Homebrew Aanvaric Species Details

Although they may look almost fully humanoid, these beasts have plenty more in store when the show their scales.

Aanvaric are known as masters of surprise, due to their stealth and combat training, that they begin at a young age. Aanvaric are known to have basic shapeshifting skills, which allow them to reside in two main forms- natural, and simple. Although natural Aanvaric are humanoid, and do appear it, their 'simple' form can be much more convincing.

Born of dragons, and a hidden race that not much is known about, Aavarics climb proudly through the world, heads high, although greeted by a mixture of fear and, more pleasurable emotions.

Physical Description 

The Aanvaric are a medium sized, humanoid draconic race. Although they share draconic ancestry with their Dragonborn cousins,  they appear mostly dissimilar. Where Dragonborn have thick, scaly tales, the Aanvaric are born with a short, whip like, leathery tail, with light feathers. As they grow, their tail grows with them. The most accurate way to tell an Aanvaric's age is through its tail, as the Aanvaric never stop growing, and simply grow with continuous age.

In all Aanvaric forms,  these creatures exhibit a few key features.

i) A straight, swirling, or curved blue pattern on their biceps, back, thighs, and faces. These marks grow brighter, from the birth of the Aanvaric, to its adolescence . Once an Aanvaric reaches fu, they gain the ability to control the brightness of these markings. Adult Aanvaric have developed an extremely advanced language with these markings, that involves flashes and various brightness. This allows the Aanvaric to speak to each other when audio is not an option, or when being secretive is required.

ii) The Aanvaric possess thick, strong claws-  notable features. Their claws are like that of enlarged Aardvark claws. And, in fact, their name has drawn inspiration from the Aardvark. They are known to live in the extremes of the walk- either far underground, in burrowed cities that they construct over many years, as clans, or high in treetop cities. Their claws are not only used for digging, but for climbing. And of course, and powerful natural weapons, capable of piercing a Dragonborn's scales. Aanvaric cities, no matter what tribe, or clan inhabits them, are guarded by fierce soldiers known as Dethlars. Every member of these special forces has no name, other than Dethlar- with the purpose of acting solely as one, to defend the entirety of the Aanvaric population. 

iii) The Aanvaric have many features that look, and are, deadly. However, their arguably most powerful weapon is hidden in plain sight. The Aanvaric's powerful tails are ultimately their most versatile weapon, allowing them to deal critical damage with their tail's whiplash-like hits, as well as knock an enemy off of its feet, or surprise it with a seemingly meaningless body part.

The Aanvaric are typically characterized by a blend of cunning intelligence, resourcefulness, and a sense of pride in their heritage. They are often cautious and secretive, owing to their ability to shapeshift and their mastery of stealth. Despite their formidable physical abilities, they tend to prefer diplomacy and negotiation over outright confrontation, though they are fiercely protective of their clans and territories. Aanvaric individuals value loyalty and unity within their communities, and they are known for their strong sense of duty towards their people. While they may initially appear steadfast, and serious allies to outsiders, those who earn their trust can find them to be aloof and enigmatic companions. However, crossing an Aanvaric or threatening their kin can unleash their fierce and unyielding nature, making them formidable adversaries when provoked. Overall, the temperament of the Aanvaric reflects a balance between adaptability, resilience, and a deep-rooted connection to their draconic ancestry.
