Homebrew Aacrogonian Species Details
Background and Lore
Origin and Creation
The Aacrogonians are a race as old as time itself, predating the known history of the world. Unlike many other races, they were not creations of gods but the first humanoid race to evolve and adapt during the primordial era. Their ancient history is shrouded in mystery, with few records of the events that forced them to live underground, hidden from the world for centuries. Recently, they have emerged onto the surface, finding themselves in a world of unknown races and challenges. Their motto is to learn the ways of this new world, adapt, and become better and stronger.
Prehistoric
Aacrogonians are masters of adaptation, having survived for countless millennia. They live in tribal clans within vast underground caverns illuminated by strange crystals that glow as bright as the sun. These caverns are connected by underground rivers, fostering strong bonds between different clans. Despite their tribal nature, Aacrogonians have embraced modern innovations in architecture, weaponry, and battle strategies. They build stone temples under the luminous crystals where they conduct their sacred Blood Trials, a cherished tradition. Other structures are made from the prevalent materials of the modern era, often stone.
The Aacrogonians have developed advanced mining and metallurgy techniques, which they use to craft tools and weapons of exceptional quality. Their creations bear runic symbols denoting their creators and the intended owners, showcasing their craftsmanship and tradition.

In one of his four powerful clawed hands, he holds a balance scale, symbolizing justice and equilibrium, while in another, he clutches a hammer, representing craftsmanship and innovation.
Zyrmak's divine presence is often associated with water, as he is believed to have a deep connection to the underground rivers and crystalline caverns that are vital to the Aacrogonians' way of life. His divine realm is considered a vast, underground oasis of stunning beauty, where emerald waters flow through glistening caverns, and luminous crystals illuminate the subterranean landscape.

Killer Features
Aacrogonians possess striking reptilian features, with long, crocodile or alligator-like muzzles filled with fearsome teeth, intense eyes, and powerful tails. They are known for their robust, stocky builds, although females tend to be slightly less stocky and more slender than males. The Kaykac, a smaller breed among them, stands out with their unique characteristics.
Dressed to Impress
Aacrogonians favor clothing made from chitin instead of leather, often adorned with rare metals such as gold, silver, and platinum, featuring inlaid gemstones. They believe this attire reflects their closeness to their god but are often misinterpreted by other races as a display of wealth. Even their armor is forged with precious metals, emphasizing their craftsmanship and reverence for tradition.
Dwellers of the Deep
Aacrogonians are aquatic beings, spending most of their lives in large bodies of water, where they excel at hunting and gathering. They frequently collaborate with Tritons, offering their support in various forms, whether it be manual labor or fierce battles. Their friendly relations extend to Lizardfolk and Dragonborn, owing to shared similarities and mutual respect.
Strange Folk
In the eyes of the modern world, Aacrogonians are newcomers, emerging from seclusion after centuries. They recognize the need to understand the inhabitants of this new world if they are to survive and thrive.
Lizardfolk. '' Good people them. Old as we. Strange that they grow feathers like bird thing but no fly. Strange...''
Dragonborn. "The Dovahkiin are proud race. We tell them stories of first dragons of the world, That they would kill anything that moved, burn jungles to ash, and strike with no warning. Hard to believe this would happen. We share common tongue. They full of Honor. We friends. Great Friends. We their elders. Ancestors."
Humans. ''They show fire hearts and history tells of great deeds. Yet, they are controlled by emotion. They kill kin for greed. They beneath us. We see them as children, they can learn a lot from us. Yet, too prideful to learn from ‘overgrown lizards’. Despicable. ''
Dwarves. ''Short, sturdy people. Love good fights like us. Great miners, they hold a great amount of precious metals like us. We look to their mining technology and improve upon it. The way they hold their metals and do nothing with them is…weird. Do they not honor their god like us? Those beings are... unusual...'
Elves. ''Their body is so frail I could snap it between two of my fingers. Yet they show fighting skills we have never seen and have shown us to use thing called 'magic'. Thing they call 'art' baffles us, hang things called 'pictures' on walls, tell us it keeps them as 'decoration'. Yet there is one thing we like about them is their thing called 'music' it somehow soothes us, calms us. We’ve learned civility from these beings. Magic is what makes us value these creatures. Fine Beings indeed.''
Halflings. ''People small enough that I could eat them in one bite. But they are very welcoming to us and greet us with 'smiles'. This action they call a ‘smile’ is an act of baring their teeth. Seems like a threat but instead it shows friendliness? They strangely 'cook' their food though I will admit that it was tasty. Still, I prefer my food when it's still breathing or at the very least raw. Though if we want to adapt to this new world, we must also adapt their way of eating.'
Orcs. '' Hah, people I can get along with. Proud warriors and fierce fighters they are. They treat me as one of their own as they respect my strength. Learned a few new fighting tricks. Over a few punches… They are brutish beings. Their fighting lacks technique but makes up for it in power. We teach them technique, they teach us how to train.'
Tieflings. ''Odd people them. Shroud themselves with mystery. Yet they understand what's it like to be different, 'outcasts' they call it.' We like them, as mysterious as they are. They are neutral towards us, yet treat us as companions. We have a kinship in being what they call ‘outcasts’.”
Tritons. ''People of the sea. They treat us as equals in the water as they too are honorable like us and willing to fight invaders. They were the first to help us in this new world. So we return the favor by helping them protect their home.''
~An extract from the notes of an elder of the Crokac bloodline. Zyli was his name. No family.
The Blood Trials
The Blood Trials are an ancient tradition among Aacrogonians, a rite of passage that every Aacrogonian must undergo. It commences around the age of 35, after completing their initial training. The trials involve six challenges, testing their Wisdom, Intelligence, Fortitude, Agility, Raw Power, and Leadership. Each challenge is undertaken by groups of six Aacrogonians, and the risks of death are high. Success in the trials is rewarded with unique treasures, which are placed on the temple's altar as a symbol of their determination and abilities. Failure, on the other hand, results in two options: death to preserve the family's bloodline or exile with a mark of shame. Exiles can return only by accomplishing heroic deeds surpassing the trials themselves, emphasizing the value of honor to Aacrogonians

The Bond of Scales
Marriage among the Aacrogonians is a profoundly symbolic and sacred union known as the "Bond of Scales." It represents not only the union of two individuals but also the merging of two families and clans. This tradition emphasizes the Aacrogonian values of strength, honor, and unity. Marriage is a custom deeply rooted in Aacrogonian history. The Aacrogonian Bond of Scales was the earliest form of marriage in the world.
Proposal and Acceptance
The journey towards the Bond of Scales begins with a proposal. When an Aacrogonian wishes to marry another, they approach the prospective partner and present them with a specially crafted piece of jewelry known as the "Scale Amulet." This amulet is traditionally made of precious metals and gemstones and is meticulously engraved with intricate runic symbols. It is a symbol of the suitor's devotion and intention to form a lifelong partnership.
The prospective partner has the choice to accept or decline the proposal. If they accept, they wear the Scale Amulet as a token of their commitment.
Blessing of the Elders
Once the proposal is accepted, the couple seeks the blessing of the elders of both families and clans. Elders play a pivotal role in Aacrogonian society, and their approval is considered essential. During a formal ceremony, the elders offer their blessings, wisdom, and guidance to the couple, invoking the blessings of their ancestors and the Aacrogonian god.
Exchange of Vows
The marriage ceremony takes place in the central stone temple of the Aacrogonian settlement, beneath the luminous crystals. The couple stands before the altar, holding hands, with their Scale Amulets intertwined. They recite vows they have prepared, expressing their love, commitment, and promises to one another and to their clans.
The Ritual of the Scales
One of the most significant aspects of the Bond of Scales is the ritual involving the exchange of scales. Each partner presents a small, polished scale from their tail, which they have kept since childhood. These scales are symbolic of their individuality and history. They exchange these scales as a gesture of trust and the merging of their identities.
The ritual is accompanied by a chant, led by a priest or priestess, which symbolizes the blending of two lives into one. The exchanged scales are carefully placed in a specially crafted container that is then placed on the temple's altar.
Feast and Celebration
Following the ceremony, a grand feast is held in honor of the newlywed couple. It is a time for celebration, with traditional Aacrogonian dishes and music. The community comes together to congratulate and offer gifts to the couple.
The Scale Amulet's Transformation
The Scale Amulet, which was presented during the proposal, undergoes a transformation after the wedding. It is returned to the couple as a symbol of their union. The amulet is now adorned with the scales exchanged during the ceremony, further symbolizing the merging of two lives into one.
Joint Clan Symbol
As a final step, the couple designs a unique clan symbol that combines elements from both of their original clan symbols. This symbol represents their newly formed family and signifies their unity.
Throughout their marriage, the couple wears their Scale Amulets proudly, not only as a symbol of their commitment to each other but also as a reminder of the Aacrogonian values they hold dear: unity, strength, and honor.
Divorce among the Aacrogonians is rare and is only considered in extreme circumstances, as they hold their marriage traditions in the highest regard. The Bond of Scales is a sacred and enduring union that symbolizes the strength of the Aacrogonian people and their deep connection to their history and traditions.
Aacrogonian Breeds
Aacrogonians employ a distinctive method of reproduction, deeply rooted in their ancient traditions and adapted to their subterranean lifestyle. Within Aacrogonian society, individuals have the freedom to choose their mates, allowing for diverse pairings. The characteristics of their offspring are determined by the dominant genetic traits of their parents, resulting in a rich tapestry of Aacrogonian diversity.
Aacrogonian offspring develop within eggs, which they inhabit for a full year before hatching. This extended gestation period ensures that they emerge fully equipped to navigate their challenging subterranean environment. After hatching, young Aacrogonians are placed in underground lakes, where they undergo six months of intensive muscle development. Their diet primarily consists of hunting fish, a demanding task that helps forge their physical prowess. However, this phase is not without its challenges, as the environment poses various dangers and predators.

Aacrogonian names are bestowed upon them when they are claimed from the underground lakes. These names often bear similarities to the Lizardfolk's naming conventions and carry meanings in their native tongue, making each Aacrogonian's name unique and significant.
