You point to another creature and shout the command word to cause the target to scream uncontrollably for the duration. The target must make a Wisdom saving throw, on a failed save the target screams uncontrollably for the duration. The target has some ability to influence what they are screaming but it is largely unintelligible. The target can make a wisdom saving throw at the end of it's turn to end the effect.
While screaming, the target is naturally unable to cast any spells that require a verbal component and any creature able to hear within 10 feet of the target must make a Constitution saving throw against your spell save DC, on a failed save the creature is deafened.
The deafened creature remains deafened while within 10 feet of the source of the screaming. The deafened condition ends at the end of the creature's next turn.
Creatures unable to speak are unaffected by this spell.
Note: Before I get a lot of hateful comments, my only goal with this revision was to take this great spell and make it a little more refined for playability seeing that there's been lots of questions about how to use it and the spell has not been modified since 2017. Posted May 29, 2019I like this revision, mainly because it now feels a bit more different that the command spell. Concentration, 1 minute, with a save at the end of each turn seems appropriate for a 2nd level spell that can prevent Verbal spellcasting.
A few things:
- you forgot to include WIS for the ATTACK/SAVE tag in the spell builder.
- no need to mention "against your spell save DC"; spell saving throws are *always* against the caster's spell save DC, unless the description says otherwise (cf. PHB ch. 10, "Spellcasting" > "Saving Throws").
- typo: at the end of *it's* turn > at the end of its turn
- "The deafened creature remains deafened while within 10 feet of the source of the screaming. The deafened condition ends at the end of the creature's next turn." …. (If it leaves the area?)
Suggestions:
- creatures are deafened while within 10 feet of the screaming target (no saving throw). [Deafened is such a weak condition imo I wonder if it warrants another saving throw for this 2nd level spell].
- put your personal note at the end in a spoiler box [using the "!" icon in the editing window] so the text is hidden on the character sheet.
