You touch a creature that has died within the last minute. That creature returns to life with 1 hit point. This spell can't return to life a creature that has died of old age, nor can it restore any missing body parts.
* - (diamonds worth 300 gp, which the spell consumes)
Most wizard of Sorcerers etc players have arcane focuses so in most cases for spells they don't need to spend gold.
I was just hunting around to add to my character sheet and ealized they were not there. This seems an easy thing to do. +1
The games I have been in are similiar but basically if something is consumed and has value - you have to buy it. this is one of those "session zero" topics that a DM should decide how he will handle this.
Would this spell and others that revive a dead character such as 'Raise dead' work on a warforged and other constructs?
So just needing a little clarification on the components part. “Diamonds worth 300 gp” right? So more than one is required? I know some DMs like myself will allow a single diamond worth 300gp, but say I have 2 diamonds worth 200 gp, will the spell consume both? Or just leave me with a chuck worth 100gp? And does the plural “diamonds” qualify diamond dust to then work as a component
Not if you counterspell it.
Question.. if i killed a bandit, use finger of death, then use revivify.. will the effect of finger of death, like the capability of permanently under your command goes away too?
Critical Role made a video in their Handbooker Helper series about material components for spells. You have a choice when making your character of usually choosing a component bag or an arcane focus.
With a component bag, you assume the PC has the components they need in the bag to cast the spell; it just gives the spell some roleplaying flavor. With an arcane focus, the focus channels those components needed in a different way through magical means.
However, it is written in the rules that when a spell has a material component that comes with a cost (such as this spell), the caster should have this in their inventory and the spell consumes it. These are considered spells that are more powerful and reality bending, so they have a true cost. The idea is if everyone’s running around casting revivify (or other spells with costs) all the time, then the risk of battle is lessened if you know your cleric could just revivify them during battle.
I've died more times than I can remeber
It would!
Bought and download Tasha's which shows this as a druid spell along with fire shield yet it's not showing on my prepared spells, as Tasha's doesn't state it being tied to a specific circle
This is because it's intended that only true resurrection can make an undead creature living again. Every other resurrection spell stipulates that it can't resurrect an undead creature, why should revivify be any different?
no, cause the Mending spell fixes one small tear or rip, plus it takes a full minute to cast and revivify only works if the target has died less than a minute ago.
because its shown later in the Tasha's Druid section that Revivify is only given to the Circle of Wildfire subclass of druids.
What would happen if the player in question was missing a limb, but the rest of the party had that lost limb? could they somehow graft it on and revive said fallen player?
"I promise you have my axes for this war, now you say you need my diamonds?" the dwarf-lord asked incredulously. "O' course my liege," said the long bearded cleric. "It's quite simple. See, when a mortal dies, his soul takes a moment to get account o' things and look around a wee bit. Durin' that short intermission, I shoves this diamond into yer fallen warrior's mouth like so, hearken his spirit back where it belongs, and -pop!- The diamond serves as the perfect conduit fer guidin' souls back tae their right bodies." "Aaah! And THEN I get the diamonds back!" The king's eyes smiled with greed. "Nae sire! The soul shatters out, into the body, vaporizing the gem into wee sherds o' aether. But be nae afeard... by Moradin, that dwarf'll swing his axe once more!" The cleric then bowed and left his lord to contemplate the true value of life.
I like to think the diamonds are studded into the recipient's face like that Bond villain.
So upon a NPCs death my necromancer cast GENTLE REPOSE.... we are 7days from our NPC who knows Revivify.... will Revivify work?
I'd say yes, as long as Gentle Repose was cast within one minute of death. It lasts for 10 days, so if you cast Revivify 7 days later, it'll work.
Raise Dead is a 5th level spell and specifies that the creature's soul has to be willing to return in order for that person to be revived. What if a Lich has just snatched the soul of a party member and a quick Wizard cast Revivify before the group makes their escape?
Is that recently-slain person now soulless, or would the spell fail?
