Homebrew Acedian (Sloth People) Species Details
“While the other inhabitants of the archipelago built their communities in towering temples or vast underground cave networks the Acedians preferred to live simply amongst the vast jungles, despite this almost tribal approach to civilization they are no less kind or civilized."
— Scratch, Traveling Kenku Archivist
Acedians are sloth-like, semi-nomadic people that live amongst the lush jungles of their archipelago homeland.
A Body Built for Nature
Shaggy fur, spindly limbs, and clawed toes on their hands/feet make Acedians perfectly suited for their thick jungle habitat. Most Acedians have no issue going their entire life never stepping into a man-made structure, much preferring the comfort of overgrown vines and branches as the only roof over their heads.
Long-aged Wisdom
Acedians reach maturity at the age of 40. While this may seem like a lengthy growth period to many, they make up for it with a long lifespan of 300 years. This lifespan feels even longer to Acedians themselves as their slow movements and relaxed lifestyle alters their perception of time.
Through this long lifespan spent in nature Acedians gain an appreciation for all of life's creations, from the short lived mayfly to the ancient trees towering above them.
Yearning for More
On rare occasion, either through an ambitious desire to see the world outside of their archipelago or to gain a more complex understanding of life and the world around them, some Acedians will venture to far away continents to begin life as an adventurer.
While a very uncommon sight, Acedians relaxed and welcoming disposition ensures even the most prejudice of communities will quickly learn to welcome them.

Living Gardens
Due to the rare and often very slow movements of the Acedux moss colonies often finds it possible to root itself into the long shaggy fur on an Acedux's back. The mossy fur is a suitable home for most small plants to flourish. Your back can grow up to 3 different types of small plant life at a time. Using the trimmings or seeds of a plant you can roll a nature check on a long rest to attempt to successfully begin growing a plant on your back or replace an existing one. The effects and usage of each plant is decided by the DM. For example planting nightshade on oneself gives easy access to a poison when harvested and could even give resistance to poison after prolonged growth, or magical mushrooms that allow those who eat them to understand all language for a short time.
