Homebrew Aelphias Species Details

Though it is unknown if the Aelphias were happy accidents or created magically by chance, their presence is now forever cemented within the world. Existing in a variety of environments, the Aelphias are well known to reflect at least some part of their plant kin in their attitudes and mannerisms.

 

Subrace

There are 4 subraces of Aelphias, choose one of these subraces.

Aelphias Traits

Your Aelphias character has abilities inspired and reinforcing their floral heritage.

Ability Score Increase

Your Wisdom Score increases by 1.

Age

Aelphias are born fully realized, and do not appear to age. There is no recorded case of an Aelphias dying of old age.

Alignment

Aelphias tend to be neutrally aligned, like the nature they come from.

Size

Your size is medium.

Speed

Your base walking speed is 30 feet.

Natural Nutrition

You do not need to eat food as long as you have access to water and at least 8 hours of sunlight or moonlight (decided on character creation) a day.

Aelphias Affinity

You gain proficiency in Animal Handling, Nature or Survival skill.

Languages

You know common and Sylvan.

Bark Aelphias

Covered in a protective thick skin and as sturdy as any tree well rooted, you cannot be knocked down or back. You can endure blows others couldn't, and are often looked too for your resolve.

Ability Score Increase

Your Constitution score increases by 2.

Natural Armor

You have tough, bark like skin. When you aren’t wearing armor, your AC is 13 + your Constitution modifier. You can use your natural armor to determine your AC if the armor you wear would leave you with a lower AC. A shield’s benefits apply as normal while you use your natural armor.

Staying Power

When you take damage, you can use your reaction to gain half the damage taken as temporary hitpoints. You cannot use this feature if the damage was fire, necrotic, or psychic. After using this trait, you cannot use it again until you finish a long rest.

Deep Rooting

When targeted by an effect that would force you to move or go prone, such as the Thorn Whip spell, or the Shove action, you may attempt a DC 16 Constitution saving throw to ignore the forced movement.

Creeping Aelphias

Your body is that of crawling vines and stalks wrapped around each other and possibly blooming. Your complex makeup allows for a greater deal of flexibility then your other Aelphias kin.

Ability Score Increase

Your Dexterity score increases by 2.

Latching Vines

You gain a climb speed of 30 feet.

Natural Whips

You gain a natural attack equal to that of a whip, which you are considered proficient in. The natural attack does 1D4 slashing, and has Finesse and Reach.

Floral Aelphias

You invoke the imagery and beauty of a blooming flower. From the brightest sunflower to the most reserved Jade Vine, you appearance cant help but garner you looks from strangers, and smiles from children. You naturally uplift the room when you enter, and your pleasant scent enchants those around you.

Ability Score Increase

Your Charisma score increases by 2.

Floral Scent

Once per day, you may cast Charm Person or Calm Emotions. Once you cast a spell using this trait, you can't cast either until you finish a long rest. You can also cast either of these spells using any spell slots you have of the appropriate level.

Charisma is your spellcasting ability for these spells when you cast them with this trait. 

Cyclical Bloom

Choose if you bloom during the day or at night gaining either advantage on Charisma saving throws, or 60 feet of Darkvision respectively.

Fungal Aelphias

You embody some unsavory, but required part of the life cycle. Whether you are moss, mushroom, or something else entirely, you represent that end of life, and the natural cleanup nature creates to make way for new life.

Ability Score Increase

You may increase a single stat (that is not wisdom) by 2.

Adaptability

Your natural ability to adapt to the world around you is unchallenged, allowing you to possibly negate some environmental effects others may suffer from. When you finish a long rest, you may choose a damage type from a list. You gain resistance to that damage type until you choose another during a long rest. The possibly damage types to choose from are Acid,  Necrotic, or Poison.

Decay Familiarity

Due to your plant cousins familiarity of decaying matter and the natural cycle of life, you gain advantage on medicine checks to identify cause of death and length of time the target has deceased.
