Homebrew Ahru'Zi Species Details
Deep within the jungle, the Ahru'Zi, often called Mantisfolk lurk, alien to most and often evoking terror. Their lot is to be looked on as exotic and strange, treated even merely as pests by many common folk. They are natives to the Feywild, though many have long since moved out into the Prime material plane.
They are hermits, nomadic in nature, staying as far from civilized life as possible. If only just to avoid the prying or hateful gaze they would receive.
Isolated and Alien
To many, Ahru'Zi look just like over grown Mantids, but they're more of a humanoid shape. Bipedal in nature, and with two sets of arms, though one set ends in the familiar spiked club iconic of their smaller cousins. Many even have wings that can be used for short flights. Members of this race can easily reach up to or over 6 feet tall, though most commonly land over 5 feet. Their chitinous bodies offer them natural protection from attacks.
Ahru'Zi Traits
As an Ahru'Zi, you have certain traits characteristic of your people. Being able to strike foes with your natural weapons could be useful, but also offers unique risks.Ability Score increase
Your Dexterity score increases by 2, and your Wisdom score increases by 1.
Pincer Strike
You can use your spiked pincers to attack your enemies, dealing 1d6 + Dexterity modifier piercing damage.
Chitinous Body
Due to your plated exoskeleton, your unarmored AC is 13 + Dexterity modifier.
Tremorsense
Your antennae allow you to feel vibrations in the air. You have tremorsense in a range of 30 feet.
Size
Ahru'Zi are anywhere from 5 to just over 6 feet tall. They weigh anywhere from 90-100 lbs. Your size is medium.
Flight
You can use your wings to move up to 30 feet. You can only use this if you aren't wearing Medium or Heavy armor.
Additionally, at the end of your movement you may use your wings to travel an extra 10 feet. You can do this once per long rest.
Speed
You have a base walking speed of 40 feet.
Languages
You can speak Common, Sylvan, and Ahro'Zei.
Age
Due to their nature as creatures of the Feywild, Ahru'Zi can live for thousands of years.
Leafy Mantis
You have a leafy body, which helps you be much stealthier than your fellow Ahru'Zi.
Stealthy
Your leafy and camouflaged appearance grants you proficiency in the stealth skill.
Leafy Body
Due to your leafy body, you are best at stealth when in plants. Starting at 5th level you have expertise in stealth, and can treat any roll under 10 as a 10 while in plants.
Predatory Strike
Starting at 5th level, when you are spotted in your leafy hideaway, you can make a reaction unarmed strike against the creature that spotted you, if they are within 10 feet.
Orchid Mantis
Differentiating from your fellow Ahru'Zi, you are bright in coloration and are able to make yourself look like a flower, though an exceptionally large one.
Distracting Form
Your appearance is strange enough to charm others near you. You have advantage on Charisma checks towards humanoids.
Ability Score Increase
Your Charisma score increases by 2
Charming Looks
Starting at 5th level you can cast charm person once per day thanks to your strange looks. The save DC for this spell is 8 + Proficiency + Charisma.
