Homebrew Ægis Species Details
Living constructs
The Ægis are beings of purpose, sculpted by the hands of power and animated by the breath of intent. Not born but made, they stride the lands of mortals and immortals alike, shaped by gods and titans, by mages of ancient lineage and entities beyond the veil of reality, or by the chaotic tides of existence. Each Ægis carries the imprint of their creator's ambition, the indelible mark of a design greater than life's whims.
Purpose built
The Ægis race is defined by its adaptability and the inherent magic of their creation. Their bodies are resilient to the ravages of time and disease, often granting them resistance or immunity to poisons and illnesses that plague organic beings. Their minds are sharp, imbued with the knowledge necessary to fulfill their creators' orders, making them quick learners and problem solvers.
Appearance
The Ægis race, while predominantly humanoid in silhouette, reveals the craft of their origins. They might possess skin that ripples with the sheen of forged metal or the smoothness of carved stone, eyes that gleam with the luster of gems or burn with an inner light that eclipses any mundane flame. Some will look otherworldly and are sometimes seen as works of art rather than people, while others might be indistinguishable from humans, elves, or other races at a glance, save for the otherworldly aura that clings to them.
Personality
As varied as the purposes for which they were made, the personalities of the Ægis are as numerous as the stars. Some are stoic, their temperaments as unyielding as the ore they resemble; others are fluid as mercury, adapting and changing with the situations they encounter. An Ægis created for protection might be inherently noble and self-sacrificing, while one fashioned for espionage could be cunning and deceptive. Despite their diverse personalities, most Ægis share a common trait of a strong drive towards achieving their goals or seeking their reason for existence.
Culture
The Ægis have no culture of their own; they are too individualistic, each created for a different purpose. However, they often adopt the customs and norms of the societies they find themselves in, integrating and assimilating to various degrees. In groups, they might form transient alliances, with each Ægis bringing a fragment of their creator's vision to the collective. Some Ægis find solace in the company of other constructs or beings that share the kinship of artificial life.
