Homebrew "Landborne" Voidal Species Details

Landborne Voidals are landlocked creatures created by the Void Of Creation. They come in many shapes and sizes and many of them are even capable of negotiation. They typically come in a few different forms, such as, mammal-like, reptile-like, and humanoid. They have a moderate rate of evolution and have a steady gain of power. The longer a landborne voidal survives, as well as the more souls it consumes, the easier it will be for the voidal to evolve.

Mammal-Like Voidals

These voidals always have fur, claws, and at least decent agility and are known for being prime models of what voidals believe a beast should be, and for being tamable as well. Landborne Voidals can be as small as an ant or as big as a planet. They have at least 4 limbs and a head, with a maximum of 13 eyes. The abilities of mammal-like vary from creature to creature and can range from elemental traits and sharpened teeth to camoflauge(Not invisibility) and night vision. These voidals are often considered the "wildlife" of the Void Of Creation.

Reptile-Like Voidals

With hardened scales and reinforced shells, the reptile-like voidals are known for their higher chance to evolve into an "Assassin Voidal" which is an uncommon race of voidals known for being silent apex predators. Reptile-like voidals have an unending hunger yet no actual need to eat for survival but rather a want to eat to avoid the hunger's pain. They have at most 6 limbs and 1 head, as well as sharp claws/teeth and extremely durable defenses. Because of extreme pain when hungry combined with rapid digestion and increased hunger, these voidals rarely get to sleep, causing them to be extremely violent if they are awoken by an outside force. The near constant pain also makes them very agitatable and even easier to provoke. 

Plant-Like Voidals

With the sentience of animals and the abilities of plants, these voidals are know for being the most dangerous and cunning of the landborne. Plant-like voidals commonly have powerful abilities with the infantile of their kind at level 8. They have immense strength and each one can control an entire portion of wilderness. These voidals have very high intelligence and are highly used to using their plant-like bodies to camouflage with their surroundings. All plant-like voidals come from The Overgrowth, a very well-known territory in the Void Of Creation. These voidals are capable of negotiation and are equally as sentient as [Humanoid] voidals. Note - Plant-like voidals are extremely vulnerable to fire until they become [Full-Grown].

Humanoid Voidals

Humanoid voidals are known for their near exact appearance to a non-voidal humanoid. These voidals can evolve any traits to become, not exactly like, but similar, to the humanoid population of the civilization they wish to integrate into. They are highly intelligent and are extremely secretive about what they actually are, often shrugging off not having certain traits as deformities or extra traits as mutations. To further secure their identity as their chosen humanoid race, the voidals will attempt to learn how to hack technology and erase data relating to any suspicious behaviors they show. Humanoid voidals also may choose a different method, quietly observing the population in order to learn their etiquette and culture, so they can more easily fit in and avoid suspicion.

Types And Behaviors

All voidal beings can live forever, it's whether they can survive that's the problem. Landborne voidals can have a variety of behavioral types which are; Mechanical, Psychotic, Beast, Phobia, Parasitic, Security, and Overgrown.

PSYCHOTIC: BLOODLUST - The voidal craves bloodshed and massacres indiscriminately. PLAYFUL - The voidal "plays" with its food before consumption, giving their prey an extra painful death. PSYCHOPATH - The humanoid creature befriends its victims, gaining their trust to lure them to their death. CONDENSED INSANITY - This creature has a higher level of hit die (d4>d6>d8>d10>d12>d20) and has 10 additional hit die (+10d#).

MECHANICAL: MINDLESS - The voidal bears no emotion and only knows murder, it kills indiscriminately with no hesitation nor mercy. MERCILESS - The voidal will not hesitate to slay those who offend or threaten it. PLATED - This creature has a higher constitution (+1d6) and number of hit die (+20d#).

BEAST: INSTINCT - The voidal is not sentient and knows only eat or be eaten. TERRITORIAL - The voidal claims a territory and will protect it from those it believes are weaker. APEX - The creature makes every fight, a fight to the death.

PHOBIA: NYCTO - The creature either lures or drags its prey into the darkest shadows. ATHAZAGORA - The creature consumes the memories of its prey from afar, only leaving them once no memories are left or they reach civilization. KAKORRHAPHIO - The creature leads their prey into repeated failures, feeding off their despair. FRIGO - The creature will trap and then slowly freeze its prey alive. TOMO - The creature captures its prey and then surgically removes their organs on by one, while using its voidal traits to keep them alive, awake, and aware of what is happening. This continues until the creature has removed every last organ, leaving just a skeleton, and then it consumes the prey's soul. THERMO - The creature will trap and then slowly cook its prey alive. TRYPANO - The creature stabs their prey with syringes. The victim will stay conscious until they have been stabbed roughly 1,000-10,000 times. AUTOMATONO - The humanoid creature surrounds its prey with several humanoid statues (Mannequins, wax figures, animatronics, etc). THALASSO - The creature captures and then drowns their prey. SCOPO - The creature stalks its prey and constantly watches them, giving the victim just enough hints that something they can't see is observing them closely. The surrounding area is silent and devoid of all moving creatures, even the plants are deathly still.

PARASITIC: TRAIT THIEF - The creature is able to steal the traits of organic creatures via consumption. LEECH - The creature can heal by stealing another creature's hit points. PARASITE - This creature requires a host to evolve.

SECURITY: REINFORCED - The creature has additional strength (+1d8) and a higher number of hit die (+5d#). This creature also has advantage on saving throws. PROTECTOR - The creature will protect the first creature it sees until death, and if it fails to protect them, it will dissolve immediately and painfully. GUARDIAN (ITEM) - The creature will search for a fairly defendable location, and then, it will set down a [Moderate] voidal item in said location. It will viciously protect this item until its demise, (The item can not be moved until the guardian is slain). GUARDIAN (PORTAL) - The creature will always stand by the voidal portal from which it came from. The portal will always remain closed until the guardian is slain. GUARDIAN (CREATURE) - The creature acts as the “bodyguard” of a [Superior] creature and will not hesitate to sacrifice itself in order to protect them.

OVERGROWN: MYCELIUM - The creature lays a carpet of mycelium across a large area, feeling everything that comes in contact with it. SPORE TRACK - The creature can place spores on other creatures to track their location until the spores are taken off or sterilized. VINES - The creature spreads its vines across the surrounding area, intentionally blocking paths that are commonly used by adventurers. If the vines are attacked, the creature will violently lash out at the attacker. NEWCOMER - The newborn creature is extremely vulnerable to fire attacks. THORNED - The creature will always deal an additional 5 slashing damage. FLOWER - The creature is probably peaceful and often heals nearby creatures, regardless of the creature's injury or consent. If the petals are a deep maroon, then I hope it gave you a quick death.

A voidal always has at least 4 traits from its behavioral types due to them being a product of specific voidal creators. The Creators typically involved with landborne voidals are: Scarlah, Mencile, Raidion, Fear's Fear, Zee'isle, Predarei, Chlorovine, and Gaurzee.

Voidal Senses

Voidals have evolved several unique traits due to the Void Of Creation's habit of shifting in and out of existence between several realities. Voidal senses is a trait all voidals have and it allows them to sense the presence of magic and determine whether it is a threat. It was evolved due to several powerful magic individuals killing off voidals because of their threatening appearances.

Versatility Of A Landborne Voidal

You may have traits from any landborne race. Examples include, the body structure and agility of an elf, the tough skin and strength of an orc, the scales and preferences of a kobold, and even the magic attunement of tiefling.

Size Of A Landborne Voidal

Landborne Voidals range from the size of an ant to everything bigger than 3 feet. Your size is Tiny, Small, Medium, Large, or Gargantuan. Your size will change with every evolution, whether you shrink or grow, will be up to your desires.
