Welcome to Baldur’s Gate, a veritable nest of rats and vipers clinging to the rocky slopes overlooking the Chionthar River. From their high perches in the Upper City, the local nobles — known as patriars — gaze down with veiled contempt upon the common rabble in the grimy Lower City, which hugs the foggy harbor. The whole of Baldur’s Gate reeks of blood, crime, and opportunity. One can easily fathom why pirates and traders are drawn to this place like flies to a carcass.
Following the river farther east would eventually lead you to Elturel, capital of the holy land of Elturgard — or at least that was the case until a few days ago. The flood of refugees from Elturel has gotten worse since news first arrived that the city has fallen. Everyone is saying Baldur’s Gate is next, but no one truly knows who or what has claimed Elturel.
The patriars pay a mercenary army called the Flaming Fist to protect their interests in Baldur’s Gate, and by extension, the city itself. The Flaming Fist has gained even more power since their charismatic leader, Ulder Ravengard, claimed the title of Grand Duke a few years ago. Apparently, Ravengard is missing. In his absence, the Flaming Fist has sealed the city’s gates to staunch the flow of refugees. No one is allowed in or out.
Nyx: You have found your way into Baldur's Gate just in time. Only a day after you arrived, rumours about Elturel being destroyed hit the city, followed by many refugees from outside the citie's borders - causing Baldur's Gate to lock their gates to new arrivals as they are simply too many. You are lost and anxious and really, you just wanna leave again. You miss the nature and wilderness from your home plane. So it comes that you're hanging out close to the Basilisk Gate, which pierces the city’s eastern wall and takes its name from the various statues that rest in its niches and perch atop its battlements, to find an opportunity to slip through the city gates.
Bryce: You have been a longstanding member of The Watch - patrolling the upper city and keeping its citizens safe. Your commander Lt. Hanson has sent you to investigate the state of the Flaming Fist. Now that their leader has gone missing, they must be falling apart. You're sent to the lower city on a mission to find out how they're handling the refugee situation and to report back. You find yourself close to the Basilisk Gate, observing a group of Flaming Fist soldiers handling the situation.
Jhasso and Halril, as you have made it known in the past that you're interested in adventures, you have received a draft into the Flaming Fist. The Flaming Fist has always drafted adventurers when they needed a hand in restoring order. Your orders are to speak to Captain Zodge at the Basilisk Gate. Unseen beyond the sealed Basilisk Gate, a dirt road stretches through the Outer City slums to the bridge known as Wyrm’s Crossing, then to distant realms beyond.
Dozens of Flaming Fist soldiers - one of them a stern looking Alysa - are trying to control an angry mob of commoners eager to leave the city. Armed with only a vague description of Captain Zodge — a tall man with long black hair and a leather eye patch — it takes you a while to find him. A fight breaks out between soldiers and commoners, and you finally spot the one-eyed captain as he wades into the fray and begins throwing punches. Just another day in the City of Blood.
A man wearing leather armour underneath a worn black cloak and holding a blackwood quarterstaff steps back from the commotion between the Flaming Fist soldier and the refugee. The man (a human, or maybe a half-elf?) has a rather unusual skin colour, of ashen grey reminding of burnt wood, deep black eyes, and acts like he doesn't want to get attention from anyone.
As soon as the soldiers are done restoring order, the ashen man tries to approach the official he is looking for. "Captain Zodge? May this man have a word..." But apparently, he is not the only one looking for the captain.
Amongst the soldiers stands a quite unique woman. The human, Alysa, is in her thirties and wears an heavy armor and a shield displaying the insignia of the Flaming Fist, a longsword sheathed on her right side and a badge that identify her as corporal. Without helmet, one could see her long auburn hair covering some part of her face and a birthmark visible on the side of her neck. But her most pronounced feature is her size. Towering the rest of the soldiers with her two meters height, and with two large arms that could break the skulls of any contenders, the city folks hesitate to engage her in a fight.
Alysa gives orders to the closest soldier to disperse the commoners, while pushing away with ease one lad that dares to approach a bit too close. “Do not test my patience!” She shouts at the him, “Stand down, go back to your business.. Nobody is going through these gates!” She was asked to keep the peace at the gate and she will follow her orders as she has done for years. "Following the laws is the only way to have an orderly civilisation."she thinks to herself
Suddenly, from the corner of her eye, she sees this strange person coming toward her captain. By pure reflexes, she instantaneously places her hand on the hilt of her sword and advances enough to protect the captain if needed. Keeping her eyes on the group of protesters, she places herself between the newcomer and her captain. With a Balduran accent she shouts in common: “That is close enough, civilian. Captain, your orders?”
While talking to Lt.Hanson, Bryce couldn't help but be thankful for the opportunity. He explains to the Lieutenant that his family never trusted the mercanry band, as his father always believed they had something to do with his mother's imprisonment. Before leaving he turns in his Uniform and standard gear. Instead he picks up some of the worn gear they had just collecting dust.
Arriving as the rumble continues, Bryce is young man in his mid 20s. His hair a dark brown/red color, its long but not passed his shoulder. His outfit is a bit worn a cloak over some chailmail, he carries a mace on his hip with a shield on his back. He thinks to himself "Is this really the best they can do in these trying times..."Letting out an audiable sigh Bryce works his way from outside the crowd. Pushing and shoving people out telling them to disperse, before arrving infront of Alysa and the stranger infront of her "Ah excuse me, I am to report here to help, I was just drafted and im looking for Captin Zodge. So i can report in...Get back!"Bryce yells when another civillain pushes on to him. He gives the civillain a slight shoulder check to stop the nudging.
Flitting in the shadows is a an unusual creature. A small androgynous humanoid, no longer than a man's forearm, with translucent dragonfly wings, hovers silently behind a rain gutter. Their yellow eyes observe the interactions below.
The blinding orb of fire in the sky gives Nyx a headache. They are hungry, lost, and confused. They are still not sure how they have arrived here. One moment, they were in the twilight realm, observing a rare celestial event - the intersection of Selune and Sol. They flew up to be in alignment with light and shadow, and then... a dizzying sensation, an explosion of color. They were transported here to this alien realm. A realm alternating between modes. Sometimes bathed in blistering heat and light, and sometimes plunged into abyssal darkness. Nyx found themselves in this city, full of strange sounds and incomprehensible people. They observe as a group of humanoids below are in an altercation. A dominant female appears to hold a large crowd at bay, when other humanoids approach her, apparently with a common purpose. Nyx says nothing and looks on with no motive other than looking for short term sustenance and survival, or a way out of this infernal plane.
Staring at the map in front of him and idly leafing through notes from his journal, Halril begrudgingly pulled his attention away from the details around a tomb he had been researching for the past several weeks and finally made eye contact with the boy standing in front of his table.
“Captain Zodge is at the gate now…I can show you the way for another 5 coppers.”
Smiling at the 6-year-old, the Half-Elf finished his drink and gathered up his gear. Stepping through the front door, he winced at the bright sunlight, dust, smell of… ‘goddess save me, what IS that smell’… and noise in the street outside of the tavern.
“I can find the gate kiddo. Been through it more times than I can count.” Handing the boy a silver piece, he started to turn but then fished in his pocket and gave the kid another.
“Letting me stay away from this smell was worth double. Thanks.”
In just a few moments, Hal turned the corner and slowed his pace until he stopped, staring at the sight in front of the gate.
Reaching into his jacket pocket, he pulled the letter from the Flaming Fist and looked down at the amount promised, up at the mob and back down at the number.
“This better be worth the money and there better be more adventure to this than punching people in the face.”
‘Yes. Go. Fame awaits you.’
Keeping the draft letter out to show to this brutish captain in front of him, Hal subconsciously turned the ring on his finger and made his way to stand out of the considerable reach of the hulking guard and waited for an opening to talk, get his orders and away from this smell!
The commoners are angry. "I need to leave to plant the fields. If I miss this window of good weather, we will starve come...", "My child is sick, I have received a letter, I need to leave right now...", "there is a wedding I have been...." "The flaming fist is just a bunch of lame idiots, go at them hard and we'll fight our way out the gate" shouts one guy from the back of the crowd. The commoners are just too happy to oblige. Quickly they surround the soldiers, who initially thought, just showing their shiny armour and weapons would be enough to calm the situation.
One young farmers boy brought a club, swings it from behind Zodge and connects with his head. The commander sways for just a couple of seconds before collecting himself, but this time is enough, for the boy to grab at his belt and rip off a set of keys. The boy turns and runs into a dark alleyway - right towards where Nyx is hiding and watching the kerfuffle.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Alysa sees the crowd encircling them. This is not going well, she thinks. It might end with some blood on our blade. She places herself in front of what seems to be the leader of the commoner and, flexing her arms, shouts with defiance “This is my last warning, one more step and i’ll break your jaw! I have not had a proper training in days, so please give me an excuse…” Alysa’ face shows no fear. On the contrary, one could see almost a smile as if she was eager to get into a fight.

Alysa sees the small thief too late. “Hey, someone stop this brat ! By order of the Flaming Fist !”
The crowd boils. Someone so brave, daring to attack the commander! There is shouts and howls of joy - so much so that Alysa's attempt to scare the crowd back cannot be heard by anyone.
Following Alysa lead, Bryce will cast Thaumaturgy causing the ground to tremor and his voice grows louder he takes a step closer this time pulling out his mace "THIS IS YOUR FINAL WARNING DISPERSE AND RETURN TO YOUR HOMES NOW!"
Nyx sees a youngling giant humanoid attack a larger giant humanoid, take something, and run away. Is this normal in this society? It doesn't seem right, but Nyx is not sure. What Nyx is quite sure of is that there is a large crowd of angry humanoids, and that the crowd is looking for a fight, for a reason to hit something. Nyx does want want to be that thing, and be torn to pieces by the giant residents of an alien plane. Nyx stays where they are, doing nothing.
The crowd freezes as the ground shakes and they hear the booming voice of Bryce. Zodge sends the closest couple of commoners to the ground with straight punches to the face.
Loosing no time, he and half of his soldiers pursue the thief. Spotting the fairy in the alleyway, he shouts: "YOU, YOU LET HIM GET AWAY!" and to one of his soldiers: "Take this creature to the meeting point, I need to talk to them!" Then he chases along after the farmer's boy.
Another guy has taken up the pursuit. Jhasso is way ahead of the soldiers and getting closer as the boy starts to tire, and suddenly finds himself before a huge wall, cutting off his escape path. The boy turns, throws down the keys on the ground, then vanishes through one of the carpets, used to replace some of the doors in this poor neighbourhood. The soldiers are just a few feet away now.
The other soldiers stay behind to make sure the crowd disperses. A couple more rowdies are sent down on the planks with measured hilt hits. The commoners have seen enough for this afternoon. There is no getting through, so for now, they are heading home. The soldiers quickly gather and dust themselves off. Then they search the pockets of the passed out commoners and pocket any coin they find. Again, just a normal afternoon for the city police.
Nyx is escorted to the gate house at the Basilisk Gate.
Jhasso takes the keys from the ground, then address the soldiers: "This man believes these are your captain's keys. This man would like to ask to not pursue the boy any further."

Alysa is making sure that the situation is finally under control and giving orders to the Fists, the privates of the Flaming Fist. She nods at the young man that helped her to keep the commoners calm by using magic. "Well done, civilian. That is quite an entry. The Flaming Fist appreciates your help" As she was going to approach him, her attention turns to that curious creature brought to the gate.
Nature (do Alysa knows what is a fairy?): 19
"What a uncommon creature... I remember my dad telling me stories about Fairies at night. I cannot believe that they were real. My captain would like to talk with you, so I will ask you to stay here please."Alysa speaks with a strong voice but stays polite. Then, seeing that the captain is still busy with the little thief, she asks to Nyx: "What is your name? And, by Helm, what are you doing in Baldur's Gate?"
Nyx sees the angry humanoid leader point a finger at them, and then a rush of other minions surround them. They briefly consider flying away, but see the bows and crossbows slung along the backs of the trained soldiers. The sharp steel tips of the arrows and bolts would be crippling if not lethal. They realize it is better to cooperate, and possibly live another day.
Nyx is taken to the gate, in the blindingly bright sunlight where they are surrounded by ogling humanoids. The dominant female from before approaches them and speaks. Her voice is firm but not unkind. At first, Nyx thinks they will not understand her, but as she speaks directly, they realize that her language is a form of the common twilight speech. Her accent is very rough, and many of her words are different, but Nyx is able to understand her general meaning.
"Unglaublich, ich kann dich verstehen! Mein Name ist Nyx. Ich... I ... vere am I? I vas in the twilight sky at the intersection of the celestials, and now.. I am hier? Vas is this place? Is this place name... 'BaldurzGeit'?"
Nyx looks at the giant woman with a mixture of caution and hope.
Jhasso takes the keys from the ground, then address the soldiers: "This man believes these are your captain's keys. This man would like to ask to not pursue the boy any further."
Zodge steps up to the ashen man. "Thank you, for retrieving my keys. I should not have been so careless." He quickly looks around and realises that the boy probably vanished in the labyrinth these back alleys are. With a questioning frown he looks the hooded creature up and down. "Does this man have a name? You tried to approach me earlier, at the gate? Talk to me while we walk back! "
Alysa struggles first to make sense of what the creature is saying but understands the big ideas. What a strange accent, she thinks.
"hmm, yes, this is the famous Baldur's Gate" she says while opening her arms to shows the whole city. "Some good areas and some bad ones, still... a good city to live in.". As a soldier, Alysa is used to judge character in a blink of eye. To her, this one seems lost and frightened, not a danger to the city. "My Captain said he wanted a word with you, but I would be happy to see what I can do to help you after you have a chat with him."
"The captain can call this man Jhasso. For lack of a better name. This man received a call for service into the Fist and was interested, but the captain needs to elaborate."
Wondering how long he could use the butt end of his battleaxe on civilians before they would get the hint that this was not the time for bravery (or just plain old ignorant defiance), Hal pulled his weapon and felt a surge of magic rush through him. After a year, it was still intoxicating and just a little less worrisome that he might lose control.
After a few seconds, he realized that the ground was shaking and the familiar scent of magic had cut through the stench of sweat and dirt. Focusing on the young man who had also mentioned that he was recently drafted, Hal chuckled under his breath at the quick thinking to give a little scare to the crowd and avoid more violence.
Waiting for the captain to return, Hal put away his weapon and raised an eyebrow at the sight of a Fairy in Baldur’s Gate. His mother had told him stories about them when he was younger, but he had never seen one until now. Hearing the small creature trying to converse with the large guard, Hal stepped up near the two and looked more closely at the Fairy.
Remembering that this was a living creature and not an artifact to study, Hal smiled and spoke to her in Sylvan. “You’ve wandered quite far from the Few Wild my friend. I would love to learn more about your home and I know a place that smells better and serves mediocre Elven wine if you have time later on.”
Watching the Fairy hover in front of him, he remembered the guard…and his manners.
“Um, you’re welcome to join us for a drink as well. I just need to get my assignment and initial pay from the captain first of course.”

Chaos is spreading in this city. Before even more chaos erupts, Jhasso decides to follow the boy who stole the key from the captain.

She nods at the young man that helped her to keep the commoners calm by using magic. "Well done, civilian. That is quite an entry. The Flaming Fist appreciates your help"
As she was going to approach him, her attention turns to that curious creature brought to the gate.
Nature (do Alysa knows what is a fairy?): 19
"What a uncommon creature... I remember my dad telling me stories about Fairies at night. I cannot believe that they were real. My captain would like to talk with you, so I will ask you to stay here please." Alysa speaks with a strong voice but stays polite.

"Kanst du mir helfen?"
