Homebrew XP Scaling Vampire Template Species Details
The following is the addendum to what my homebrew refers to as a 'Master Vampire'. An NPC Master Vampire is an almost exact replica of the 'Vampire' found in the Monster Manual (I changed their unarmed damage from 1d8+4 to 2d4+4 to be in line with this homebrew's Claws). It refers to 'Vampire Spawn' but this is a term reallocated to a the first stage of Vampirism. Spawn are effectively their mortal counterparts gone undead, bloodcrazed, given a bite attack and claw attack with slightly above average ability scores. This makes becoming a vampire very troublesome, as you will be unable to be healed by low level spells.
I would not make a character a vampire until they are at minimum level 8, the higher level the character is when transformed, the quicker and smoother their power will increase.
A level 5 character would have to earn xp to almost level 7 to reach Lesser Vampire. They would have already been level 9 when they become a Full Vampire. They would then almost make it to level 12 before becoming a Greater Vampire. Waiting for 2 or 3 levels is a long time to be cursed to the life of a Vampire Spawn.
Comparatively, a level 8 character made a vampire spawn progresses to Stage 2 in around 1.5 levels-worth of experience. Still a long time to be cursed but much more manageable with an 8th level character's resources.

Player Characters as Vampires |
||
|
The game statistics of a player character transformed into a Vampire Spawn change as follows; the character's type becomes Undead (humanoid), they can no longer regain hit points from resting and their class features that restore hit points now only provide them temporary hit points equal to that amount. The character’s Strength, Dexterity, and Constitution scores become 13 if they aren't higher. In addition, the character gains the vampire spawn's damage resistances, darkvision, traits, and actions along with a base AC of 12+Dex Mod when not wearing armor. Attack and damage rolls for the vampire spawn's attacks are based on Strength and if the character has ‘multiattack’ and attacks remaining they can bite or use their claws interchangeably with weapon attacks. The character's alignment becomes chaotic evil, and the DM might take control of the character until the character regains composure, their vampirism is reversed with a Wish spell or the character is brought back to life willingly with true resurrection. A character that remains a vampire and earns the experience points noted below advance their vampiric powers in addition to any levels they gain. Becoming the nigh-unstoppable Master Vampire requires that you subdue another Master Vampire, killing them by reducing their hit point maximum to 0 with your necrotic drain. This takes a long time and is very difficult to do, likely an entire storyline of planning and tracking. |

XP Scaling Vampire Template Traits
A template for PCs or NPCs to spread out the stages of Vampirism, making them more interesting and their power spike less frontloaded.Original Racial Bonuses
You retain the racial bonuses of your species prior to becoming a vampire. Innate Magical Abilities, Movement Speed, Proficiencies, Ability Score Increases and Size all remain as they were.
Dark Fate
The character's type becomes Undead (humanoid). Several effects that would or would not affect you may now do the inverse. For examples see; Cure Wounds, Turn Undead, Hold Person, etc. (With most common healing magic not functioning for them, a vampire at 0 hp must be given special help if they are to be awoken mid-combat)
You only regain half of the hit points when rolling hit dice and Long Rests can only heal you up to half of your maximum health. Class features that restore hit points still function at full effect unless they specify otherwise (such as Lay on Hands not affecting undead).
You no longer gain sustenance from normal food. You must deal necrotic damage with your bite equal to the number of Hit Dice you have once every 24 hours. If you have not, you gain a point of Exhaustion.
Additionally, the character gains a new Character Flaw: "I struggle to contain my need to drink blood"
Darkvision
You have Darkvision out to a range of 60ft if not already greater.
Deathly Resilience
You have resistance to Necrotic damage and are immune to non-magical diseases.
Additionally, you automatically stabilize when you drop to 0 hit points unless outright killed.
Spider Climb
The vampire can climb difficult surfaces, including upside down on ceilings, without needing to make an ability check. (Half speed)
Unarmored Defense
When not wearing armor, your AC = 12 + Dex Mod.
Master Vampire
If you get here, I will fill out the sheet, or you can figure it out yourself... But this is my first time using this system and all this copying and pasting and changing 3 numbers is tedious.
I dont know if it is possible to send feedback, but if you find anything in this that doesnt work or needs clarifying, try to let me know and I will fix it when possible?
Silver Weapon Resistance
You have resistance to bludgeoning, piercing and slashing damage from any non-magical weapons.

Posted May 3, 2019I was working on low sleep and now notice that the actual 'Player Characters as Vampires' insert is an old version. It says that vampires dont regain HP from resting and that features give temporary hit points. Ignore that. The 'Dark Fate' trait is correct when it says you recover half hit points and features still function normally.
Also, I have no idea how to make edits to uploaded content. Only option is to 'Create new version' which seems to require you to remake LITERALLY EVERYTHING... and I wont be doing that.
