Backstory
Long ago a group of Mind Flayers were doing all sorts of research. Through this research prototype Oblexes were created, though, they were not as advanced or intelligent as later created true Oblexes. However, prototype Oblexes were taken by another group of Mind Flayers to research further by trying to create intelligent slaves for Mind Flayers.
While main project focused on creating advanced scouts for Mind Flayers, side project instead tried to merge genetic material of various creatures to create powerful fighting force. All sorts of creatures were used for experiments, some showed promise, while other were plain disappointment.
Research continued for quite long time, various of creatures were created, but because most of them did not show any promising results, so they needed to be disposed. For this reason Mind Flayer researchers created a monstrous creature which could feed on anything. All failed experiments were fed to this creature, it grow larger and larger, and this creature mutated without Mind Flayer's notice.
At some point of time research facility of Mind Flayers was attacked and partially destroyed. This left the mutated beast all alone, with nothing to feed on. It was trapped, had no way to move out, it had no way to feed itself, so it died. Yet, this was not the end for this creature, because out of its corpse new race emerged. This race had genetic material of various other creatures, however, it was not directly related to any other creature. These new creatures started moving through research facility, looked for things to eat, learned about the place they were at and accidentally activated inter-dimensional gateway device which opened gates into several other worlds. So, these creatures stepped through gates and started feeding on everything they could.
Several hundred of years passed, these creatures reconnected with their creators and were names as "Aabar'Ooze Chimeras", though, both sides viewed each other with hostility. To Mind Flayers these creatures were just some failed experiments, and to Aabar'Oozes they creatures were heartless monster who abandoned their own creation.

Biology
Aabar'Ooze Chimeras have unique biology. They can change shape of their flesh however they want, allowing them both to extend it, liquefied it and change shape of it to mimic other things. However, they can not change their bone structure (except for facial fangs) and thus they can only mimic humanoids of similar size. However, they still can mimic natural substances like iron, wood or stone and thus blend with their surroundings better than other creatures. These qualities made Aabar'Oozes as great predators, especially, because they are carnivores. They can eat any meat they find and they have no preference for any kind of meat, expect members of their own race.
Their flesh is a sensory organ as it can sense heat, it can sense vibrations in the air and in the ground. So, while they do not have yes, they do not rely on vision to hunt. All of their bases and settlements are underground in dungeons, caves and similar places, so lack of sight does not inhibit them. In fact, they have no need of sight, because due to their sensitivity to sound and heat they can perceive everything within certain radius of them with pin-point accuracy.
Interestingly, these creatures do not have blood. Inside of their bodies their flesh is always in liquid form and transfer nutrients though physical mechanisms like osmosis. However, they do have other liquids flowing though them, mainly - acid. Whenever they grapple someone or are attacking at close range by someone, then they can release concentrate acid. Due to this fighting them at close range is a very bad idea.
Due to their ability to change their appearance they can morph into copies of other humanoids. Their appearance change to near perfect copy of anything they have touched or devoured. However, they can not morph into something they have never touched and even if they morph into something with eyes, they still not be able to see through those eyes, so it is easy to figure if someone is a Aabar'Ooze in a disguise: just show something to them and ask what color that thing is.
The most bizarre aspect of these creatures, despite all other, most likely is their reproduction cycle. They have three ways to reproduce: asexually, sexually and by regression. Each process is quite complex and ties directly to their biological ancestry. However, each process produce different kind of offspring.
Asexual reproduction refer to their innate ability to make tiny clones of themselves. It usually takes about 15-16 weeks to form these clones within their bodies. Each of these clones possess identical genes and memories of the original. At the end of of 15th week Aabar'Ooze will regurgitate about 4-6 tiny clones. These clones will then become independent and seek food. Each clone will reach maturity in about 80-90 weeks. Due to clones possessing the same memories of the original, this causes particular clans to form among Aabar'Ooze's society.
Sexual reproduction refers to reproduction system like most other humanoids. Via this method both parents pool their genes together and form a new individual which does not possess memories of the parents and possess entirely new genetic material. Whole pregnancy takes about 20-20 weeks and birthed individual mature in about 120-125 weeks. Interestingly, both parents can become pregnant if they chose to. Though, it is generally accepted among their society for only one parent (usually female) to become pregnant.
Regression reproduction is particularly unique. At the end of their life their bodies form a cocoon within their bodies and their cells cause to be pulled into it. Fighting that cocoon a clone is formed with same genes and memories of the original. After 4 days the cocoon ruptures and a younger version of the dead individual emerges. This younger version usually takes 1 week to mature. This reproduction could be technically classed as rebirth, and it can happen regardless if the individual died from old age or if they were killed by someone else.

Society
Society of Aabar'Oozes are quite expansive. They have a capital city (birthplace of their race) and many settlements in several worlds. However, their settlements are quite removed from other races, so they rarely interacted with other races. Because of that they formed their own unique society with their own way of governing.
Aabar'Oozes holds elections every year to decide who will be their representatives in the senate. Senate consists of 200 elected officials and its main purpose is drafting laws. Senate operates on the principle of debate thus every new law they want to pass and every existing law they want to change must be debated. However, senate does not have the power to pass the laws. If senates agrees on validity of the law, then it requests council of ministers to either pass it or reject it. Council of ministers is also elected, consisting of 20 members, however, they are elected every 5 years. Council of ministers exists to pass the laws or changes to existing laws presented by senate. In addition, council also have certain powers over social matter and acts as highest experts of those manners. Council's powers are regulated by the highest tribunal. Highest tribunal are supreme judges of Aabar'Ooze's society. Like true judges, they decide legality of actions of other officials, regular citizen and any outsider within Aabar'Ooze's society. There judges are appointed supreme leader. So, while senate and council of ministers are elected, highest tribunal is not elected.
Political power in this society is split among various institutions and there are all sorts of various checks to balance everything, except for supreme leader. Supreme leader is elected every 50 years, however, only 3 individuals have been elected as supreme leaders. Interestingly, supreme leader is above the law and can do whatever they want to do, but rarely do. Usually, supreme leaders act something like a spiritual guide and keeper of their culture. All celebrations are held by supreme leader, all cultural things comes from supreme leader and everyone in trouble turn to supreme leader for guidance.
In Aabar'Ooze's society authority and trust are very important. Individuals in power nearly never abuse their power, and if they do, they do it in absolute secret.  While crime and criminals exists in this society, but criminals are not typically chaotic in their nature. Even criminals respect authority and values trust among others.
So, typically most Aabar'Oozes are either lawful or neutral, however, this goes slightly against their nature. Their society is held together through social authority and pretty strict laws. Without these thing true nature of Aabar'Oozes would emerge and it is nasty. Their true nature is chaotic and monstrous - like savage beasts they would rampage through out everywhere. This is their true nature, but leaders of this society realized this long ago and did everything they could to suppress it. So, while Aabar'Oozes seems to be civilized and advanced, deep down they are just plain monsters playing pretend. However, they believe so much in the  game they play that they rather banish themselves out of their society than reveal their true nature, and that is why trust among them is so important - they trust each other to behave and follow the law, and they trust each other to understand why someone might break the law.

One above all
In history of Aabar'Oozes there were only three supreme leaders elected. All of three were elected numerous of times. First supreme leader elected was named Zul'Zarum; second - Abalo'Balo; and third was named as Gazu'Gazu. Current serving supreme leader is Abalo'Balo and he exiled Gazu'Gazu out of Aabar'Ooze's society. Only supreme leader can exile an individual who previously served as government's official.
Unlike other government's employees or elected officials, supreme leaders is viewed as more than individual in power. Daily prayers are held to pray for and to supreme leader. Arts is being crafted for supreme leader. Everyone see supreme leader as almost divine being. Aabar'Oozes channel their faith through their supreme leader, so every supreme leader gains divine powers. Source of these powers and unknown to common citizen, however, it is often viewed as a sign that currently serving supreme leader is the best they could have, so that's why Aabar'Oozes elect the same person several times in the row.
Every supreme leader gains various kind of powers, and most of them are magical. Majority of them focus around bodily enhancement and bodily manipulation. Though, while it may look like these powers are granted through worship of citizen, however, true nature of them is quite different.

Deity
While supreme leader is serving, then supreme leader becomes an avatar for their secret deity. This secret deity is a new one and does not have a physical form. Instead, it exists within very single Aabar'Ooze. Their minds structures like layers on top of other layers. Each layer add more individuality to them, however, the deepest layer of their mind is identical to every one of them, because all of them were born out of single creature. This one identical level of mind connects all individuals in something like a network and through prays and belief this network is connected to every individual. However, only the supreme leader is aware of this network and only supreme leader can use it. This mind network is like a separate dimension which is power by thousands of minds. Within it their true deity exists and it grants divine powers to supreme leader. To supreme leader this deity appear like a golden light and it could grant all sorts of powers:

  • Golden shine shell - ability to temporally resist all magic;
  • Metal reflect shell - ability to temporally deflect all physical attacks;
  • True pudding - ability to liquefy the entire body of the user allowing the user to split their body apart and later join all part back together;
  • Mindground order - ability to take direct control of any Aabar'Ooze individual in any place for indefinite amount of time;
  • Rapid rebirth - ability to go through regression and mature process in less than a hour;
  • Paradise slime paradise - ability to control any living creature by injecting that creature with living cells of the user;
  • Underworld's carapace - ability to form sharp spikes on the skin of the user and late release these spikes in a volley of destruction;
  • Golden Ooze-might - ability to temporally increase physical strength of the user;

And so on. Even those who were supreme leaders are not entire sure to hat kind of powers they can get from their deity. However, they are sure about one thing - their deity is not benevolent. In fact, their deity might be the true reason to monstrous nature of Aabar'Oozes. Or maybe, this deity was formed by their true nature and the social need to suppress it. Still, origin of it doesn't really matter and only the power it grants truly maters. Due to power it provides to supreme leader, most of Aabar'Oozes assume that supreme leader is stronger than elder dragons can could actually be nearly as strong as some gods. Though, this belief is not based on their experience, so it is not entirely accurate.
Aabar'Ooze's secret deity also have its own powers. It hold all the memories of every single Aabar'Ooze who have ever existed. This ability grants this deity massive amount of information and ability to tract everyone and everything within Aabar'Ooze's society. Even exiled individuals and adventurers are still connected to this secret deity and thus it can rapidly learn about events in lots of different worlds.
Secret deity of Aabar'Ooze's has a goal. This goal is a secret to current supreme leader, but previous supreme leader managed to learn about it. This secret is quite simple, actually - to manifest in the physical world. While this deity exists solely in subconscious minds of Aabar'Oozes, it still had lots of power to grant to its avatar. However, if it were to find a way to manifest itself in a physical form, then it would be an entirely different matter. It would be hard for anyone to speculate what it would do, but based on true nature of Aabar'Oozes, it is quite likely that this deity would go into destructive rampage and devour everything in its path.

Exiles and adventurers
Over many years lots of Aabar'Oozes decided to become independent adventurers or were exiled. Most of them shapeshift into other humanoids and try to blend in and live among other races. Most of them live independently and don't seek other members of their own race, and due to living outside of their society, they are usually unaware about that happens within their original homeland.
Both adventurers and exiles are viewed negatively in Aabar'Ooze's society. Even common criminals are viewed better, because to them being a part of their society is more important that being lawful. Both participating in their society and participating in elections are seen as the greatest values, so all exiles and adventures have no value and are the worst among worst in the eyes of common citizen. So, adventurers nearly never return to Aabar'Ooze's society.
Exiles, however, are forced out of the society. Most of them are heinous criminals and political dissidents. But, while adventurers choose to remove themselves from Aabar'Ooze's  society, exiles are removed by either highest tribunal or by supreme leader.
Any Aabar'Ooze anyone might meet in the world are nearly always either adventurers or exiles. Though, even if you met one, then you wouldn't know about it, because they always hide their true form.

Red Rose Clan
When first Aabar'Ooze Chimeras were born, some of them decided to only reproduce asexually and thus produced only clones of themselves. This clan can be traced to one single individual and every member of this clan are clones of the first individual. This first individual had red skin and was very charismatic. And because the first individual was a female, that means that every member of this clan is female (with few very specific exceptions due to mutations). Most members of this clan are dedicated to maintain their clan's purity, so they reproduce solely be producing clones of themselves.
Red Rose clan have very good reputation through out Aabar'Ooze's society. Most of them important figures in society: from politicians to doctors. They are caring and friendly, so it is no wonder that they are easily elected into power. However, power does corrupt. This clan was and still is the most politically powerful clan in Aabar'Ooze's society and members of this clan have certain amount of privileges not afforded to common citizen. And because they have it, so they use it. Having special privileges they view as status symbol and other trust in it, because other believe that Red Rose clan will want to maintain their status and will work for whole society to maintain their status. But like everywhere, it is not always the case. So, while Red Rose clan have the most legal power in the society, they always have the most illegal power in the society. Most of major criminal and crime bosses are members of this clan. Yet, Re Rose clan's criminals are rarely exiled, because they holds majority of political power.

Magic Mist Clan
When first Aabar'Ooze' Chimeras were born, some of them decided to only reproduce asexually and thus produced only clones of themselves. This clan can be traced to one single individual and every member of this clan are clones of the first individual. This first individual had blue skin and was very smart. And because the first individual was a male, that means that every member of this clan is male (with few very specific exceptions due to mutations). Most members of this clan are dedicated to maintain their clan's purity, so they reproduce solely be producing clones of themselves.
This clan can be described as either isolationist or adventurous. That's because members of this clan typically either isolate themselves to study magic or become adventures to explore the world. They rarely have any interest in politics and societies they live in. They are often single minded and most of Aabar'Ooze crafters are of this clan. All Aabar'Ooze jewelry, clothes, armors and weapons are made by this clan. All buildings were designed by this clan. Due to their single-minded focus they are valued greatly and often entrusted with all things where you need to do something very specific. Most of social services (schooling, building maintenance, designing things, etc) are entrusted to this clan.

Violent Violet Clan
This clan was born when some members of Red Rose and Magic Mist clans decided to form families and have children of their own. However, unlike other two clans, this clan form families within their clan and reproduce though sexual reproduction. But, like other two clan, this clan also tries to maintain its purity.
Unlike other two major clans, this one is not trusted or relied on too much. Members of this clan are quite independent, but also family focused. Their view themselves and their families as more important that society they live in. Thus, they are prone to conflicts among other clans and common citizen. Majority of exiles belong to this clan and for a good reason.
Violent Violet clan members are have violet skin and their clan's name describes them. They are usually quite violent and rarely compromise. They do not believe in social norms and taboos, thus it is very hard to control them within Aabar'Ooze's society.
Survival of the fittest - this phrase can describe them the most. They are survivalist and most of exiles of this clan do not mind being exiled.

Green Gold Clan
This clan is more ancient than both Red Rose and Magic Mist clans. It officially started from the first being who gave birth to this race. The first creature originally gave birth to 9 individuals with slight variation to their genes, but one of those individuals inherited perfect copy of genes from the first creature. This individual, unlike other, could only reproduce asexually and through regression, however, its asexual reproduction is also quite unique. Instead of creating small clones within their body, members of this clan actually split into two completely identical individuals. They do not possess gender, so they can only increase their numbers by splitting in two. So, because of that, this clan have only few hundreds of members. Yet, recently this whole clan was exiled by supreme leader.
This clan have greenish tint to their skin and they can glow in the dark slightly. They also are quite skeptic about everything, they rarely trust anyone, so, they are not pleasant to be with. They aren't particularly friendly, but they aren't hostile to everyone either. Most of them could be described as neutral, but with tendency towards chaotic evil.
Other first Aabar'Oozes were born without a class of their own, so they were free to become whoever they wanted. However, first member of Green Gold clan was born as sorcerer, so all members of this class have innate ability to cast spells, even if they do not have any talent or wish to do so.

Commoners
Other Aabar'Oozes formed families, had children, some of other clans mixed and diluted their genes further. So, everyone who weren't members of other three clans simply a mixture of every trait and become simply common Aabar'Oozes. They have gray skin and they are very diverse. They do not particular traits and each individual can be very different from other individual.
Unlike clans who try to maintain their genetic purity, commoners enjoy free life and free love. So, there are way more commoners than all other four clans combined.

Stained Steel Clan
Withing Aabar'Oozes genes there are sorts of genes. One of these genes is called as cursed gene. This cursed genes is responsible for all sorts of mutation within Aabar'Oozes (male Red Roses, female Magic Mists, etc). Typically this gene is not active and rarely activates. Even when it activates, then it triggers only minor mutations. However, from time to time, an individual is born which have the cursed gene running at its maximum. Skin of these individuals are metallic in color, they are slightly heavier then others Aabar'Oozes and they possess unique powers. Also, their minds are not connected to the network and thus they can not be controlled and be spied on by secret deity. They are also quite chaotic, so other Aabar'Oozes are quite afraid of these individuals and they are always exiled on birth.
These individuals are called cursed, even if all Aabar'Oozes have this gene. Cursed ones could be technically described as higher evolutionary state of their race, but this state is incomplete. Cursed Aabar'Oozes have genders, however, they can't multiply and they can only go through regression to extend existence of their genes. Because they can;t have children of them own cause quite a lot of sorrow among them and being exiled on birth fills them with despair. These individual rarely live longer than few years, not because of their biology, but because out of disregard to their lives. They live lives without purpose, so they do not care for their lives.
Interestingly, these individuals technically have all traits of other clans and can be called as the strongest members of their race. However, their existence threaten Aabar'Ooze's society, so their power does not play into their value.
Those few who survive in outside world usually become warlocks or eldritch knights, though, like Green Gold clan, they can cast spells regardless of what class they take.
