Homebrew Aeldrin, Elven Blood Human Species Details

"It was a natural thing really.  The dominance of man was seen by many as inevitable, and the elven people known for there... hah, wisdom?  They welcomed us with open arms, but for the few Elves of the Shadow and the forgotten Green.  We brought with us industry, innovation, and strength of arms.  They brought beauty, culture, and most importantly, life... the promise of even a few extra years is quite the temptation.  But, elves are rare, and not without there pride.  Like in most things, it was the rich and the nobility whom profited.  Generation upon generation marrying into the elven families, and marrying elves into there own bloodlines, mixing the blood together, creating whole generations of the Faen, the Eldar, and the Aeldrin.  In the end, there are few noble families in all the land that don't have some elven blood in them, keeping them looking young, and fit, even when they are well past there prime.  For many of these families, they try there hardest to preserve there elven blood through marriage, and entire bloodlines are in truth Aeldrin, of the quarter blood.  Such is Nobility... anything to feel superior, eh?                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                             -An unknown prisoner, from the Hellhold (A.E. 673)

An Ancient Bloodline

The blood of the Elves is the blood of the Ancients.  When once the gods spoke to man with the voices of the heavens and the Titans and Aen Sidhe walked the earth, the Elves began, the mortal descendants of those great Fae beings.  Their blood contains a hint of the timelessness, the music, and the enchantment they feel towards the world, and that divine spark is difficult to erase.

Even so far departed from that ancient blood, the Aeldrin feel it, that sense of wonder.  Their appearance may be almost entirely human, barely a hint of elvish heritage but for the eyes and the tops of their ears, but they can never forget the feeling in their blood, deep down.  They become lost in a sonnet, feel the tingle of magic as it courses in the world around them, and feel the depths of night open before their eyes.

But chiefly amongst all the ways in which the Aeldrin feel the traces of Elven heritage, is in time.  An Aeldrin’s age is almost impossible to judge by human standards, and the lifespan of one can be anywhere from 20 to 100 years longer than your average human, all while looking to be middle aged at the latest.

A Lost History

The Aeldrin may be of Elven descent, and may be able to relate in many strong ways to the elven feelings about art, music, and the finer things in life, but they are at the end of the day, humans.  They live longer, look younger, and have a sense of appreciation towards the world rarely found amongst most humans, but their sense of time is still rushed and reckless.

Aeldrin’s have a human temperament, and sense of urgency.  Their ambitions are still very much tied to the material world, and the familial and interpersonal bonds they experience in life are direct, and not passive like those of elven culture.  Rather than retreat to contemplate, they  work through, instead of patiently waiting, they find something to occupy their time.  The Elven detachment and composure may be learned by them as they grow on in years, but is not a natural state.

A Place in Society

Since the times before the Cataclysm (My fantasy world, fudge it +/- 700 years ago), the Elven and Human people have been one, living together, building their great empire, and spreading their hands across the vast oceans.  The Aeldrin are one of the greatest representatives of this, and most of them are viewed accordingly.

Most Aelrdin are living in the higher rungs of human society, as the strongest elven blood comes from the Wealthy and the Noble families of old.  As such most Aeldrin come from the same, well to do backgrounds and privileged, ancient bloodlines with a list of ancestors denoting their many deeds, and names, and titles, and parcels of land.  But even the ones who are not of such prestigious origins find their heritage to be a great boon, as many would enjoy the company and shared life of an Aeldrin.  The spouse that never fears age, the almost certain belief in the elven senses of intelligence, talent, skill and poise.  Much to the contrary, the world appreciates the Aeldrin in many ways more than the purer of blood Eldar (half-elves), or Faen (Purebloods, or as close as it gets these days).

Social Connections and Expectations

Nobles are granted much in the way of contacts, wealth, and reputation in the world based upon there familial origins.  However this is a double edged sword, and comes with a great deal of expectations.  Simply being a noble is not enough, you have to act like one, dress like one, bear appropriate identification and only engage in the proper sort of public behaviors and activities.  While many excuses might be made for a noble drinking to excess, there are few made for if one should disgrace the family name.

Nobles may gain Advantage on many Social Ability checks while dressed appropriately and when acting within there role, however when there identity is discovered outside those bounds, they will frequently be at a Disadvantage, as no one will want to be party to the fall of one of the social elite.  Generally the conditions would be when unencumbered, wearing at least Fine Clothes, and wearing a signet ring.  Certain attention might be paid to grooming and bathing as well (caves do not smell good, as it turns out.  The goblin guts don't help I'm sure).  The alternative is of course, that they conceal there identity, which may work for a time.  However, should that identity be exposed, the consequences may be tragic, up to and including members of there family potentially sending guardsmen or other official to bring the noble in question before the family for chastisement.  Basically, they are a walking plot-hook, savvy?

Scholar

There are many professions associated with it, but there will always be a use for the more educated and mentally inclined members of society.  Whether is advising tactics on the battlefield, protecting the knowledge held within an ancient library, or innovation in a scientific field, the erudite find a place in life.
