Homebrew Viscarii Species Details

You are an Oblex that has broken free from the control of an elder brain, maybe you wondered too far, or adventures slayed you overlord, maybe you even crafted an escape in secrecy under the the harsh conditions you where enslaved to. No matter how it happened, you are certain one thing is true... you are now free, this world is now yours to do whatever it is that you desire.

Viscarii Traits

A highly intelligent Ooze, capable of complex emotions and even able to hold itself into a shape that resembles the other species it has fed on the memories of, you chose this shape in creation.

Size

Your Size is Medium (about 4–7 feet tall) or Small (about 2–4 feet tall), chosen when you select this species.

Speed

Your speed is 30 feet.

Memory Eater

You harmlessly feed on memories of those around you. Whenever you finish a long rest, for each other creature within 30ft of you that is sleeping, you gain 1 temporary hit point.

This value increases to 2 at level 10 and 3 at level 18.

Amorphous

You can squeeze through a space as narrow as 1 inch wide, provided you are wearing and carrying nothing. You also have advantage on ability checks you make to initiate or escape a grapple.

Mitosis

When you are reduced to 0 hit points, you may split into two. While in this state you gain the following traits:

  • You are two creatures with their own actions, bonus actions and reactions, you share the same initiative, can each move at half your normal speed rounded up to the nearest increment of 5 and are a size smaller then your starting size.
  • You have a maximum health equal to half your current maximum health rounded up and are reduced to 1 hit point.
  • You share the same spell slots and you may cast spells without needing a focus however any material components are still consumed, You also can attack with your pseudopods that deal 1d6 + Strength modifier, you are proficient with this natural weapon and is considered magical, this increases to a d8 at level 10 and again to a d10 at level 18.
  • Any and all damage you do while in this state is halved.
  • Your AC is 15.
  • At the start of each of your turns you both halves regain 1d4 + your Constitution modifier hit points. This increases to a d6 at level 10 and again to a d8 at level 18.
  • Your items are harmlessly absorbed into your body until you can reform. Any attuned items are still active during this time granting their effects to both of you if applicable, the same is true for any status effects on you at the time of the split, You are still considered one creature for the sake of calculating these effects.
  • You lose concentration as you split apart.

If both halves are alive and within 5 feet of one another, you may spend an action to reform into your original form. When you reform this way you heal equal to both hit point pool totals.

If one half dies, you can reform after a long rest.

You can't use this feature again until you finish a long rest.

Stasis

You don't need to sleep, and magic can't put you to sleep. You can gain a long rest by going into a low energy Stasis for 4 hours, during which you retain consciousness.

Darkvision

You have Darkvision with a range of 120 feet.
