Homebrew Adolfos 2.0 Species Details

A Beast in All but Mind

Standing at a height of five feet tall at their shoulders they tower over some of the smaller races with ease. There is no real distinction between male or female Adolfos other than by checking manually so to other races it can be hard to determine what gender one is. Their fur ranges from pure silver to as dark as the night sky, on their foreheads every Adolfos is born with a unique marking, no marking is alike. Similarly they are quadrupedal and have a harder time standing on two legs but by the time that they reach adulthood most have mastered to art of staying aloft on two legs for short time periods. They rarely live in packs of more than their immediate family leading to close knit familial units that are fiercely loyal to one another. Every Adolfos' goal, aside from protecting their family is to seek out knowledge of any kind, be it ancient or vulgar they do not care. To them knowledge is something to be cherished, it would not be a stretch to find that a single wolf has a small libraries worth of knowledge on any given subject as they will hoard knowledge at a moments' notice. Being of a more beastly nature the Adolfos are unable to communicate with most humanoid races, leaving them with a neigh impenetrable language barrier, it frustrates many of them as they are proficient in most other languages due to their studious nature. Some Adolfos have been able to develop telepathic abilities which allowed for the ability to communicate with any race if they so desired.

Notorious Recluses

While not especially uncommon, the Adolfos can sneak by unheard by most and tend to live near someplace that they can learn something often moving when they have learned everything that they could, it is not unheard of for researchers or archaeologists to have seen them near ruins or ancient civilizations as they are hubs for lost knowledge. The older that they grow the more tails they gain signifying their experience and wisdom. Most Adolfos only gain six tails in their lifetime, any more than that are said to be impossible, there have been rumors of them being able to hold up to ten tails if they live long enough. The Adolfos are one of the more longer lived races, as none have been recorded dying of old age which lends to their thirst for knowledge as they know that they have a long time before death comes for them.

Loyal to Only Their Family

When the time comes for them to leave their family, it is done without fanfare as the parents knew that the day would come and wish them the best hunting for a mate and knowledge. The Adolfos mate for life and if they lose them they will usually mourn them for years before passing away from grief, this process can take decades before they give out. They are no strangers to a fight as most carry some sort of armament with them at all times, be it a broadsword, glaive or some other sharp weapon. 

If an Adolfos is alone they are either on a search for knowledge, an orphan or a widow(er). If orphaned the pup will wander without cause, until it finds something to give it purpose, orphaned Adolfos tend to be more aggressive and prone to bouts of depression. A widowed wolf will tend to be apathetic towards everything and prone to think about their spouse leaving them open in battle or an unpleasant situation. 

A Tale of Sadness

Sadly as they are beast like in appearance they are often mistaken for common wolves and the like and tend to be distrustful of human especially as they are the main cause of hunting related deaths. 

Adolfos' lifespan is unknown as none have been recorded to die of old age, some scholars suspect that they are not entirely mortal and they are the remnants of some ancient knowledge god's servants who have escaped its grasp.

 Adolfos Names

The Adolfos typically have names long thought to be lost to the ages or some hero of ancient lore, and very rarely do they stray from this naming convention.

Adolfos 2.0 Traits

Being of beastly nature they have traits common to most beasts and a few others.

Natural Weapons

Your bite and claws are deadly in a pinch, which you can use to make unarmed strikes. If you hit with them, you deal slashing damage equal to 1d4 + your Strength modifier, instead of the bludgeoning damage normal for an unarmed strike.

Age

No one truly knows if these beings die of old age, or simply die in silence.

Size

At their shoulders they reach 5 feet tall and when their head is included they can easily tower over 6 feet tall. Weighing anywhere from 200-350 lbs they are hulking beasts made for long runs, climbing and speed.

Ability Score Increase

Due to the almost compulsive nature to hoard knowledge these creatures are incredibly smart. Also, it is not easy getting to those ruins, +2 to intelligence and +1 to dexterity. 

Darkvision

 You can’t discern color in Darkness, only Shades of Gray.

Superior Sense Of Smell

Due to being a beast you are able to track people no matter what, your olfactory senses are top notch and you never forget a smell. This trait also lets you smell things like fear, happines ect. When in large cities or towns you can easily be overwhelmed. You gain proficiency in survival.

Superior Hearing

As a wolf-like creature you are able to hear things others cannot and it is near impossible for someone to sneak up in you. You gain proficiency in deception.

Impossible Climb

A queer ability which allows for the Adolfos to climb any surfaces. Movement is 30 feet on any surface they is not upside down, in that case it is instead 15 feet.

No Hands

As a beast you lack hands to use weapons that need hands to use. As well as take off any clothes placed on you.

Linguistic

As a result of an Adolfos' upbringing they are extremely literate and can easily understand most races. You gain proficiency in history and choose four additional languages. 

Carnivorous

If one consumes something that is not meat they will be weakened which halves all movement rounded up to the nearest five and makes them more prone to stumbling. Disadvantage on any acrobatics checks in this state.

Junger Adolfos

The youngest of the Adolfos, they are more spry and battle ready then even their close peers as they have just left their family. These rambunctious Adolfos take +1 to dexterity, +1 to strength and +1 to intelligence.

Ability Score Increase

Due to being young you are more spry than other Adolfos. +1 to dexterity, strength and intelligence.

Wächter Adolfos

Having studied more combat oriented books as a pup you are ready to fight at a moments notice. Take +2 to strength and +1 to intelligence.

Ability Score Increase

As you grew up on action stories you are ready to fight in a moments notice, +2 to strength and +1 to intelligence.

True paragons of knowledge, these scholarly beings are extraordinarily wise and intelligent, rivaling the best scholars of any land. Take +2 to wisdom and +1 to intelligence.
