as blue, green, purple, or yellow, although they can technically be any color. Ocean Naiads will more commonly sport things such as shark-like teeth, or fins on their arms or legs, while most freshwater Nymphs possess more human-like appearances. They are considered Medium and usually weigh 35-40 pounds. In contrast to their sister nymphs, Naiads live in the freshwater and saltwater bodies of the land of Abraxa, and also unlike their sister nymphs, are much more curious about civilized races, and they may live on docks or in harbors of large port cities.

Dryads

The Dryads are the standard nature nymph, inhabiting ancient forests and tending to their animals. These nature-based creatures can come in any number of colors, usually displaying hair made of flowers or vines and/or appendages made of plants, with darker-colored skin, resembling tree bark. Their eyes are quite stunning, with pupils in the shape of 6 petaled flowers. Usually, it is quite common for them to have a mutation such as antlers or hooved feet. They are considered Medium and weigh between 35-50 pounds. Dryads tend to make their homes deep in the isolation of a forest or woodland home, far from the stony reaches of civilization, practicing druidic magic and protecting their forest homes.
