All of you have been contacted by Kreus Redhilt, mayor of the remote town of Farishton. Though he didn't specify what the problem was, his message seemed urgent and he asked you to come as quickly as you could. That was two days ago. Now, you've arrived at Farishton, a small village that sits at the edge of the vast Cinderstone Forest. Strangely, the forest seems to be a shade of brown, billowing with grey fog. Every once in a while, you catch a glimpse of a small flicker of movement in the mist, which quickly fades into stillness.
In the center of the town square, next to an empty fountain, is Kreus, an aged human who's hair is just beginning to grey. He motions for each of you to come over, ignoring the stares of the townsfolk.

An old water genasi, robed in damp brown augur's clothes, has stubbornly been walking, rather than riding, his way into town, supported by a gnarled old driftwood staff. His gray hair and beard seem to be constantly dripping with water, and he's trailing puddles of water wherever he goes. Seeing the man beckoning him, he grumbles and heads in that direction. "And you'd be Kreus?" he says, none too happily.
you see a wolf human hybrid, galloping into town on all four legs. they are wearing a dark cloak with a heavy metal breastplate underneath, and a shortsword on their waist. hello, he says darkly to Kreus. hello.

3 times, I have played level 20 characters. These experiences normally lead my sanity to divide as my other 4 players square up out of annoyance. In addition, 172 people polled by Eris, resident eldritch evil, say their sanity was a fifth of what is was after tracking max level combat with Solanar and Atemos. A while ago, I was rooted in fear after my character was stabbed. But the time was around 8.91 seconds before the end, and I rounded the fight out with a bang.
"I'm Kreus," the man says, his voice hoarse but still strong. "I'm glad you came." His pale blue eyes flick back and forth between the two.

A humanoid composed entirely of roots, branches, wood, and other tree material approaches the man unhurriedly, stopping every now and then to investigate something that catches his curiosity. He stands about 6 feet tall, and would impose an intimidating figure, if it weren't for the kind and curios expression.
Finally, he reaches Kreus. "I am Willow. What have have you called us here to do?" He says slowly, with a voice that sounds deeply wise.

"There's been a kidnapping," Kreus says gravely. "The innkeeper's daughter, Kirana. We don't know much, but she was taken in the dead of night, and the ones who took her had tracks leading into the Cinderstone Forests. Strange things have happened there of late. A farmer named Thoril overheard the kidnappers talking, and he thinks they intent to sacrifice Kirana for some mad ritual."
A thin and pink-skinned woman arrives after the tree-person.
'You called, master Redhilt? As ever, I am gladly at your service.'
"I am," Kreus says. "Thank you for coming."
