Homebrew ToonKind Species Details
Born on the Ethereal Plane, the Toonkind are a strange and powerful race known for their love of play and creativity. They may come in all different shapes and sizes, and while a large population possess animal-like features, Toonkind appearances can range from nearly human to living kitchen appliances. Their nigh-boundless energy inspires them to find entertainment in most any situation; if they cannot find excitement readily they may be compelled to make some of their own, earning them a reputation as troublemakers. Thankfully, their natural charm and great agility help them wheedle their way out of whatever trouble they might make.
ToonKind Traits
They have cartoon-ish traits for entertaining situations that get them out of whatever trouble they might makeAbility Scores Increase
Toonkind have +2 Charisma and +1 Dexterity
Age
Toonkind Reach Maturity by the age of 5, but no one has yet confirmed how old they can live to be.
Size
The Majority of Toonkind stands between 4-5 feet tall, though it is not unheard of for an individual to reach 6 feet.
Languages
Toonkind can read, write, and talk in Common and Grawlix. Grawlix is a language that sounds to most other species as a series of sound effects or animal noises. In written form, it composes primarily of spirals, stars, and typographical symbols.
Hammerspace
Due to their less than hardy natures, Toonkind have access to a small personal pocket dimension in which they can store personal objects no more than three cubic feet in size. This is a fickle magic, however, and may not always grant the return of the object they desire. Players must roll a percentile dice whenever pulling an object from hammerspace, with a 10 percent chance they pull out the wrong item. Repeated attempts will increase to a 50 percent difficulty until the original item is found. There is oxygen in the hammerspace.
Paper-Thin Disguise
As Toonkind have increased their interest in other cultures, they have adapted impressive methods of going incognito. Just a wig or a false moustache can do wonders in obscuring their outlandish appearances. Toonkind are proficient with the Disguise kit.
Smile, Darn Ya
Once per long rest, a Toonkind can cast Tasha's Hideous Laughter, with Charisma for their save DC.
The Acme Effect
Starting at level 5, you can use this ability to become resistant to any non-magical attack once per long rest. This increases to two times per long rest at level 7, and three times per long rest at level 10.
Frankenalie
Frankinalie are toons who value subtlety and thoughtfulness in their entertainment. They follow their set of principles to best ensure that the fun is shared with everyone around them, since they are not the sole player upon their stage. Their appearance can sometimes come close to resembling other races, but their large eyes and rounded features are a telltale giveaway. They have the reputation as the most friendly and reasonable Toonkind, but make no mistake--Frankinalie are just as willing to make their fun with manipulation as with kindness.
Proficient in Persuasion
These empathetic Toonkind are proficient in Persuasion.
Speak with Animals
At level 1, the Frankenalie can use Speak with Animals three times per day to better engage with the world around them.
Rubberhose
Rubberhose are the first known species of Toonkind, valuing keeping things simple and light; they can easily be told apart from other Toonkind subraces by their monochromatic bodies and strangely shaped eyes. They prefer to live freely and with as much enthusiasm as possible to find the fun in every possible scenario. Some would call them childish, but others might call them selfish or immature as their tendency towards entertainment does not always extend to consideration of others.
Profienct in Acrobatics
These Toonkind are Proficient in Acrobatics.
Silent Image
Toonkind use Silent Image using illusion not only to confound foes and rubes, but also as a manner of communication and self expression.
Warne
Warne are shrewd and clever, and find the funniest joke is the one they can get people to play on themselves; there's nothing more satisfying than seeing someone's ego break down into absurdity. Most often they're harmless pranksters, but their temper is a force to be feared. Warne tend either towards short and stout or rail thin with long, lanky limbs.
Proficient in Deception
With a way with words, they are proficient in Deception.
Expeditious Retreat
Warners can cast Expeditious Retreat three times per day in case their schemes go awry.
Comments
hell yeah hell yeah
This sounds amazing! Though it would be nice to see the difference between the three subraces.
Love this but maybe the pocket dimension could be increased to 5 feet
The three subraces are based on Frankenallee, Rubberhose, and Warner Brothers animation. You can find these all on Google, but Frankenallee is rather poorly defined. To my understanding they're meant to look like high-end graffiti (mural) art, which is why they look the most humanoid and are also the most modest and artistic.
Oh I get it now. Actually the first one is based on Frank and Ollie cartoons. I googled it and it's supposed to be Disney-style.
badabababaa i'm loving it!
